Chapter 375: A mission

Getting up from the couch, Tori walked toward the huge mirror on the dressing table and watched herself mockingly smiling at her.

"What happened now? Are you missing him?" she spoke to herself.

Tori on the other hand stood all dumbstruck unable to process what was happening. She stood there inside the mirror speaking all to herself. The way she looked at her from the mirror made her wonder if she was upset with herself or was just mocking her.

"No!.. I don’t " she obliged. Her face hardened looking at her image.

"Liar" she spoke.

"Why would I lie." she spat back with much annoyance in her tone. Crossing her hands she looked firmly at herself.

"Sigh.. such a stubborn girl. You know that you cannot hide anything from me but since you want to decline then let it be" Tori frowned on her words. Her reflection spoke as if she knew her very well. ’It was just her hallucination and nothing more.’

Tori kept looking into the mirror as she watched the girl smile at her until her phone rang and she snapped out of her trance. She turned to look at her phone and then back at the mirror only to find her other self gone with her current reflection looking back at her.

Heaving out a sigh, she then picked up the call. It was from Gabriel, so without any further due she spoke," Hello Boss. Is there anything I can help you with" She was back with her normal aura as she asked?

Gabriel who was currently sitting inside his office eyed the piece of information both Jack and Max have managed to gather. "I want you to come to the base as soon as possible," he said with a much more serious tone.

Tori didn’t oblige and immediately agreed to his command. Ending the call she got changed and left the house heading straight towards the dungeon’s base.

Twenty minutes later she stood in front of Gabriel with her eyes keenly observing the man who never once lifted his head to look at her.

His eyes were very busy reading something so she took that time to turn to his side. Max stood next to him with his face blankly looking ahead.

Never once he looked at her and that broke her heart. She never thought once so friendly relationships would turn out this sour with him acting like a stranger to her.

After much observation, Gabriel finally looked up noticing Tori who had her eyes on Max.

"Ahem..."

Snapping out of her trance Tori then looked back at Gabriel cluelessly. Her mind partially focused on Max’s ignorance while her attention partially focused on Gabriel’s questioning face.

Once she had all her eyes on him Gabriel finally spoke. "Tori I want you and Max to visit a particular doctor of Life Care hospital. The one from whose cabin this Sandra’s look-alike woman walked out"

A crease marred both Max and Tori’s faces as they both snapped their eyes in Gabriel’s direction.

"WE.."

"WE.."

They both yelled in unison firstly looking at Gabriel and then back at each other.

"I will do it all by myself boss" Max quickly decline going with Tori for the mission. He just wanted to be all myself without getting associated with her anyhow.

"And may I know why are you willing to do the mission all by yourself Max" Gabriel asked as he cocked his brow staring at his most trusted man in amusement.

This was the very first time, Max had declined his orders and he wanted to know why?

’Why wasn’t he ready to take Tori along’ he thought.

Max eyed Gabriel with shock before composing himself and explained," I don’t think Tori’s presence is needed, boss. I can deal with the doctor alone"

"But I want to go" Tori spoke out of the blue catching their attention.

Her deep eyes stared back at him with determination, especially at Max who was trying his best to sideline her.

Max noticed the stubbornness in her tone and sighed. "Give the orders boss I will get this work done" he too was stubborn as her.

Tori’s lips twitched in annoyance when she noticed how adamant Max appeared to fulfill this mission.

"But I want to join too" she spat back ignoring the wide eyes on both the men who watched her in awe. She looked like a persistent child who was eager to do the work given to her.

Gabriel on the other hand was entirely dumbfounded by their stubbornness and heaved out a sigh as he pinched the space between his brows.

"Stop it you both," he said with much irritation in his voice and looked up at the two.

"Who are you, five years old kids? Why are you both acting so stubborn" he spat in anger shutting their mouth close.

Moving his eyes back and forth between them, he watched him lower their head in silence and said," It’s already decided you both are going and that’s final"

Eyeing the two for one last time he spat, "Now leave.. don’t waste your time standing here" The loud roar made them move like a machine as they walked out of his cabin without any question.

As soon as they stepped out Tori stopped Max who kept walking ahead of her as if she was some kind of disease he was protecting himself from.

"Why did you decline boss’s order?" she asked.

Max stopped a few distances away from his car but didn’t turn to look back. His eyes remained the same cold and indifferent as he gnashed his teeth before answering her," Because I don’t want to do the mission with you" he spat with much coldness.

Tori was stunned by his emotionless tone. Max who has always been polite with his speech rudely spoke his heart out.

’Does he hate her now?’ she thought as her eyes welled up watching him never for once looking back at her.

Max who didn’t hear her back closed his eyes. He felt bad for being this blunt with his words which only ripped his heart couldn’t do anything. He thought it was the only way of retreating from his liking towards her.

Tightening his heart, he opened his eyes and walked towards his car, and entered leaving Tori all by herself.

A tear rolled down from her eye as she watched the man she loved walk away from her.
