Conquering His Cold Heart
Chapter 459 - 459: A Helping Hand

Caspian was not in the mood to entertain Hamilton's annoying behavior right now. And he definitely did not want Hamilton to be the victim of his fury when his cousin was not the one who had broken his trust.

Thus, he simply pushed Hamilton's foot away and grumbled, "If you keep on pestering me, you will be the one to die. So, get lost."

However, Hamilton was not the one to cower in fear. He was used to being treated harshly by his cousin.

"Okay. Let me help you measure how much space I will take then," he replied in a nonchalant manner and lay flat on the other side of Percival's tombstone. "Ah! I guess I am not as tall as I thought. Do you want to mark the ground, cousin?"

Caspian couldn't help but roll his eyes and sigh loudly.

He didn't appreciate Hamilton invading his private space and blabbering nonstop. He didn't want to keep on arguing and threatening Hamilton either. He knew Hamilton wouldn't get scared by his threats.

Thus, he decided to get up and go to another place.

But before he could fully stand on his feet, he heard Hamilton asking a question in a serious manner.

"How long are you going to avoid my cousin-in-law?"

Caspian immediately frowned and asked while clenching his jaw, "What do you know?"

Hamilton took a deep breath in and answered while staring at the floating dark clouds, "Everything. Vincent came to see me in the evening. He said they couldn't find you anywhere. He was really worried about you."

Caspian mockingly sneered when he heard that Vincent had gone to Hamilton. He lay back down on his back and then ridiculed Hamilton as well. "How nice of you to make friends with a traitor. Did you come here to gloat about how that traitor came begging to you?"

Hamilton shot a glare at Caspian's dark figure.

And he asked rather angrily, "Do you even know how to listen to people? You simply make assumptions on your own and blame others for your pain when you are the one inflicting that pain upon yourself."

"What's there to listen to?" Caspian glared back at Hamilton and shouted, "I already know that everyone knew about everything except me. They all are traitors. And you…"

His blood-red eyes shone with rage when he suspected Hamilton as well. "When did you get to know about 'everything'? Was it Vincent who told you today or were you always in the loop? Did Anna confide in you when she went to your mansion the last time?"

For a split second, Hamilton felt like jumping on Caspian and beating some sense into his thick skull.

However, he suppressed his anger towards his bull-headed cousin and tried to talk calmly, "I got to know about everything today. Vincent was the one who told me."

Before Caspian could twist his words and start blaming and mocking him again, Hamilton shed light on a few other things on behalf of his new friend, Vincent.

"And I think I should also clarify that Vincent only found out about your wife's condition yesterday. He said he overheard some things, and he demanded to know more. After knowing–"

"Wait…" Caspian couldn't quite believe his ears. Thus, he asked, "Did you just say Vincent only found it out yesterday?"

"Yes!" Hamilton exclaimed. "After knowing everything, he asked your wife to come clean to you as well. And I guess, he was the reason why your wife felt encouraged to share everything with you, despite already fearing that you would react exactly like this – like a mad, blood-thirsty vampire."

A sudden wave of guilt washed over Caspian's heart.

He had been hating on Vincent for the whole day for being a dishonest friend and siding with Anastasia when in reality, that was not the case at all.

'Anna told me everything because Vincent encouraged her to do so?'

Caspian felt really uncomfortable. But still, he tried to maintain his proud image by casually trying to brush off the mistake on his part. "Then he should have said so in the first place. Why didn't he say anything?"

Hamilton turned to his side, rested his head on his palm, and then reprimanded Caspian while glaring at him, "Did you let him talk? I heard that you just blasted him and Zenon out of your room and began destroying everything in sight."

He picked a small pebble from the ground and shot it on Caspian's forehead while still scolding him, "Maybe if you had some patience to actually hear others out, then you wouldn't need to come to this graveyard and talk to air."

"I was talking to Percival!" Caspian exclaimed and frowned like a timid child who was afraid of letting go of his imaginary friends.

Hamilton immediately felt a little bad for being brutally rude to Caspian.

But he wasn't going to apologize since somebody needed to talk some sense to the proud man. So, he continued to do so.

"Now get up and go home, cousin. Your wife might be waiting for you. Go and talk to her."

Caspian's heart ached again when Hamilton reminded him of his wife. He was not ready to talk to her yet.

He swallowed his tears and showed his reluctance, "What am I going to say to her? Sorry that you are dying? Let me put you out of your misery?"

Hamilton immediately threw a handful of grass on Caspian's face and shouted, "Do you even know what you are saying? Stop! Just… stop sounding like a hateful bastard! Put your ego aside and go talk to her. Don't make her any more pathetic than she already is."

"Are you asking me to forget everything that she did to me and forgive her this easily?" Caspian scoffed.

Hamilton lay back down on his back and asked while gazing back at the clouds, "Haven't you already forgotten and forgiven?"

"No. Never."

Caspian's mind and heart were in a state of turmoil. He himself didn't know how he was feeling or what he should be doing.

He just wanted to escape from everything and go to some faraway place, away from everything and everyone.

He wanted to forget everything that had happened since Anastasia came into his life.

He didn't want to go through a century-long grief or longer… just like when his brother disappeared from his life one day, leaving him to face the cruel world all alone.

He couldn't accept that Anastasia was going to do the same to him – leave him alone.

"Nobody has the right to play with my heart and live peacefully." Caspian began speaking in a rather determined manner, "I have decided. I am going to push her out of my life as easily as I let her enter it. I am going to show her that I can live without her. She only saw my love until now, and now she is going to see my hate as well. She has to pay for what she did before she dies."

Hamilton could tell that Caspian was spiraling into the rabbit hole of negativity and hatred.

"Rather than giving up like this and trying to punish your weak wife, why don't you try to do something for her?" he asked.

"I'm done doing things for her," Caspian replied as soon as Hamilton finished speaking.

Hamilton couldn't help but face-palm himself.

He breathed out in a condescending manner and suggested to his cousin, completely avoiding his hateful speech, "You might be able to find new doctors who might be able to cure her. There may be some new scientific discoveries, or new technologies available. Look into them. I will also help you in any way I can. If there's nothing you can do, at least stay by her side."

"I don't want to stay by her side!" Caspian suddenly burst out in rage. "Why is everyone taking her side when she is the one who hurt me? Why should I be the one to bend my knees when she is the one who wronged me?"

Hamilton clenched his jaw and answered without hesitation, "Because she doesn't have much time! It's as simple as that!"

Caspian felt a stinging sensation in his chest, his whole body slowly began feeling numb as though his soul was slowly leaving his body.

Hamilton shook his head when his cousin went silent. Caspian was too easy to predict.

'Why pretend to be angry and avoid her when you can't stand the thought of parting from her?' Hamilton thought.

His eyes turned dim when he spoke in a solemn tone, "Believe me, Caspian, you don't want to regret it in the future."

His pupils dilated as if he was speaking from his experience, "Don't do anything stupid like pushing her away or deliberately hurting her. Can you imagine realizing your mistake when it's already too late? Your heart will ache a thousand times worse when you look back and realize that you can do nothing to change the past."

Hamilton quickly got up on his feet and went to stand beside Caspian. He offered his hand to his cousin and asked politely, "Get up. I will take you home."
