Chapter 163: Wherever I Go, Death Follows... (2)

"A’Mila took down the tower guards," Amelia’s voice echoed in Adrian’s earpiece. "We’re heading towards the church now."

"Copy that," Adrian replied, retrieving a handheld explosive from his inventory. "I’ll send the signal soon. Feel free to rush towards the objective after."

"Got it," three feminine voices replied.

The news came after a minute. The girls were inside the compound, and now was the time for the Chimaera’s sweet revenge.

The people inside the Church’s courtyard were laughing and smiling and having a good time, but then it all came to a halt. A series of explosions rocked the courtyard, each more powerful than the last.

The air was filled with dust and debris, and the once joyous crowd was now stumbling and disoriented as they ran for cover. At the same time, the rest helped those injured.

Within moments, the dust and smoke surged to the sky, shrouding the entire courtyard, but they could make out the shape of a massive hole created in the Church’s so-called impenetrable walls.

Disgruntled and disoriented, the guards scrambled to their feet, their training triggered as they scanned the courtyard for signs of danger. But there were none.

While the guards didn’t drop their guard, they weren’t prepared for what would happen next.

From the swirling cloud of dust and smoke, a massive wolf emerged. Its pristine white fur was covered by a thick layer of leather armour, protecting it from the attacks as it lunged at the nearest guard.

"ARGH!" the man roared as he was dragged away from his comrades.

"Get it off him! Someone, help!" a priestess yelled, but the guards were too shocked to do anything.

Panic gripped the guards as they recoiled in horror, their swords drawn but trembling in their hands. The wolf’s jaws snapped shut with the man’s hand inside its mouth, crushing it. Its teeth sank into flesh as it tore through the helpless guard.

The courtyard erupted into chaos as screams filled the air, the guards’ training no match for the sheer brutality of the wolf’s onslaught.

He fought desperately to defend themselves, but their efforts were in vain against the relentless fury of the beast. One after another, the guard lost all his limbs until only his sword arm remained.

Even in such a dire situation, the guard didn’t lose hope and wildly swung his arms around, trying to hit the wolf somewhere, anywhere, as the beast dug its teeth into the guard’s neck, snapping it in half before standing before the makeshift entrance.

"Aria, help us! What is that thing?" another one of the pastors commented.

"We need reinforcements! Now!" Jake Calahan, one of the Raven’s elites, barked the order into one of his underlings’ faces. "And get these useless fucks out of here!"

"Y-Yes, sir!" the man replied before running towards the Church along with the clergypeople.

Once the Church personnel were safe, the remaining guards took positions before the wolf. The Clergypeople were safe, but it didn’t mean they could relax.

They had to keep the creature busy until the reinforcements arrived. Unfortunately, fate was dealing them the worst cards, one after the other.

Their fears were compounded by shock when they saw a man entering through the hole in the wall. Jake didn’t know what to expect, but he was expecting anything but a dead man walk inside.

Upon entering, Adrian surveyed the scene. The once serene garden he had spent countless hours in was in tatters as if a cyclone had hit it. He felt a bit uneasy but shrugged and moved on.

His eyes then fell on the dead soldier, and all he did was scoff before turning his attention towards the remaining guards.

"No Tim or Chubby, huh?" Adrian mumbled, shaking his head.

He had hoped to get his revenge in one swift move, but fate seemed to have other plans. The assassins would have to wait, but for the rest of them... it was a different case.

"What are you doing here?" Jake mumbled, his red hair furling behind his head.

"Are you surprised?" Adrian acted offended. "I thought you all were ready for me. You had a big welcoming party planned, didn’t you?"

"Cut your bullshit! How are you still alive!?"

"To answer your question, some of your moronic teammates couldn’t do the job properly. So I’m here to teach them. But it looks like they’ll miss the lesson." Adrian sighed, shaking his head in disappointment. "I guess you people will have to do."

Jake drew out his blade without saying another word. He had simply named it the Widow. It was a broadsword, like Adrian’s, but with a saw-toothed edge.

"Don’t worry about them-" Jake replied but was interrupted by Adrian.

"You’re not as many as I thought," Adrian smirked, playing mind games with Jake. It feels like someone messed with the Ravens like they poisoned them or something."

Jake heard those words, and his mind went to the scene that had unfolded last night. Red had brought them all a giant barrel of fine wine and told them to enjoy it.

However, after drinking the wine, all hell broke loose in the Raven guild. Everyone who had touched the wine began puking their guts out and eventually passed out.

A handful of them with low poison resistance also died. Moreover, it was a kind of poison for which they had no antidotes. So, even the ones who didn’t die were still in danger of losing their lives at any moment.

"It was you!" Jake snarled, rushing towards Adrian in anger. "You planned all this!"

"Oh, come on, no need to be angry just yet," Adrian smiled, blocking Jake’s attack as sparks flew everywhere when their blades clashed. "I’ll give you plenty of reasons to get even angrier."

Inspired by Jake, the others were about to rush in. But they only managed to take a step when Fenris jumped between them, attacking whoever got too close. Clearly, the wolf wouldn’t let anyone interfere with her master’s duel.
