Chapter 273: Nightmare return

"You seem to be enjoying your stay here grandpa" Ashley chuckled playfully at Dante’s sullen face when in reality it was otherwise.

"He definitely is, if not my staff wouldn’t have been having a hard time taking care of this old man" Matt commented lazily peeking through the reports in his hand and watching Dante shot a glare at him.

"That’s because they don’t understand what I say. Matt, you seriously need to change your staff. See what they have done to my hand. Do they even know how to inject a syringe" Dante’s expression changed from sullen to pity as he showed the bruise on his skin to both Ashley and Matt.

"That happened because you kept whining like a child. And don’t you doubt my staff old man, they are the best unlike the one who keeps causing trouble to them" Matt knew Dante would keep ranting because he was getting bored and wanted to get home as soon as possible.

Ashley on the other hand was enjoying two friends arguing with each other. They were openly targeting without holding back their tongue and that made her smile.

"Okay now stop you both" even though he loved listening to their banter, still she can’t let them continue arguing.

On the loud yelp, both Dante and Matt snap their eyes on the girl who was giving them a sharp glare and immediately shut their mouths.

Watching them turn silent, Ashley smiled internally." Good." she said.

Ashley then turned to face Dante and said," Grandpa, you can’t cause trouble to the staff. You know your grandson will end up firing them" she stated the fact.

Tristan will never bat an eye and end up taking away their jobs if he happens to find that his grandfather was having difficulties in staying here.

"See, even this young girl understood, but you tsk tsk" Matt shook his head in displease.

Dante pouted his lips, as he pondered on Ashley’s words and agreed. He knows, whatever she said was the truth, and if Tristan happens to learn it, he would definitely give those poor people hard time.

Bobbing his head in understanding, Dante agreed." But I won’t be staying a single day more once my surgery is done" he stated keeping his chin high like a proud man.

Both Ashley and Matt agreed to his condition. Matt then excused himself, while Dante and Ashley spend some time chatting together. She made him promise that after his recovery, he wouldn’t stay a single day away from them and would return as soon as possible. Dante gladly accepted it because he too couldn’t spend too many days away from his family.

After the heated morning session, Noah and Alice took a bath together and stepped out of the house heading to the supermarket. They had called their friends over, so Alice came up with the idea of preparing the dinner for tonight.

Stepping inside, Noah pulled the cart along following Alice from behind, while she roamed her eyes on the shelf looking for the mentioned ingredients on the list in her hand.

She had made a list of all the stuff she had to get, just so they wouldn’t have to think much before getting anything.

While they were busy filling their cart, Alice didn’t fail to notice the eyes that kept gawking at Noah. She could see it from the corner of her eye. Even with his casual wear, he stood out. She can’t wipe off the charm on his face.

Heaving out a deep breath, she shook her head as she chooses to ignore them and continue with the shopping.

Alice was so engrossed in her work that she kept heading ahead leaving Noah behind. Standing in front of the huge rack, she raised her head and reached her hand at the tuna cans that were placed at the top.

"Ah!" stretching her hand she tried to get one of the cans but failed. After many failed attempts, she this time tried to jump when someone walked from behind and picked up the can, and passed it to her.

"Here you go lady" Alice froze on her spot when she heard the person’s voice.

Her hand lifted up started to tremble as she slowly turned around and her eyes saw the person who just helped her.

Alice felt the floor under her feet slip away and she stumbled back in fear.

"Brooke..." her voice slowly died as she watched the man pass her an evil grin.

Memories from that night came rushing through her mind and her entire body broke into a sweat. She thought, she would never come to see him again but-

She kept taking steps back while she eyes his evil face with complete shock, she then heard a voice that called her from behind.

"Alice"

Her eyes grew wide, as she watched Noah approach her with a content smile and she quickly turned around only to find the place behind her empty.

"You left me behind" Noah complained pulling her attention back towards him.

Noah watched her startled face and then moved his eyes behind her where she just look a few seconds ago.

"You were too slow to catch up" Alice senses the alertness in his gaze and quickly answered breaking his attention.

She forced a smile hiding the fatigue all over her face and turned to the other side as she tried to calm her wildly beating heart.

’Was it all her imagination?’ she thought. But the voice and the closeness she felt wasn’t something she could hallucinate. Shutting her eyes close she tried to brush off that creepy feeling from her heart and raised her head saying," Can you help me get those tuna cans" she tried to keep her tone normal hoping Noah wouldn’t find anything suspicious.

Noah kept observing Alice for some time but didn’t voice his thoughts and stretched his arm before getting a few tuna cans and keeping them inside the cart. He had this feeling that something was disturbing Alice, but he choose not to force her and rather wait for her to speak.

Once they were done with the shopping, the couple returned home with Alice excusing herself to the kitchen. Keeping the bags on the kitchen table she quickly poured a glass of water for herself and gulped it down in one go.

She just couldn’t erase those lustful eyes that kept gawking at her like a hungry beast. She still felt shivers whenever she would remember that unfortunate night when she almost lost her innocence to those predators.

Alice was so engrossed in her thoughts that she failed to notice Noah, who walked in and saw her standing next to the kitchen table absentmindedly.

"Babe, do you need my help" he purposely raised his voice snapping her out of the trace, and watched her look at him in a daze.

Stretching a smile, he then walked to her and started taking out the ingredients from the shopping bag and kept them on the table.

Alice stared at Noah and thought,’ Should I tell him that I saw Brook at the supermarket’ but then she stopped thinking what if she might be imagining him because after roaming everywhere she didn’t see him anywhere?

’I think it was just my hallucination’ declaring to herself, she quickly changed her mood and started helping
