Chapter 165: Unexpected Helpers (2)

Chapter 165: Unexpected Helpers (2)

"I knew it!" Rowan exclaimed. "I knew that human bastard was one of them!"

Hearing such language from Rowan’s mouth irked Adrian. Before his death, Rowan had always treated him kindly. But it seemed all of it was a facade to take advantage of his [Analysis] skill.

Now that Adrian realised it, Shu and Vincent were similar to their brother in that aspect. While Vincent was a poor imitator, he still acted kindly to the strangers, only revealing his true side to his guildmates. But the team was aware of his two-faced nature.

As for Shu, he was all buddy-buddy with Adrian when they were attacking the Tulkas but changed tone immediately after he saved Vincent from Adrian’s rightful wrath.

Now that he thought about it, he wondered if Amelia was also like them. Adrian didn’t want to feel like she would betray him, but what Bellion said about the contractor being someone close to him had messed up his mind.

Regardless, Adrian knew he had done his part, as Seraphina had requested, when she hugged him back at the Inn. However, her request made him wonder about their relationship.

Why would the Saintess ask him to help the Zodiacs, their known enemy? Adrian asked her about it, but didn’t get an answer.

While Seraphina didn’t disclose the relationship between her and the Zodiac, between the show she put on and her shapeshifting abilities, Adrian figured it out on his own.

She had to be one of them. As surprising as it was, Adrian was going to judge her. Besides, the deal was mutually beneficial, so Adrian decided to go for it and asked Sophia to get rid of the anti-magic barrier, which she did by destroying the magic circle holding it up.

Once Leo gave him the cue to leave, Adrian jumped on Fenris’s back to go and join the girls, who were already making their way to the cellar under the Church’s bell tower. But he had something to say to the Zodiacs before departing.

"You see the guy with the bow," he said to Leo. "Try not to kill him. He’s my prey. I don’t care what you do with the rest."

"It would be difficult not to squash an insect while playing around," Leo replied with his characteristic smile. "But I’ll try my best."

Adrian nodded, giving the elves a final look before leaving.

"I like that kid... but not as much as Gemini," Aries murmured, staring at Adrian’s retreating back.

"Don’t forget the mission. You can take him to your dungeon later," Leo replied, taking out two daggers. "Besides, Fourteenth, I mean, Adrian isn’t officially a part of the group yet. So you’re not allowed to lay your hands on him."

"Tsk, you’re no fun." Aries pouted.

While the two argued, Shu’s mind was running on overdrive. With the anti-magic barrier gone, there was no stopping the Zodiacs.

As far as fighting them was concerned, it meant certain death, and neither of the elven princes was willing to face them.

"We need to get out of here," Shu mumbled so that only Vincent and Rowan could hear him.

"I’ll go get help!" Vincent yelled and ran back to the Church before anyone could protest.

Forget about helping them; all Vincent cared about was his own life. Shu and Rowan had similar thoughts, but Vincent jumped the gun and got away before anyone could stop him.

Despite being the coward he was, Vincent was planning to inform everyone about the appearance of three Zodiacs. After all, since he was abandoning the battlefield, he had to make up an excuse for doing so.

But before Vincent could get far, he stopped and noticed someone’s shadow flying over him.

A moment later, Taurus landed before him, creating a small crater where he landed. Had he taken a step further, the elf would have been squashed like a tomato.

"Where do you think you’re going?" Taurus snarled in his hoarse voice, swinging the morning star in his hand.

Vincent noticed the strange weapon. While it was a morning star, the weapon’s body had been replaced by a chain, giving it a range it usually wouldn’t have.

Taurus swung the morning star in Vincent’s direction. Vincent quickly brought out his blade to counter, but it was a foolish move. Although Vincnet managed to evade deadly damage, he was still flung back to his brothers.

Taurus’s attack was so strong that it shattered Vincent’s sword arm despite his blocking it. As such, he didn’t even want to imagine what would have happened had he not acted involuntarily to save his life.

"What the..."

Shu was shocked to see Vincent lying on his back with one attack. But what happened next left him utterly baffled. Taurus once again began swinging his weapon before throwing it in the air.

The weight of the morning star lifted the minotaur into the air, and he landed in front of them with a loud thud. Shu could only imagine the weight of the weapon that quickly lifted someone of Taurus’s stature.

"Still alive, huh?" Taurus mumbled before taking another swing.

However, a soldier jumped in between and took the hit, which was meant to end Vincent. The soldier spewed a mouthful of blood as his body was bent out of shape due to the sheer strength behind Taurus’s attack.

Several of his ribs broke from the impact as the poor man was sent flying a great distance across the ground. The bone fragments from his ribs had ruptured his lungs, making him gasp for air.

Fortunately for the soldier, the pain and struggle only lasted for a moment before he took his final breath. However, the soldier wasn’t any ordinary soldier but the general leading the elves.

"General Doz!" Shu exclaimed, but the elf was dead, and with him, so was the elves’ morale.

"Tsk, that’s the general?" Aries mumbled and rolled her eyes. "I was expecting more from them, but all of them are a waste!"

Even Leo, who wasn’t one to underestimate the opponents, was slightly taken aback. He expected the elves to be strong, but they turned out to be pathetically weak.

"Something feels off..."
