Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 461 - 461: Harsh Words
Anastasia was startled when Caspian suddenly shouted at her. Not that she expected Caspian to treat her kindly after everything that transpired. Still, she hadn't expected him to speak that harshly either.
Despite the chill shiver that was running down her spine, she tried to suppress her fear and then answered softly, "I heard that you had returned. So, I came here to see you."
"Well, you saw me. Now go back to your chamber. I wish not to be disturbed," he snarled at her once again.
Caspian felt a prick in his heart when Anastasia guiltily looked down. He didn't mean to shout at her and make her feel bad. But because of the emotional turmoil that he was going through, the words came out that way.
He didn't apologize though. He simply faced the other way and waited for Anastasia to leave him alone.
As Caspian made it crystal clear that she was unwanted at the moment, Anastasia didn't want to stay in the room any longer and make him feel uncomfortable.
She was already glad that he didn't send her back to Orsenia. Thus, she slowly approached the door with the intention to go back to her own chamber.
Just as she was about to reach in front of Caspian, he took long strides and headed towards his bedchamber.
Anastasia's lips were downturned. She knew what she did was unforgivable. However, seeing Caspian maintaining a physical distance from her and making his anger obvious sure did hurt her.
She swallowed the lump in her throat and grabbed the cold door handle. But she suddenly recalled how she had forgotten the main reason why she came to see him.
Anastasia quickly turned her head to see the door of the bedchamber that was slowly closing. And she hurriedly asked, "I want to ask something before I go."
Though the door closed before she could ask the question, she did it anyway. "W-Where did you go during the day? I heard that you didn't let anyone follow you. W-Was it something urgent?"
Caspian was still standing before the closed door of his bedchamber. He not only heard Anastasia, he could also sense the underlying panic and fear in her voice.
He immediately understood her unspoken words.
'She must be thinking that I went around destroying everything in sight. Or is she thinking that I murdered her family?'
He felt somewhat angered that his wife had such a bad impression of him. But then again, he couldn't blame her for fearing him since he had done things to make her feel that way.
He clenched his fists in anger and frustration and kept on standing right where he was.
At first, he was thinking of simply ignoring Anastasia's question and pretending that he never heard her in the first place. But he didn't hear her leave. And the more he waited for her to leave, the more discomfort he felt in his chest.
In the end, he finally relented.
"I went to pay a visit to the Royal Grave," he grumbled in a voice that was loud enough for Anastasia to hear.
"Oh!"
He heard Anastasia heaving a deep sigh. It was as if she indeed feared the worst… as if she was indeed thinking that he went to hurt those who were dear to her.
And he couldn't help but shout at her once again, "If that was all that you wanted to know then kindly get out of my chamber before I have you chased out by my guards."
He immediately regretted his words the moment they left his mouth. He closed his eyes and ended up knocking on the door with his forehead.
Anastasia jumped in fear when she heard the loud banging noise. She even feared that Caspian would start to throw everything around if she didn't leave soon.
Thus, she quickly pulled the huge door with all her might and quickly stepped out.
Her guards followed her as she hurried back to her own chamber.
Caspian, on the other hand, flung himself on the bed. He then grabbed a pillow, buried his face in it, and let out a muffled scream of frustration.
After a while, he slapped his cheeks and scolded himself, 'Did you have to be so mean to her?'
But then again, he defended himself. 'Well, she deserves that much. What I am doing to her is far too insignificant as compared to what she did to me.'
He narrowed his eyes with resolve and then thought to himself, 'I don't want to go through another century full of trauma and grief. Yes. It's better for me to slowly distance myself from her. I need to un-love her if I want to escape from that pain that will inevitably come with her de–'
Caspian pressed his lips into a thin line and stopped himself from thinking the forbidden word – death.
His servants didn't dare to come inside to attend to him without his order.
Thus, Caspian kept on lying motionless on his bed with his dirty clothes and shoes on. His mind was continuously taking him down the rabbit hole of his negative thoughts once again.
After about an hour or so, Caspian finally shouted, "Percy, ask Zenon to come here."
He had forgotten that it was still night and he had also forgotten that he had labelled Zenon as a traitor.
Before he could remember all that, Zenon was already standing before Caspian. Since chaos was ensuing in the castle, he didn't go home at all.
"You asked for me, Your Majesty?" Zenon's eyes were full of fear as he assumed that the King had finally decided to announce his punishment.
However, unlike what he had expected, Caspian gave a task to him.
"Zenon, have someone make copies of the Queen's symptoms and medicines she has already tried. Hand those copies to some of our men and ask them to find doctors who can come up with the cure. Provide them with enough gold so that they can travel as far as they can. But ask them to make haste. I need the cure within a month."
