Chapter 358: We found the man
That evening Tristan returned to the bedroom and that bothered Ashley way too much. She knew he was upset but that didn’t mean he would distance himself from her.
Glancing at the door for god knows how many times, Ashley finally decided to go and check on him. She knew he was inside his study, so without wasting a second she headed there.
Standing in front of the closed door, Ashley took a deep breath before she lifted her hand and knock on it.
Click opening the door, she entered the room hoping she would see Tristan busy working but to her surprise, the view she saw clenched her heart.
With his head leaning back, Tristan was resting on his chair with his eyes closed.
The moment she stood next to him, Ashley reached out her hand towards his face but before it could touch it, Tristan shot open his eyes and stopped her by holding her hand.
"What are you doing here? Didn’t I ask you to rest?" a deep frown marred his face when he saw her standing in front of him.
Tristan wanted to spend some time alone just to sort out his disturbing thoughts, that’s why he decided to leave the room and stay in his study. He expected Ashley to rest in their bedroom but instead of relaxing, she was standing here in front of him.
"What are you trying to do Tristan?" Ashley asked him instead.
She thought they had made a pact of sharing their troubles with each other and without sorting them out they wouldn’t walk away. Then why was he ignoring her all of sudden.
Why would he let her thoughts affect their relationship? Didn’t he trust her or was he so obsessed with Gabriel being the culprit that he didn’t want anyone to defend him?
Her words made Tristan let go of her hand and he quickly looked away. "What am I trying to do?" tucking his chair forward, he then picked up a file and opened it as he tried to dodge her question.
Ashley watched how Tristan was trying to avoid meeting her eyes, but she wasn’t going to leave unless she gets her answer. She wanted to know what words of hers made him this upset that he didn’t even want to look at her.
Crossing her arms over her chest, Ashley watched him purposely bury his attention into the file which he opened with the words inside it upside down.
Taking a glance at Ashley from the corner of his eyes, Tristan shut his eyes close before he opened them and turned to look at her. "What?" he asked sensing how intently she was staring at him.
"How long do you plan on avoiding me?" she asked as she knitted her brows in anger.
Tristan’s eyes widen a little but he quickly composed his shock and looked away. "Avoid! And me why would I do that? You know I have been working all this while and just took a nap a few minutes before you stepped in" he lied.
He wasn’t busy doing work but was busy sulking because he couldn’t digest the fact Ashley sided with Gabriel and she sounded so confident about it.
Ashley cocked her brow as she watched him ignore her question once again.
Staring at him for a few more minutes, Ashley sighed.
"Fine, if that’s what you want then let it be. I won’t force you to talk with me" Her voice sounded a little hurtful as she concluded and dropped her hands over her chest and turned to leave but before she could reach the door, Tristan hugged her from behind.
"Let me go. I know you need space" ignoring his warmth, Ashley tried to remove his hand from her waist but failed because he didn’t let her do that.
"Why are you stopping me now, Tristan when you have been avoiding me the entire time" Dropping her struggle she stood still. Her eyes blankly looked at the door.
Ashley didn’t like the way he was behaving with her but knowing how he rarely expressed his disappointments, she decided to give him some time. She thought giving him the time he needed to calm himself would help them return back to normal but here he was hugging her like a koala.
Tristan didn’t say a word and just kept hugging her. He knew somewhere his actions had hurt Ashley but what was he supposed to do when his heart wasn’t ready to see her worried for someone he hated so much?
Time passed by and they both remained in the same position when finally Ashley decided to turn and face him. Watching him lower his eyes, Ashley understood he was guilty about his actions.
"I know you are upset because I am defending Gabriel but that doesn’t mean I have developed a soft corner for him" Cupping his face she made him look at her.
The remorse in his blue orbs was crystal clear, but then why wasn’t he trying to think logically? If he shoves away his jealousy and thinks wisely, he would come to understand what she means.
"But what if it’s all his plan to make us believe him? You know he isn’t trustworthy" Tristan’s eyes turned firm when he expressed his thoughts.
More than him no one else knew how Gabriel was. His thoughts changed within a second from completely being with them to going against them. He didn’t want to say it but he had fathers trait within him and in these years they have developed tremendously.
His thirst for revenge had changed him from being a good-hearted boy to a cold, merciless, and heartless human.
"I know and I am not asking you to drop your guards. I just want you to think the other way" Her words made him crease his brow and he asked," Other way? Do you think there is any way that can stop me from doubting him"
"My every suspicion is pointing towards him. What should I do?" he further stated.
"So why not wait for Jack to find that man? It’s only he who can tell us the truth" Tristan looked at her for a few seconds before bobbing his head in agreement.
Ashley finally felt at ease once Tristan agreed to her. She just wanted to know who was that person that tamper with the brakes of their car and why did he run away if he had no intention of killing her.
Tristan who had his eyes fixed on her noticed her spacing out. "Okay now, let’s just not waste our time thinking more about this incident. I have already ignored my wife and baby for too long and now it’s time for me to make up with them"
Letting go of her waist, Tristan bend a little and carried Ashley in his arms, and walked toward the couch.
Carefully placing Ashley on the soft cushion, Tristan tucked her shirt a little up and looked at her small swollen belly. It was so small that anyone could barely notice but for Tristan, it was huge as he could see his child grow into her womb.
"Hey buddy, how are you doing? Did you get hurt today?" Tristan started to talk with his child just like he always did, asking him if he was alright.
Tristan just wanted to develop a bond with his child just like he had already made with his mother, naturally.
Ashley on the other hand could only admire him sweetly talking with her flat stomach every time. She wondered if Tristan’s instincts turned right and if they happened to have a boy, would he be Mama’s boy or Dad’s champ?
While the couple was having their family time, Tristan’s phone suddenly rang and he sneered because of the disturbance.
"I think you should answer the call. What if it’s important" Ashley suggested when she noticed how displeased Tristan was by the sudden call.
Tristan rolled his eyes, still not ready to leave her side but when she gave him a puppy look that’s when he pulled himself back and got up, heading towards the study table.
The moment he reached his hand to pick up the cell phone, his eyes then looked at the caller’s name and Tristan’s eyes turned dark the next instant. "It’s Jack" he muttered as he looked at Ashley and watched her straighten up and then answered the call turning the speaker on.
"What is it, Jack?" Tristan’s deadpan voice dropped the air around them with his eyes intensely looking in Ashley’s direction.
"Boss, we found the man" came his response
