Chapter 55: Claire’s Excitement!
Evander’s POV
The next day at the office, just as I settled into my chair, Zaniel barged in with an exasperated look. "Boss! Please meet Mr. Storme— he has been blowing up my phone with calls!"
"Zaniel, I just walked in. Don’t make my day worse by bringing up that flashy idiot." I growled.
I had zero interest in dealing with Damian Storme, a so-called superstar who lived for drama. He was constantly caught up in rumors with every woman he crossed paths with, and the last thing I wanted was to get dragged into his chaotic mess.
Zaniel sighed, rubbing his temples. "Boss, Mr. Storme said if you don’t meet with him, he is going to do something that you really won’t like."
I narrowed my eyes. Typical Damian—using every trick in the book to force my hand. I could see the toll it was taking on Zaniel, too. Damian must have really been hounding him to get my attention.
"Fine," I muttered reluctantly. "Get me the file. If his project has any real merit, I will consider it. But he better not waste my time."
I glanced at my watch, frustrated. All I wanted was some time alone to think about Claire and figure out how to win her back without forcing things. But my so-called friend was making it impossible to have a moment of peace.
"Here, these are the files!" Zaniel said, dropping a thick stack onto my desk.
I raised an eyebrow. "What is all this? I thought I was supposed to look at one script."
Zaniel sighed, looking like he was holding back a groan. "Yes, that was the plan. But Mr. Damian said this is your punishment for ignoring him for so long."
I rolled my eyes. "Of course he did," I muttered, waving my hand dismissively. "Just give me the one I am actually supposed to work on."
Zaniel rummaged through the stack and pulled out a single folder, handing it over. "Here is the real one. But just know he really wanted you to go through all of them."
"Bastard, Damian," I grumbled, opening the folder. "Thanks, Zaniel. Let him know he doesn’t need to make it so dramatic every time."
"He said he wouldn’t, but only if you are at the meeting spot right at 12:05 p.m.," Zaniel said, sounding a bit exasperated.
"What is wrong with that guy? Can’t I just have one day to sit here and actually breathe?" I groaned.
Zaniel gave me a sympathetic shrug but stayed silent as I started flipping through the so-called important script.
"Fine," I muttered as my eyes scanned the first page. "Tell him I will be there on time. I am not about to give him any more reasons to pull this nonsense." I tried to focus on the words, but my mind kept drifting back to Claire and what I had to do to win her back. This meeting with Damian was the last thing I needed, but I would deal with it, just to get him off my back.

Claire’s POV
"This script is amazing! I would love to be part of this project, even if it’s just a minor side character!" I exclaimed, flipping through the pages with excitement.
Sissy raised an eyebrow and sipped her coffee. "Well, you are actually auditioning for the third female lead. It is not the main role, but it’s solid enough to leave an impression— just like you did last time."
I nodded, already imagining myself in the role. "I don’t mind at all! I am just excited to get back on set."
"Good," Sissy said with a smile. "But remember, we need to be there by 11 a.m. sharp. No room for being fashionably late this time."
"Got it," I replied, trying to calm my nerves. This could be the chance I had been waiting for.
Even though I was thrilled about this new project, I couldn’t stop thinking about yesterday. Evander and I had said so much to each other. It felt like there was a huge mess between us that neither of us could fix. I thought I was ready to move on, but his words still echoed in my mind.
I had tried to convince myself that I was done and that I didn’t want to be with him anymore. But the thought of Evander— that cold and distant man whom I used to know—now trying to chase me and win me back brought a strange spark of excitement.
Was it silly to feel that way? I didn’t know, but part of me wanted to see just how far he would go.
"I didn’t even agree, and yet he left without waiting for my answer. Did he just assume I would say yes because he asked me to?" I muttered under my breath. My eyes were on the script in front of me, but my mind kept drifting back to Evander, again and again.
"Hey, stop thinking about that man," Sissy said, giving the back of my head a playful whack with a soft pillow. "Sure, he might be handsome, but I don’t like him much. He is so cold, it’s like standing in the middle of the North Pole whenever he is around."
Was he? I didn’t feel it yesterday!
"Really?" I raised an eyebrow. "Weren’t you the one who promised you would support me no matter what I decided?"
"Only because I didn’t think you would actually go through with it! If you wanted to be with him, you shouldn’t have left the hospital yesterday. Even the doctors practically begged you to stay," Sissy scoffed, crossing her arms. "He asked you to stay for the night and rest but you left in a hurry!"
"Well, that was..."
