Chapter 46: I Loved You!
Chapter 46: I Loved You!
Susan’s POV
What on earth was happening here? I only asked for Evander to come, so why did she have to tag along?
Seeing Claire standing there with him made my blood boil. Was he with her? I tried to keep my temper in check, but it stung the way Evander looked at me— no, the way he dismissed me in front of Claire. My heart clenched, and I struggled to hide my frustration and embarrassment.
"Get up," he commanded, his tone indifferent as I lay there, still in pain. "I have an important meeting to get to. I can’t spend all my time here." Then, as if adding salt to the wound, he glanced at Claire and said, "And she needs to head back as well."
I forced myself to hold it together, but every word cut deeper. How could he be so cold— especially in front of her? He was usually this way, but did he have to treat me like this in front of Claire?
"Let me help you," Claire offered softly, stepping toward me with her hand outstretched. But I slapped it away, glaring at her.
"Why are you here?" I hissed, barely able to contain my anger. "I didn’t ask for you to come!"
She opened her mouth to say something, glancing over at Evander, clearly at a loss. For a moment, it seemed even she didn’t know why she had come along.
"I just..." Claire started, her voice fading as she looked awkwardly between Evander and me. She seemed just as uncomfortable as I was annoyed by her presence. But seeing her standing there next to Evander only made me feel even more humiliated.
"I brought her to help you," Evander said, his tone calm but distant. "Besides, I already called an ambulance— it will be here soon." He glanced at his watch, looking slightly impatient, as if he were forced to be here.
"Really?" I scoffed, struggling to get to my feet despite the sharp pain in my ankle. I nearly stumbled, but managed to hold myself up. "You have always been by my side, Evander, but lately... all you do is ignore me!" I forced myself to meet his gaze, my frustration simmering even more. "What did I do wrong? Or is this your way of finally getting back at Claire for walking out on you three years ago? Don’t tell me you are really taking revenge on her as you have said!"
Evander’s face tightened, but he said nothing. The silence only fueled my anger, and I couldn’t help but feel the bitterness rising within me.
"Re... revenge?" Claire’s face twisted with shock, clearly rattled by my words. She looked at Evander, as if searching for an explanation.
I hid my smirk, feeling a spark of satisfaction. This wasn’t exactly what I’d planned, but it was working well enough.
"Strange, isn’t it?" I said, leaning against the wall to hide my pain. "What people will do when the past comes back."
"What does she mean by you wanting to take revenge on me, Mr. Kensington!?" Claire asked. Her voice was trembling as she tried to contain herself.
However, I never imagined the next step of Claire would change everything by her fake act once again!
Claire’s POV
"What a joke this all is!" I couldn’t keep it in any longer. "You both went behind my back, leaving me alone, disappearing in and out of the country, flaunting your little affair while I was left here, wondering if I even mattered to you! You made me feel like I was nothing but a mistress!" My voice broke as years of bottled-up frustration spilled out uncontrollably.
My whole body trembled with anger, my hands clenched tightly. "You never picked up my calls... I waited for you— on my birthdays, on our anniversaries! But where were you, Evander? At parties with your rumored ’girlfriend,’ acting like I was a ghost in your life. I was supposed to be your life partner, but you made me feel like I was nothing!"
I could see the shock in Evander’s eyes. He looked hurt by my words, but I didn’t care anymore. The hurt, the anger, and the years of feeling invisible to him— it was all finally coming out.
"I loved you, Evander! I gave you everything!" My voice grew louder, unable to contain the hurt boiling up inside. "I fought my family just to be with you. I sacrificed my dreams, my career, everything! But what did you give me in return?"
My body started to betray me, panic creeping in like a wave I couldn’t hold back. I hadn’t felt this way in over a year, but right now, standing here and hearing about revenge— it shattered all the control I thought I had gained.
Every ignored call, every lonely night—all of it came rushing back. To think that the man I loved, the one I gave up so much for, was now just here to hurt me—it was too much to bear.
"What... What did you just say?" Evander’s voice was low but intense as he stepped closer, his grip firm as he steadied my trembling body. He made me look straight into his eyes, ignoring Susan, who was still in pain.
"Let go of me! Don’t touch me!" I tried to pull away, but Evander’s hold was unyielding. His arms surrounded me, making it impossible to break free. I felt trapped; the closeness between us stirred up emotions I had tried so hard to bury.
"She’s just lying!" Susan’s voice rang out, drawing both of our attention. "Evander, did she not tell you she was in love with someone else when she left? How can you believe her lies?"
"Enough!" Evander snapped. His voice was sharp, filled with frustration. Without another word, he took my hand, as his grip was steady and decisive, and led me out of the apartment. I followed, not knowing where he was taking me as I tried to protest for him to leave me alone!
I didn’t wish to face him and talk to him in such a condition!
