Chapter 26: Lavender Academy [6]

....

"Finally done."

Arthur mumbled as he arranged the papers.

His final class for the day, the Magic Engineering class for those in the Magic Department, had ended a few minutes ago.

Magic Engineering.

A beautiful, frustrating class.

He had spent the last class drawing complex circuits on the board, dissecting theoretical frameworks while doing his best to make sure they all understood.

The worst part about it was that it wasn’t only him that seemed to regret registering in this class.

Some of the students seemed to feel the same way about it too.

For that, he did his best to make the subject as engaging as possible.

Only about half of the students from his first class had registered for this course, because of that he only had fifteen students in this class.

Though it didn’t feel like it reduced the workload in the slightest, he had spent about ten minutes arguing with one of the students on why mana loops couldn’t be recursive unless they were grounded.

He had given them a little test on it, and collected the scripts when the period was over. All that was left for today would be to review them and check the files that had been sent to him.

Thankfully, he was done for today, his last class had ended at 2pm on the dot.

And it was currently ten minutes past two.

Now, the only thing left was to get the reward from completing the sub act.

"Accept rewards."

Arthur said out loud.

Even after accepting them he couldn’t feel any change in him.

His stats had changed ever so slightly.

The last time he had checked he was down at 70%, but after receiving the two rewards from the system it had gone up by 1%.

From what he had seen, with the woman ranked at 30%, Celestine ranked at 8%, Rex ranked at 50%, and he himself ranked at 71% it made sense.

8% was high school graduate level.

30% was good, someone with that could qualify as a professor.

50% had to be stronger than that, something he had considered due to the woman he said had trained him.

And he himself, ranked among the strongest in the empire was at 70%.

The concept gradually began to make more sense to him.

Before it had been a mystery to him, but now, it all made sense.

Unlike the ranks of mages where their rank was determined by how many spells of a rank they could cast, this one was more complex yet simple at the same.

It was strange, meaning that even now he hadn’t grasped it. But he had a good understanding of it.

It would only be a while before he completely understood it.

"Anyway...."

He murmured.

Then, he vanished again.

Arthur reappeared inside his office.

He had just used one of his forbidden magic twice today.

The ’Ugoku Raijin’.

Normally, forbidden magic would require a large amount of mana for single use, and most were ranked at grandmaster and above, and if not done properly could result in the loss of body parts or even the mana core itself!

His, however, didn’t require as much mana as normal forbidden spells.

But, if he couldn’t cast his spells, specifically the ’Ugoku Raijin’ properly, he would die an immediate death.

Though nobody would believe that due to the number of times the ’Golden Blur’ used that on the battlefield.

"Since I’m done with it, I suppose I better call him."

There were communication devices in this world, though they were expensive as they allowed the user to speak with someone else over long or short distances.

’Now that I think about it, it’s almost like a crude telephone.’

He thought as he picked it up.

He didn’t carry them around with him, but there was one positioned in every office.

It actually was, its only use was for both callers to talk to each other. They couldn’t even see one another while talking.

—Arthur?

The call went through after some seconds and the man on the other side quickly asked.

The man’s tone was serious.

"Yes, it’s been a while."

— Or should I say, Professor Arthur?

After confirming who it was, he went back to his normal demeanor.

— And what do you mean by it’s been a while, its almost been a month.

"I was busy with preparing the test for the first years."

— I thought that you had forgotten about the date?

"Huh?"

— Never mind.

He quickly realized the implication of his words.

"That sounds gay."

— I said never mind.

"And it wasn’t a date, I only invited you to dinner because you looked hungry.

— I said never mind!

"Sure."

Using the opportunity, Rex quickly changed the topic.

— Did you receive the files?

’He brought the topic up before I even needed to.’

"Who was it that sent them?"

— My assistant professor.

"I see. By the way I got the files."

— Okay, send them over once you’ve gone through them.

"Alright."

— Thank you

"It’s fine as long as you don’t say anything gay."

— Fuc—

Arthur disconnected the call before he could finish his curse.

"So he has an assistant professor."

There was a part of him that wanted one, with one the workload he had would reduce.

But, one would just be a hindrance. He only knew two of the staff that didn’t hate him even though they knew his crimes.

And it was probably because of said crimes that one hadn’t been assigned to him.

"I might have to ask him about her later."

He murmured.

But for now, he had some work to do.

And he wouldn’t be leaving here anytime soon.
