Chapter 131: Massacre (1)

"What is that!?" Akila asked as soon as Adrian brought out the Queen’s corpse.

The entire thing was marred with burn wounds and melted body parts. But the worst thing about it was the smell. It felt like a thousand rotten eggs had been dumped on the battlefield.

People frowned, covering their noses as the smell of dried sulphur overwhelmed them. While the Banurs didn’t recognise the beast, the Tulkas did, which was part of Adrian’s intention.

Tulkas might refer to Adrian as a traitor or an outsider, but there was one thing they couldn’t take away from him. It was him who killed the Queen, not Milka, but him.

If he could single-handedly defeat Queen Arachnid, dealing with the tribe would be a child’s play.

’That’s what they’ll think,’ Adrian thought, his fingers brushing against the Queen’s corpse.

He planned to play with the enemy’s mind. After all, an enemy with a troubled mind already had one foot in their grave. And he was right.

The morale boost the Tulkas got from having Mammoroth by their side was thrown out of their minds as soon as they saw the Queen’s ghastly-looking corpse.

After all, they knew that in a fight between the Queen and the King of Beasts, the Queen would win with relative ease.

As such, someone who had defeated the Queen would likely also defeat the Mammoroth. Only Adrian knew how he had defeated the Queen and why it wasn’t possible for him to deal with the Mammoroth himself. But the Tulkas didn’t need to know about it.

At the same time, Vincent was wide-eyed when he saw his kin fighting alongside the Banurs. He couldn’t understand why Shu was there either.

But then it hit him... Shu and his wife, Reena, disappeared a couple of years back. Could the Tulkas be mixed up in their disappearance? If that’s true and he sides with the tribe, it could mean trouble for him. Alfvania would see that as an act of betrayal, possibly costing him his life.

"What’s going on here!?" he gritted his teeth, not knowing which side to fight to win.

On one hand, he wanted to kill Adrian, but on the other, he had the support of his cousins, which made matters complicated. However, it also worked in his favour in a twisted sense.

"As long as my people are here, Adrian wouldn’t be able to lay a hand on me," Vincent smiled, turning to face Clara. "Don’t worry, I’ll protect you from him as well."

Clara smiled weakly, grateful that her loyalty to Vincent was finally paying off. But somewhere in her heart, she knew someone as trivial as a few elves wouldn’t be enough to save them, not after what they had done to Amelia and Sophia. Yet, she hoped for the best.

’Something in his eyes tells me Adrian won’t let go of what we have done so easily...’

She was right...

At the same time...

"I’ll leave my life in your hands," Adrian whispered, looking at Fenris and Akila before beginning the absorption process.

"...I’m not even going to ask what you mean by that," Ahuli replied, knowing that something was off with Adrian ever since he entered the enemy settlement.

Adrian ignored the comment and got down to business. Every second was precious, and he had no intention of wasting his time.

"Ogre Skin Patches," Adrian replied.

He had thought about it for some time and figured out that wearing the Ogre skin boosted his defence stats, nothing more. Adrian could just raise his stats himself for the same effect.

Meanwhile, the Queen was his ticket to getting rid of his fatal weakness—poison. He hoped that having poison in his body would make him immune to poison, figuratively turning the troll’s blood into an elixir.

"Here goes nothing..."

Adrian pursed his lips and steeled his nerves, for he knew he’d be in a world of pain within seconds. His compatibility with the Poison gland of the Queen was on the lower side, which was expected. Hence, the pain of integration would be amplified by a large margin.

On the other side of the battlefield, a fight raged on. The Tulkas outnumbered the Banurs by two to one, but their numbers were matched since the elves had joined the fray.

While unexpected, Ahuli and Skaha had already prepared their soldier for such a scenario. They understood that if the Banurs ever attacked, they’d have to seek assistance from someone.

It could come from other tribes or even a group they didn’t know about. So, they weren’t worried about their numbers.

But even in all their knowledge and experience, the Banurs have bested them time and time again. Besides, since they had no experience in fighting against the elves, they were in a worse position than they had thought.

But there was still hope for their victory. Mammoroth’s presence would have a massive impact on the result of the war.

"Nothing can beat a raging beast!" Skaha laughed while the healers quickly worked their magic on Ahuli’s wound.

"That bitch... I’ll have her head!" Ahuli cursed A’Mila in pain.

Had it not been for her arrows, he would be out there fighting with his people. But now he had to stay back, hoping the healers would manage to heal his broken collarbone so he could participate in the battle.

However, that seemed unlikely.

Unlike the Banurs, the Tulka healers had little experience dealing with such wounds. Their Nexarian guests were the ones proficient in such practice, but in a fit of rage, Ahuli had all of them slaughtered, and now he was helpless.

Suddenly, the cries grew louder, alerting Skaha and Ahuli.

"What is going on there?" Ahuli asked, trying to get up, but Skaha forced him to lie down.

"Don’t stress yourself. I’ll go and see what’s happening."

With that, Skaha left the house, leaving behind a couple of elite guards to protect Ahuli while the rest followed him outside. However, he heard a swish of arrows flying towards them, with death written all over them.
