Conquering His Cold Heart
Chapter 457 - 457: Disoriented

"Mmmm…"

A soft moan resonated in Anastasia's bedchamber.

The drowsy sound of the Queen was not audible enough to immediately grab the attention of Martha and Holly who were currently in the room next door.

"Hmm…" Anastasia let out another groan and yawned while stretching her sore arms.

She lazily scrunched her nose and brows as she slowly opened her heavy eyelids. She felt a bit confused when her eyes met with absolute darkness.

'Wait, why is it so dark?'

A sudden fear crept into her heart, prompting her heartbeat to go faster in an instant.

Her mind was still disoriented, maybe because of the deep sleep that she was just in. And she was afraid thinking that while she was sleeping she was carried somewhere else.

She blinked several times to adjust her eyesight to the dark and patted around the bed to make sense of where she was at the moment.

She abruptly sat up on the bed and looked around in a panicked state.

Everything around her was dark, except for a very dim candlelight from the antechamber that entered her bedroom through the open door.

'Ah!' She let out a huge sigh of relief when she finally realized that she was in her own room.

She gulped hard to moisten her dry throat and pushed back her baby hairs that were now soaked in a cold sweat.

After taking a moment to calm herself down, she looked at the window again and wondered, 'How come it's dark outside? Just how long did I sleep for?'

Her head began to ache badly when she tried to make sense of the time. Thus, she gave up trying to figure out her questions on her own and cleared her throat to call her maids.

"Martha? Are you there?" she asked while looking at the open door.

Soon, she heard some noises coming from the other room followed by the light footsteps.

Martha appeared before Anastasia in no time. Her appearance looked haggard as though she hadn't slept or taken a bath for a week straight.

She bowed to the Queen and asked with a gentle smile on her face, "Greetings, Your Majesty. I hope you had a good sleep. How are you feeling at the moment?"

Anastasia couldn't recall any of her dreams. So, she thought that she must have had a good sleep despite going through the most difficult time in her life.

Thus, she nodded her head and replied, "I slept well. Thank you for your worries." She then paused for a moment to look at the window and asked after looking back at Martha, "How long was I asleep for exactly? It was still early in the morning when I went to sleep, was it not?"

Martha slightly bowed and then replied, "Yes, you went to sleep in the morning. Right now, it is almost midnight."

"I was asleep for the whole day?" Anastasia couldn't help but exclaim.

Martha let out an awkward laugh and then said in a polite manner, "To say it precisely, you were asleep for the last seventeen hours. You had us really worried. But we didn't dare to disturb your sleep since you clearly instructed us to not wake you up and let you get up on your own."

Anastasia rested her head on the headrest of the bed and sighed. She couldn't believe that she could sleep for such long hours when her world was in turmoil.

'But I guess that was a good thing,' she thought to herself as a whole day and half the night passed by without much trouble.

However, her relief didn't last long as her husband's state began to bother her. 'I wonder how he is doing.'

She looked at Martha again.

Martha was already running about the room, doing her small tasks now that the Queen was awake.

Anastasia felt pity towards her old maid. She was making the latter's life more difficult than it needed to be.

She guiltily pursed her lips before asking Martha, "Is there any news from the King? Did he perhaps… come to see me while I was asleep?"

Martha suddenly stopped rummaging in the wardrobe and turned stiff when she heard the Queen asking about the King.

"W-What's wrong?" Anastasia stuttered when her maid's demeanor changed noticeably.

Martha gulped and turned around to face the Queen.

But instead of maintaining eye contact with the Queen, she lowered her gaze and said, "I heard from Mr. Percy that His Majesty flew out of his window in the afternoon. The King's Guards tried to go after him. But I heard that they all lost him after some point."

Anastasia felt as if a sharp sword had been plunged deep into her heart. She had not expected Caspian to take off like that.

'What if he went to Orsenia?'

She trembled at the thought of a mountain of dead bodies in the beautiful garden of her old home. She could see her father, mother, and her brother lying lifeless on top of that heap of bodies. And she could also see Caspian standing on top of her parents with a cold expression on his face, blood dripping down his fangs and claws.

Anastasia suddenly clasped her mouth and gagged. She couldn't stop those horrifying images from evading her conscious mind.

"My Queen? Are you alright?" Martha ran towards the table to grab the cold glass of water for the Queen.

"I'm alright." Anastasia lied.

She wiped the sweat beads that were once again forming along her hairline and asked in a restless manner, "Caspian isn't back yet?"

Martha simply shook her head in response and gave the water to the Queen.

Anastasia took a sip of the mouth-numbing water and gave it back to Martha. "Did nobody tell you where he could have gone?" she threw her blanket aside and asked while getting down from her bed.

Martha rushed to support the Queen when the latter almost stumbled because her toe got stuck in the long lace of her nightgown.

Once Anastasia was stable on her feet, Martha replied in a rather uncomfortable tone, "I didn't dare to ask any further questions. Everyone was already looking at me like I was the one who angered the King."

Anastasia wasn't surprised to hear that. "They all must already know about my betrayal to the King. No wonder they are being hostile even to you."

Martha didn't know what betrayal the Queen was talking about. However, she didn't dare to ask for clarification. The less she knew about the affairs of the castle the better it was for her weak heart.

Anastasia put on her slippers and went to grab the woolen hood that Martha had placed on the chair near the wardrobe. Then she strode out of her chamber while putting the hood on.

She wanted to go out and gather information on her husband's whereabouts. She was worried that Caspian would massacre her entire bloodline in a fit of his rage. And she was also worried that Caspian might do something stupid to himself.

She didn't want to let either of that happen.

As soon as Anastasia opened the door, she was greeted by her loyal guards. She immediately asked them, "Do you happen to know where the King is at the moment?"

When both denied knowing the King's whereabouts, Anastasia strode down the hallway and headed towards the King's chamber while being closely followed by her guards.
