Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 458 - 458: Gloomy Sky
As Anastasia crossed through the gallery, she took notice of how there were only a couple of Caspian's servants who were diligently standing there.
It was almost midnight after all. Most of the others had already left to their own rooms or their homes.
Secretly, Anastasia was thankful that there wasn't a crowd that was waiting to chastise her with their hateful glares.
Upon reaching the door of the King's chamber, she was greeted by a familiar voice.
"Greetings, Your Majesty."
Percy took a couple of steps forward and then informed the Queen immediately, "His Majesty isn't in his chamber currently. I will send someone to contact you the moment he returns."
Since he had no idea how many more hours or days the King would take to come back, he didn't want the Queen to loiter around the King's chamber in vain, especially after knowing that the Queen's health wasn't that great.
Anastasia's heart was constantly aching. Percy's words didn't provide any solace to her broken heart.
She restlessly looked at Percy's seemingly calm face and asked nervously, "Do you know where he went? Did he say anything to you before leaving?"
Percy shook his head and denied it. "I just heard him flinging the window open. When I went inside to check, the King was already in the air. His guards tried to follow him, but they all returned one by one. Nobody knows where he went."
Anastasia looked down at the floor and clenched her gown very tightly. Not knowing his whereabouts and his intention was slowly eating her up from the inside.
"Do you at least know the direction that he went in?" she asked yet again, her eyes brimming with tears. She was terrified thinking that Caspian had indeed gone to Orsenia to exact his revenge.
Percy obviously couldn't tell what the Queen was thinking. Thus, he honestly answered, "According to the guards, His Majesty was heading towards the South."
The South was where Orsenia was.
Cold sweat ran down her spine. Her face immediately turned pale. And for a second, Anastasia also felt her heart stopping to beat. She instantly patted her chest with her fist and coughed loudly.
"A-Are you okay, Your Majesty?" Percy panicked seeing the Queen in that state.
John and Isaac were also afraid. They feared that the Queen would suddenly collapse before them.
So, John immediately asked Anastasia, "My Queen, shall we return? I don't think you should be walking around like this."
Anastasia, however, wiped her tears and shook her head. "Let me stay in the King's chamber. I will wait in there," she asked Percy in a sore voice.
Percy lowered his head in an embarrassed manner and quickly replied, "The chamber is a mess right now. None of us dared to clean it up without the King's permission."
Anastasia ordered without missing a beat, "Then have someone clean it up. I will wait in one corner."
Without waiting for Percy to speak up, she looked over her shoulder and ordered her guard, "John, open the door for me, will you?"
Although he was hesitant, John followed the Queen's order.
Anastasia's heart immediately tightened when she saw the state of the room. There was not a single item that was unbroken – from glasses to furniture. Everything was scattered all over the floor leaving not a single space left for Anastasia to set her foot in.
She heaved a deep sigh and then ordered Percy, "Have someone clean everything up. And also replace all the broken furniture. Do it quickly so that the King doesn't have to see the mess."
As there was no way she could stay in the chamber without interrupting the cleaning process, Anastasia decided to go back to her own chamber for now.
While slowly heading back to her chamber, all she could do was pray to the God who had never listened to her, not even once. She prayed in her heart that Caspian wouldn't do anything to hurt her family back in Orsenia, or anyone else, including himself.
---
The sky was devoid of any light. Not a single star was visible, let alone the moon. Dark clouds had engulfed the already gloomy winter sky as if it was trying to give birth to a dangerous storm.
Under that gloomy sky blanketed by dark clouds, a devastated man was lying down in the middle of a graveyard.
The tomb beside him looked very grand. The name that was engraved on the tombstone read 'King Percival Heradi – the Brave'.
Caspian had been lying down beside the tomb for quite a few hours now.
Sometimes he would talk with his brother's grave – share what was happening in his life, reprimand Percival for leaving too early; sometimes he would scream in frustration; and the other times he would stare at the dark sky while quietly shedding his tears.
He had never been this heartbroken before, not even when his brother was declared dead.
The sorrow of being deceived by the people he trusted the most, coupled with the imminent death of his dear wife was too much for him to bear.
"Percival?" Caspian suddenly turned to look at the tombstone and asked in a dejected tone, "Since you are already dead, can I ask you something?"
He paused for a moment and asked again, "Is there a thing called soul? Is reincarnation real? It's been so many years since you..." He heaved a deep breath and completed his sentence in a whisper, "Have you taken birth again? Is it possible for us to meet again?"
Caspian sounded as though he had already surrendered to the fate just like how Anastasia had asked him to. And it appeared as though he was looking for alternative answers, other ways for him to reunite with his wife after the irreversible fate took the action.
Suddenly, Caspian's thoughts were interrupted by a sharp voice that he wished he didn't have to hear right now.
"Sweet heavens, cousin!"
A tall figure loomed over Caspian's face.
Hamilton narrowed his keen eyes and asked while poking Caspian's waist with the tip of his shoes, "Hey! Are you pretending to be dead or did you actually die?"
