Chapter 25: Lavender Academy [5]

....

Roselyn made her way through the cafeteria before quietly settling down on one of the seats, dropping her tray on the table.

"The princess is finally here."

"No, it’s the second one."

"But, a princess is still a princess, right? And she’s pretty hot."

"I know right."

As soon as she had entered, crude remarks about her circulated. Remarks that she did her best to ignore, instead choosing to focus on her food.

However, she soon looked up as she heard someone approaching.

A young man with blonde hair, someone she didn’t recognize from her class, was approaching her.

A second year.

"Can I sit here?"

He asked.

"Someone is sitting here."

The young man was quickly rejected.

"Ah, I see."

With that he quickly went away.

And the people who talked about her from afar, their voices subconsciously grew louder.

’Where is she?’

Her only friend was late, forcing her to eat alone.

It was either she had forgotten or she still had some things to do.

"Haah.... Just damn it."

Someone else was approaching her, likely coming to sit next to her.

"Excuse me, but this seat is taken."

She said without looking up.

Surprisingly, he ignored her words and sat down on the chair adjacent to her.

"Didn’t you hear what I said?"

Roselyn raised her head up as she spoke.

Then, she blushed slightly.

"I’m sorry, did you say something?"

The boy asked.

She quickly regained herself and shook her head.

"This seat is already taken."

"By who?"

"It’s someone I know."

"Then, that someone should find another chair."

Ezra replied nonchalantly while eating.

"But...."

"As far as I can see, your friend isn’t one that bought the seat, the seat was put in this exact place by the last person that ate here, so it’s public use and free for everyone to use."

"Is that so?"

She would have argued more but it would only waste time and effort, he didn’t seem like he would move from the seat easily.

And he was one of the few people who she could engage in conversation without them sucking up to her.

Her thought process naturally drifted towards where she had seen him before.

"You’re that boy, right?"

"Huh?"

"You’re that boy that went for both the assassin department and the other magic department, and also the one that had blood everywhere during the test."

"That’s only because this place has no sorcerer department, because of that I’m taking both of that man’s classes."

He chose to only answer the first part.

"You’ve already taken them?"

She asked.

"The first class was in the morning, for the mage, while the other one was my second. The only good thing about it is that I’m actually free for the rest of the day, I’ve only got those other activities to do."

"The clubs?"

"There’s also the dueling practices, club stuff, and electives. But honestly, I think I’ll avoid them."

"How come?"

"Maybe because I’ll be too busy trying to cram as much knowledge on every basic-ranked spell and beginner-ranked spell, and also try to train on my weapon handling.... You’re only attending one of his classes, and even then it’s one of the more tamer ones so you wouldn’t know."

He said, eating the last bites of his food.

Silence followed after.

Roselyn was halfway through while Ezra was already done, taking down a glass of water.

"Anyway, I’d better leave or your friend might not have anywhere to sit."

He picked up his tray and attempted to stand up.

"Your name?"

She asked.

"Oh, it’s Ezra. Ezra Ashford."

"What?"

Roselyn asked, slightly surprised.

"I said Ezra Ashford."

"But, the professor addressed you as Ashborn."

"He did that in both classes, but it would seem rude to correct him so I left it like that."

"Ah, I see."

"I’m-"

"Roselyn Aurelion, second princess of the empire."

Ezra cut her off.

"Even though I didn’t know how you looked like, the way everyone was speaking about you when I entered and the way they’re staring at us now, it wasn’t too hard to realize."

He stood up, carrying his tray with him.

"It was nice talking to you, princess."

With those words he stood up and left.

A smile played at her lips as she watched him walk away.

This time, however, she ignored the other students in the cafeteria.

He too, seemed oblivious to their angry gazes

It was more like he didn’t care.

There was an easy grace in which he carried himself, like his walk had been practiced.

But, even as a pretty boy he didn’t seem to be nobility, his shoes were polished, though they seemed to have gotten their fair share of walking through rough terrain.

He didn’t seem like nobility, but that was the strange part.

Normally, commoners would shrink in her presence, but Ezra hadn’t done that.

He treated her like they were equals.

"Maybe he could...."

He words got stuck in her mouth as she watched him coming back.

"Sorry, I just forgot something."

He explained.

She watched him.

He reached for the air.... and like he was grasping for invisible threads, he curled his fists into a ball and yanked them.

To Roselyn it looked like he was trying to grab something, but she couldn’t see.

’Mana?’

She wondered.

She quickly dispelled that thought from her head.

Human beings couldn’t grab mana, not when it was in its purest form. It was only after it was converted to fire, water, or any of the other basic elements could it be felt or held.

"Damn it."

He suddenly cursed.

"What happened?"

"It’s nothing, I was just trying to do a pose I saw just now. I just didn’t get it right just now."

He quickly explained before leaving again.

’Pose?’

Who would use such a pose in the middle of the cafeteria, and then who would be dumb enough to try to imitate the guy that did it?

"Strange...."

That was all Roselyn could deduce.
