Chapter 130: The Price Of Betrayal (2)

Chapter 130: The Price Of Betrayal (2)

While Adrian thought of ways to deal with the tribe without depending on the Minotaur’s heart, a familiar face appeared before him.

"Milka, my son, what did you do to him!? Where is he!?" Suhi yelled, breaking from the crowd.

Adrian could have given him a straight answer, but not anymore. He was going to toy with them, just like they had played with the heroes.

"What do you mean, Dad?" Adrian replied in his altered voice to replicate Milka’s. "I’m here, right in front of you! I never left our tribe. At the moment, I’m just hanging out with the slimes, feeding myself to them. But don’t worry; soon, you’ll be joining me."

"You bastard! How could you!?" Suhi’s voice trembled with anguish as he cried for Milka, even though he knew his son wasn’t returning to him. "You will never know peace! This is a father’s curse-"

"As if I have ever felt at peace," Adrian shook his head, mumbling to himself as Suhi collapsed to his knees, cursing Adrian through his tears.

"Stop with the crocodile tears. Think about the families of the heroes. Imagine the pain they would feel, seeing the severed heads of their loved ones." Adrian continued. "Your tribe started the war. I’m only here to put an end to it-"

"You’re some messiah, huh?" Vincent scoffed, pointing his sword towards Adrian. "You low-life bastard! All of this happened because of you! If only you had died that night like planned, none of this would have happened-"

At that moment, Vincent had a strange look on his face. He realised he had messed up by saying those words. Although he had been aware of Adrian’s assassination plan, he had no part in it. But for Adrian, it would seem that it was Vincent’s plan to get him killed.

Vincent looked at Adrian, expecting some reaction. But Adrian was as cold as ice. It didn’t appear that Vincent’s words had any effect on him, and he was right.

"I forgot about your betrayal once, but this time, there will be no second chances," Adrian replied without taking his eyes off Ahuli.

He continued, "But don’t worry. I’ll deliver your head to Alfvania with a speed post. So your family and experience a fraction of what you have done today."

"Have you lost your mind!? Do you have any idea who you’re-" Clara went berserk as if her outburst would do anything to help them.

"Shh... I have special plans for you, too," Adrian turned towards Clara, his eyes shining red. "Sophia spoke highly of you, so I let you be.

But after witnessing your betrayal, I have no qualms about feeding your corpse to the dogs. And mark my words... it will happen, even if it’s the last thing I do."

Clara got quiet after that, probably planning an exit strategy that would never come to be.

Witnessing Adrian’s reaction, the tribals tensed up, ready to attack Adrian. But Ahuli held his hand and stopped them. In his eyes, the words out of Adrian’s mouth were nothing more than the rambling of a dead man.

Ahuli listened silently and instructed the other to do the same as if granting a dying man his final wish. But it was a grave error, for Adrian was merely biding his time, a ploy to buy time for the Banurs.

"Those were quite big words coming out of your mouth," Ahuli scoffed, rolling his eyes. "I hope you’re satisfied and ready to die now?"

"I wanted to ask the same: are you ready to die now?"

Ahuli shook his head, pitying Adrian’s stupidity as he raised his spear. He’d have let Adrian live had he begged for mercy. After all, he was a skilled soldier.

But it seemed the outsider had made up his mind, and being the benevolent leader Ahuli was, he decided to cut Adrian’s life short then and there.

However, an arrow whizzed past Adrian just as Ahuli was about to strike. He jumped to evade the attack, but the arrow its mark on his shoulder with a sickening thud. Pain shot through Ahuli’s body as his collarbone snapped under the force of the impact.

Stunned, Ahuli staggered back, his grip on his spear loosening. He turned to see A’mila standing amidst the Banurs, her bow still drawn and ready for another shot.

"Don’t you dare lay hands on my pet!" She snarled.

Her eyes blazed with determination as she met Ahuli’s gaze, her message clear—she would protect Adrian at any cost.

"Protect the chieftain!" Skaha yelled, and the tribals formed a human shield around Ahuli, but they were slow.

A’Mila fired another arrow as the elves and the Banurs charged into the battle, yelling their battle cries. A few brave souls jumped in front of Ahuli, only to have their heads severed by the arrow. Their blood splattered everywhere as their heads rolled under their feet.

Meanwhile, Fenris, ever loyal to her master, rushed to Adrian’s side. She had grown slightly in that moment as her massive form was a shield against further threats. Her ability, called [Alter Form], allowed Fenris to change her size on command.

With a low growl, she bared his teeth, warning the Tulkas to think twice before attempting another attack. However, Fenris wasn’t the only beast with special powers.

Seeing things going south, Skaha whistled loudly, and everything went silent. The Tulkas knew what was about to happen and scattered away from Skaha and Ahuli.

The following moment, the ground trembled beneath their feet as a deafening roar shattered the silence. From the horizon emerged a colossal figure. Its massive form was all one could see as it thundered forward like an unstoppable force.

The creature’s massive tusks gleamed even in the dark as it barreled through buildings and obstacles in its path. Its sheer size and power struck fear into the hearts of their enemies, scattering them like leaves in a storm.

"Is that..." Akila mumbled, joining Adrian.

"A Mammoroth," Adrian replied, taking out his sword, but there was something else he wanted to get out of his inventory. "Can you keep it busy for a while? There’s something I need to do."

"...are you serious?" Akila stared at Adrian but sighed, scratching his head when Adrian’s expression remained unchanged. "Five minutes... that’s all I can do without risking the life of the others."

"That’d be more than enough," Adrian replied, dumping the Arachnid Queen’s corpse before the crowd.
