Chapter 24: Lavender Academy [4]

Chapter 24: Lavender Academy [4]

....

"Good morning, everyone."

He was currently addressing another group of students.

"I’ll be the one taking you all in the assassin department, I’m Arthur Vaelthorne."

And using the very same introduction that he used before.

"Let’s all get along."

He offered the students a friendly smile.

Arthur quickly took the piece of chalk on the desk and wrote something on the chalkboard.

When he was done he dropped it back on the desk.

"Can anyone tell me what defines the assassin class?"

He questioned.

At his question, several hands shot up.

"You."

He picked Ezra from the student’s that had raised their hands.

"Its agility, sir."

He answered.

"Yes, you are correct."

"There are many classes. While the warrior class is defined by strength, the assassin class is defined by agility.

Both have their strengths, and also have their weaknesses as well. For example, assassins might be quick but they lack strength."

He took a deep breath in before continuing.

"For example, trying to increase your strength as an assassin is impossible, no matter how hard you try to increase your strength it will always fall in comparison to your speed even if you little to no effort in increasing it."

His eyes scanned the room slowly, observing the students in the room. All the eyes in the room were on him too.

Arthur took the chalk back and wrote something on the board.

"You."

He pointed at a boy in the back seat with his finger.

"Tell me an assassin’s greatest weakness."

The boy, visibly startled, stood up hastily, nearly knocking over his chair.

"Sir?"

He asked.

He didn’t even know what the question was, he was among those that had not been paying attention.

"Tell me the assassin’s greatest weakness."

For a moment he remained silent.

"It’s armor, sir."

He finally answered.

"Why do you say that?"

Arthur couldn’t help but raise his eyebrow at the question.

"Because as you said, strength falls in comparison to speed, so it’s not possible for someone with the assassin class to carry heavy weapons in a fight, so they can’t break through armor."

"Alright, sit down."

’He acted like he wasn’t paying attention or maybe he wasn’t and only listened to that part?’

Then, he said.

"What he just said isn’t wrong, rather it’s incomplete. An assassin’s greatest weakness is defense, armor being a branch of defense."

He proceeded to explain what he meant.

"The assassin class being a hit-and-run class won’t fare well in a drawn out confrontation with someone whom has high defense."

Arthur continued his lecture, occasionally calling a student and asking them a question.

Surprisingly, the class continued on without any problem.

"Starting from the next class, we’ll enter the more physical aspects of an assassin."

The class had ended.

Slowly, the students piled out of the classroom.

As Roselyn passed by, she stared at him for a brief moment before leaving.

"Do you need something?"

Arthur asked the last person in the room.

"Actually sir, I have a question to ask you."

Ezra walked towards the desk.

"Yes?"

"When I was leaving the other class you told me to prepare for this one."

"Yes, I had assumed the last class would be as bad as this one so I thought to prepare you in advance. Fortunately there was no issue."

"...."

"Is there anything else you want from me?"

He asked.

"No, sir, thank you for your time."

Saying those words, Ezra turned and left with a complicated expression on his face.

Who could blame him?

The boy had used all the free time to practice his weapon handling, hoping that even a slight improvement would help him in whatever the professor had planned.

After Ezra had gone and the class was empty, Arthur let out his second sigh of the day.

"Just one more."

He said to encourage himself before resting his head on the table.

"I just have to do one more."

He tried to encourage himself.

But even he found it unbelievable.

Magic Engineering.

He didn’t know anything about it, he had fought in the war for more than half a decade, he didn’t know anything about it.

Last week he had devoted some of his time to learning about it, so he was able to grasp the basics of it.

But then again, teaching was mentally draining.

It was his first day and he already felt drained.

"I can’t imagine doing this for four more years."

He would have to, but it was all too frightening to him.

Just trying to deliver his lectures the best he could was taxing, the worst part was that he knew they weren’t close to being perfection. But, he was okay with it considering it was his first time.

And, there was also another reason he was trying so hard....

It was practically telling him to do his best for rewards, an act that he was given.

Unlike Hidden Acts, Sub Acts could be rejected due to the fact that he was given the chance to accept or reject them.

When he had seen this, he had accepted it after making checking the rewards.

But now, he was starting to regret it.

"Giving up now would be a waste of my effort."

He mumbled to himself, running a hand through his head before getting up.

It was currently lunch-time, considering that he had sometime before his next class, it would be best if he prepared for his next class.

Arthur stood up from the desk, carrying his papers back to the office.

Since he had little knowledge on what he was about to teach, it would be for the best.

As he walked, he had a thought.

"Is this how the mage students felt when I gave them the tests?"

He wondered.

They had no knowledge whatsoever of the last few questions he had given them.

"Nah," somehow the answer came naturally and quickly. "Mine is much worse."

After all, he would have to do this for an entire term.

Maybe even more.
