Chapter 267: Disable

After Grace managed to convince Tristan, he allowed them to leave for Country X once Dante had successful surgery but on one condition and that was to return once the old man was healed.

He understood why Dante would come up with such a request and there was nothing he could do to change his mind. He could only agree, but partially and his grandfather won’t be able to retreat from it.

Once he returned to the room he saw Ashley sitting in the same place. The second she sensed his presence, Ashley quickly stood up and rushed to him.

"What did they say?" she asked nervously.

Ashley never wanted to eavesdrop on their conversation but she happened to. And after whatever she heard, she felt very sad. They were deciding to move away from them and that broke her heart.

"It’s grandpa’s request to spend his time in Corner mansion. He just wants to feel close to grandma Serra’s memories at the time of his recuperation and both mom and dad couldn’t disappoint him" he said and watched her calm down a little.

The uneasiness Ashley was feeling the entire time vanished as she finally understood why Dante wanted to be at his place.

"Mom and Dad assured me they would return once grandpa was fine" he further stated.

Ashley didn’t question him any further and agreed to their decision. Tristan then went to take a shower and they both had their dinner together.

Brown mansion

Finishing the work, Tori returned to her quarter and lay on the bed. The entire day was quite a busy one for her since Piper was off duty. She had a mild fever so she asked Tori to take care of the kitchen for today.

Jolting up from the bed, Tori sat remembering something," Should I go and check Piper" she mumbled and quickly climb down the bed rushing to Piper’s room.

Clutching the doorknob, she opened the door and found the lady sleeping on her bed. Her eyes observed the sleeping figure and they darken the next instant.

Marching towards the bed, Tori saw Piper shiver in her sleep. Turning on the table lamp next to her bedside table, she sat next to Piper and saw her face full of sweat buds.

Worried she reached her hand and shook Piper from her sleep." Piper, what’s wrong with you?" she asked anxiously.

The lady was in so bad condition that she wasn’t even able to react. If she had the slightest idea that Piper was so much in pain, she would have informed their Master about it.

As if, Tori’s voice reached Piper, the lady slowly opened her eyes and saw a beautiful face in front of her. The pain that appeared on her face seconds ago was replaced with a content smile.

"T-tori" Piper mumbled and reached to hold Tori’s hand.

Tori was shocked to find Piper’s hand as cold as ice. She said to have a fever then how come her hands were cold, she thought, her eyes surprisingly staring at the old woman.

Piper opened her mouth to speak when her eye caught the sight of a person emerging from Tori’s back and she gaped in horror.

She tried to speak but then she noticed the corner of her lips slide down as if she was suffering from a stroke. Alarmed by her reaction Tori snapped turned her head behind her and saw Max.

"Max..." she heaved in disbelief as she watched him stare at Piper with blank eyes.

"What did you do to her?" she snapped getting up from the bed and sprinted toward the man in fury. She held his collar making him look at her but he didn’t pay attention to her yelling and kept observing the woman on the bed.

Piper was whimpering in pain, feeling her body slowly getting immobilized. Her eyes stared at the deadpan face of the man whom Tori was yelling at and the sound of her whimpering died as she lay on the bed paralyzed.

Blowing the corner of her mouth she huffed trying to catch their attention.

"Paralyze," he said moving his eyes from Piper to Tori. Jerking her hands off the collar he walked towards the lady on the bed.

Kneeling next to her bed, he faced her and watch the lady drool as she couldn’t speak and smiled evilly.

"You shouldn’t have tried to double-cross us, Piper. You thought your act wouldn’t get caught in the camera"

Tori turned around listening to his words, and creased her brow asking," What are you talking Max"

"She wrote a letter to Richard informing him about the illegal things that are happening around the mansion" he pulled out the letter from his jacket and gave it to her.

Tori was shocked when she read the letter. Looking at the woman in disbelief she mumbled," Why..."

Piper wanted to speak but she felt helpless. She thought if she acted carefully everything would run smoothly and she would be able to let them all get caught.

But everything backfired when this man name Max injected her with some drug that made her lose her entire strength, disabling her body mercilessly.

Max had started to notice some suspicious acts of Piper but when Tori assure him that it was nothing like he assumed he dropped the idea of doubting her but when he saw her entering Richard’s room with a letter in her hand, all his doubts were confirmed.

Piper forgot to notice mini chip-like cameras placed in every flower vase inside the house and thought her actions wouldn’t be captured. But that was her mistake and now cursed herself for her negligence.

A tear rolled down from the corner of her eyes as she watched Tori’s defeated expression but she quickly composed and crumbed the letter in her hand.

Tori was yet to accept that Piper fooled her with her kindness. The talks they had in their spare time felt so genuine and it was hard to believe that Piper would do something like that.

She didn’t dare to look at the woman and kept her eyes on Max and heard him say," You know what you have to do" he said. His voice was cold and indifferent void of any emotion.

Tori bobbed her head and watched him walk towards the window as he jumped out before roaming his eyes on the surrounding.
