Chapter 376: Misunderstanding

Time passed by and Gwen didn’t see Karl returning to the cabin. Suddenly she started to regret her actions making her feel guilty about how she behaved with him.

"I shouldn’t have reacted this way. He must be feeling upset" she mumbled stopping her work midway and looked towards the door, hoping Karl may just walk in, but he didn’t.

"I should go and check on him," she thought and got up from her seat before stepping out of the cabin.

Gwen felt bad for overreacting and pouring all her anger on Karl and now she wanted to coax him.

Walking the long corridor, Gwen kept on looking for Karl when suddenly her legs stopped and her eyes squinted watching through the glass wall.

Linda was hugging Karl as she cried in his embrace. The softness in Gwen’s eyes vanished within a second and her face turned cold.

She was getting worried because she hurt Karl by giving him the cold shoulder. She wanted to apologize but what she saw made her withdraw back her thoughts.

’I was getting worried for nothing’ A cold gleam passed through her eyes and she let out a humorless chuckle before turning around and walking back to the cabin.

Meanwhile, inside Linda’s cabin, Karl felt a little uncomfortable when suddenly Linda hugged him out of nowhere.

He had just stepped out of the restroom and was heading back to his cabin but stopped noticing Linda’s cabin on the way.

Karl thought of apologizing to Linda for Gwen’s rude behavior earlier. He knew Gwen would act childish in her jealousy and today she misunderstood the entire situation, so it was his responsibility to make up for his girlfriend’s mistake.

With that, he knocked on her cabin’s door and stepped inside but what he saw the moment he entered his eyes widen in shock.

Linda had been sobbing sitting on her head chair and crying silently. She was so busy with her own dismay that she didn’t even bother to check who have entered the cabin.

"Linda," Karl asked out of concern. He had a feeling that this crying was because of whatever happened inside the cabin between her and Gwen.

Karl had always been respectful toward everyone and even though he didn’t like Linda that much because of the past incident still he couldn’t leave her when he already knew the reason behind her crying.

The moment she heard a familiar voice Linda shot her head up and looked at Karl with a shocked expression. "Karl! sniff!! " Linda wiped off her tears and heaved out a forceful smile.

Her swollen red eyes and the tip of her nose gave him the impression that she had been crying for too long.

Sighing in defeat he approached the girl by standing in front of her desk and apologized. "Linda.. for earlier whatever happened. Gwen didn’t mean to hurt you"

Karl just wanted clear this air. He just wanted to maintain a professional relationship between the two without letting their personal grudge come into their works way.

He knew Gwen was at fault so he decided to take the first step to ask forgiveness from her.

Linda scrunched her nose as she stood up from her seat and approached him with a smile. "You don’t have to apologize Karl. I didn’t take Gwen’s words to my heart" Though she said those words deep down she was smiling evilly.

Linda could see her efforts of gaining Karl’s trust were paying off. She just wanted to push a little to get what she wants.

"I know she loves you a lot and getting insecure watching some other women get closer to her man makes her feel uncomfortable but trust me Karl it wasn’t my intention," she said maintaining the same pitiful face when suddenly she tripped losing her balance.

Karl who noticed it quickly held her stopping her from falling with her face unknowingly resting on his chest making it look like she was hugging him.

Karl didn’t realize what just happened but the moment she rested close to him, he let go of his off her suddenly feeling uncomfortable.

"I am sorry" After almost a minute Linda finally pulled back as she smirked internally with her eyes looking outside from where she watched Gwen storm away in a rage.

’ Well done Linda’ she praised herself mentally quickly swapping her reaction into a bewildering one.

"I am so sorry, I didn’t know how I lost my balance," she said apologetically and quickly took a step back.

Karl watched her flushed face and bobbed his head in awkwardness. "It’s okay" Being touched by her was making him feel uneasy. He just felt like cleaning himself.

"Once again sorry for Gwen’s behavior earlier. I hope this won’t affect our work" he once again apologized and watched her bob her head in understanding.

"It’s okay Karl.." sensing her mood returning to normal Karl then walked out of her cabin, unknown of how her smile dropped and her eyes shined evilly.

Reaching the cabin Karl wanted to coax Gwen hoping her anger must’ve vanished by now but when he stepped in he didn’t find Gwen anywhere.

Her desktop screen was turned off neither her handbag was present on the table and which made him wonder where she had gone.

Pulling out his cell phone he tried to call her but her phone was switched off and that sank his heart.

Gwen had never left anywhere without informing him, and that made him wonder if she was still upset with him and didn’t want to see his face or what if she wasn’t feeling well.

"How should I reach her" Karl brushed his hair in frustration feeling helpless about not finding Gwen.

Gwen hailed a cab and drove back home. She was hurt after what she witnessed. Her heart tried to tell her not to doubt Karl but her mind said otherwise.

All the way back to the Knight’s mansion Gwen didn’t stop crying. She felt like someone stabbed her heart making her feel suffocated with the images that kept playing in her mind.

Stepping inside the house she ran towards her room and slammed the door close before slumping down on the floor.

Clutching her heart, she tried to stop her tears but she couldn’t. Her eyes then fell on her handbag as she remembered calling her brother before taking a leave informing him that she wasn’t feeling well.

Tristan had asked her to come to the Brown Mansion as he was concerned about her but she decline saying she would be fine all by herself.

She knew her puzzled words might have irked questions in Tristan’s mind, but she didn’t care. She just wanted to isolate herself until she felt better.

Sitting like that leaning her back against the door, Gwen kept crying. The way Linda and Karl were hugging made her heart rip apart.

Linda managed to create a rift between the two but she didn’t expect Karl would defend her, even though he knew how she was.

"I won’t talk with him," she said firmly and wiped off her tears before pushing herself to stand up and marched towards the bathroom.
