Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer
Chapter 164: Unexpected Helpers (1)

Chapter 164: Unexpected Helpers (1)

Even then, the Ravens knew they had the number advantage. While some of them would have to make a sacrifice, the others could help Jake.

However, as soon as they stepped forward, Fenris let out a howl.

[The Familiar, Fenris, has used Wolf’s Call (Lvl 2)]

The guards were puzzled and didn’t see it, but Fenris’s shadow split into three. Two smaller but ferocious wolves emerged from two split shadows, joining Fenris.

The Ravens still had the numerical advantage but lacked the guts to face the Wolves. Fenris alone was strong enough to deal with them, but now that two more had appeared, the Ravens were thinking of ways to deal with them.

However, Fenris wasn’t about to hesitate and lunged at the enemies along with her shadow wolves.

Jake’s most loyal underling, Nik La, charged at Fenris, wielding a massive axe. Unlike the rest, he knew if they hesitated anymore, they’d be dead before the reinforcements from the Church arrived.

"Urgh!" Nik groaned as Fenris’s claw connected with his axe.

Nik, having a tank-warrior hybrid class, was used to taking on stronger opponents. However, it had been a while since countering a beast’s attack made his hands numb.

But that wasn’t all. The next moment, he was struck by Fenris’s tail and sent flying into the others from his group.

Meanwhile, Adrian was enjoying his scuffle with Jake as the latter tried to overwhelm the Chimaera with agility. To an extent, it was working.

Jake had stabbed Adrian countless times. While all attacks resulted in superficial wounds, Jake was hopeful his poison would soon begin taking effect on Adrian.

However, as seconds turned into minutes, Jake realised his attacks weren’t having the desired effect. Not only did the poison not work on Adrian, his wounds were also healing rapidly.

Frustrated, Jake went a step ahead and doubled his efforts while dodging Adrian’s attacks. Rushing for a kill only worked in Adrian’s favour, as his opponent kept drying his stamina reserves.

In just a few moments, Jake began to move more slowly, and that’s when Adrian attacked him with all his force. Jake lifted the Widow to shield himself, but the famed blade shattered upon impact.

Jake had managed to save himself, but how long could he last without a weapon against Adrian? The Raven looked at his opponent, expecting him to land the final blow, but it never came.

Adrian was just standing there. If he wanted, he could’ve easily killed Jake. But he didn’t because he wanted to conserve his strength for actual opponents, not a side character with no value to his life.

As Jake watched Adrian staying still, he thought the poison must have done its job. Feeling puzzled by the sudden development, he quickly reached for another blade from his inventory and was about to attack.

But Adrian surprised him by grabbing his neck and shoving him to the side.

Confused by the change, Jake barely had time to react before several arrows pierced his back. Blood gushed from his mouth as he looked into Adrian’s eyes, realising he had used him as a shield.

With what little strength Jake had in him, he turned around and smiled when he saw the reinforcements were there. Then, he turned towards Adrian and flipped him off before taking his final breath.

The reinforcements were undoubtedly there, and surprisingly, not only the paladins but also the elven army, led by Shu, were there. It seemed that instead of leaving Nexaria as planned, Shu decided to bring a small fraction of Alfvania’s army there.

Adrian was impressed. How could he not be? The elven royalty sent their army to deal with one man, an honour that even the Nether wasn’t given.

"You missed again!" Adrian smirked, looking in Vincent’s direction as he threw Jake’s corpse. "Taking Rowan’s balls wasn’t enough for you. Now you took a poor man’s life? What kind of hero are you?"

Rowan, standing next to Vincent and Shu, had his eyes turned red with anger upon mention of his injured manhood. While he had healed from the injury, the mental scars remained, and the Elven prince was enraged by his remarks.

Adrian was surprised to see the three royals standing together. He thought Rowan might be more thoughtful and not support someone like Vincent, who was involved in the mass murder of the heroes.

But it looked like the elves only cared about saving each other’s asses, even if it meant ignoring their crimes. Either way, Adrian was thankful that they decided to show them his true colours. Now, he won’t regret what was about to happen, not even a bit.

"Stand down, Adrian," Shu advised. "Your lust for revenge would get you killed once again. Alfvania would ignore your-"

"Alfvania would ignore my indiscretions?" Adrian taunted them, laughing his heart out before looking at Fenris, who ripped another guard to shreds. "Does it look like I give a rotten fuck about you or Alfvania? I’m here for war, not a debate competition."

"What did you say!?" Vincent yelled. He was about to jump at him when Shu stopped him.

"Is that your final decision?" he asked Adrian again.

"Are you deaf, retarded or both?" Adrian rolled his eyes. "I don’t have all day, so let’s get this over with."

"I never thought Nexaria’s greatest strategist would turn out to be a fool," Shu smirked, shaking his head. "You think you can take all of us down by yourself?"

He continued, "I saw what you did to Ahuli, but he was just one man—an injured one at that. I had hoped you would come to your senses, but I guess I was wrong."

"That’s what you think about me?" Adrian mumbled, acting hurt. "Didn’t your cousins tell you about me and our adventures together? They probably didn’t because they were ashamed of how many times my plans saved their sorry asses."

Shu raised an eyebrow. Unlike his imbecile siblings, he knew how to differentiate between confidence and someone’s ego. And at that moment, there was no ego in Adrian’s eyes.

’How can he be so confident standing alone against an army? Could he have reinforcements of his own?’ Shu thought and looked around, but there was nothing.

For a moment, the thought of a portal spell crossed his mind. But that wasn’t possible anymore, as Rowan had informed him that the Church had created an anti-magic area around its territory to prevent anyone from invading it like the Zodiacs had before.

There could be no sudden surprises there. But just then, an explosion was heard from beneath them, and the anti-magic barrier surrounding the Church was destroyed.

"What the hell was that?" Rowan yelled, but everyone was just as baffled as he was.

"Despite your flaws, you are right, Shu..." Adrian smiled, watching their confidence fade away. "I’m not foolish enough to take on an army alone."

Moments later, Adrian said the elves rushed towards him while the Paladins retreated to the Church. The elven army knew Adrian was up to something and wanted to take him down before he could do anything.

Unfortunately for them, it was already too late. As Shu expected, a portal opened behind Adrian, and three masked people walked out of it, scaring the elves with their presence alone.

"Thanks for your help, Fourteenth," Leo replied as Taurus and Aries took charge. "You can leave the rest to us."

"The name is Adrian, not Fourteenth," Adrian retorted.

"Of course," Leo replied with a charismatic smile. "Pisces has secured the target, as per the deal. You should leave to join them... Adrian."
