Chapter 164: Suspicious

"You will have to keep coming every once in a while, so I will be kept updated on your condition," Matt said plainly and got up to leave before his stubborn friend threw a fit at him.

"Where do you think you are going, Matt? You said it would be just once a month then, how can you say I will have to come here often? You tricked me, you lousy old man."

Dante wanted to throw something at him, but his situation was so tight that he couldn’t even move roughly.

Taking advantage of his condition Matt walked towards the door and opened it before he turned back to see the older man sulking on the bed.

"I knew you wouldn’t listen to me, so I had to lie to you. I won’t say sorry because I want my friend to stay alive and not leave me behind. I will be too lonely not to have the person I like to annoy" Matt smirked before he turned and walked out of the room.

Dante could only watch the man leave. He just walked out, leaving him in a difficult situation. It was difficult to lie to Grace to hide his illness; now, this brainless man put him into another problematic situation.

"Huh...I will get back to you, Matt. Let me feel better. I will surely make you pay," he whined grumpily, lying on the bed and closing his eyes, and soon fell asleep.

Tristan returned home after discussing the details with Karl and Noah. He trusted Noah with this because he knew how to befriend any woman with his sweet, sugary words, and it wouldn’t take long to trap Natalie in his sweet words of a lie.

He entered the room and was about to head to his bedroom when his phone pinged. Pulling it out of his pocket, he saw a text from Ashley asking him to come to the pavilion.

His lips curled into a smile, and he turned, heading to the pavilion built on the west side of the mansion.

Once he reached there, his eyes caught the sight of his beautiful wife sitting on the chair as she looked around the vast lawn.

He promised her to return soon as he wanted to have brunch with her. He was on leave as Ashley wanted to spend some time with him. He couldn’t ignore her words because he wanted the same.

Ashley was so immersed at the moment that she didn’t realise when Tristan came and stood behind her chair. She only sensed it when he touched her cheeks, breaking her trance.

"You are so beautiful," he said, pulling away and watching her turn to see him.

Ashley’s eyes brightened as a smile formed on her lips, and she said," That was quick. I thought you would be late."

Tristan left the house in haste but asked her to wait for him as he would be quick with his work. She thought maybe it was some emergency so he wouldn’t return this early, but she was wrong. He finished his career in less than an hour and returned to her as promised.

"You know I am truthful to my words," he said and sat on the chair next to hers.

Holding her hand, he caressed the back of her palm with his thumb and asked," What were you looking at" he then turned his head to where she was busy staring before he came here.

Ashley followed his gaze and said," Nothing specific. I was just thinking about how long it took for our paths to cross. I would have seen my life differently if I had met you."

Tristan smiled, bringing her hand close to his lips, and kissed it. Yes, they got together a little late, but it was only because she had Greg in her life back then.

The day he first saw her, Tristan had the urge to know her as a person, and when he asked Karl to find out about her, he learned about her being with Greg. He had to stop knowing the girl he was trying to reach because she couldn’t be his.

He tried to avert his mind from her, but whenever he saw her with Greg, he would feel his blood boil in jealousy. He wished to be that man who she would smile looking at. He wanted to see that love in her eyes for him.

That was when he realised that he had already fallen for her, and he couldn’t stop himself from thinking of anything apart from her. She had captured his mind and heart, and he always prayed that, somehow, she would break up with Greg.

He knew he was selfish, but he couldn’t stop being one. He had lost his heart for her and couldn’t let anyone take that place.

"I am glad we met, or else I didn’t know what would’ve happened to me if you had married Greg. I am always grateful that you found out about Greg’s affair and that exposure led you to me" he smiled, feeling happy that his fear didn’t turn real or else he would’ve lost her forever.

Ashley smiled, listening to his heartfelt confession but stopped when she remembered how he knew she had caught Greg that day because, apart from her father and Alice, she never spoke to anyone about it.

"How... did you know I had caught Greg cheating on me that day. I remember I never talked with you about it" Ashley looked suspiciously, narrowing her eyes at him.

"Ahem... I... I happened... to find it from your dad," he lied.

Ashley had no clue about him stalking her for almost a year and a half. He followed her at every shooting spot to see her secretly. He had changed entirely, which made him look like a fool.

She looked at him for a while, clearly catching the lie in his words, but she decided not to speak about it. She had ways to find out about it from anyone.

Tristan didn’t dare to look her way and asked the maid to set the food for them. He didn’t want his secret to come out, or he would be left embarrassed in front of her.

Soon the brunch was placed in front of the couple, and without wasting any time further, they began savouring it.

"Do you want to go somewhere out?" Tristan asked.

Since he had decided to spend time with her, he wanted to make the most of it. It was rare for him to enjoy a day without doing any work, and now that he had one, why not relish it?

Ashley thought for a while before she nodded her head," How about we go to an amusement park and then watch a movie."

"That sounds perfect", Tristan agreed to her, and they quickly finished eating the food before they left.

After selecting a perfect plan for Noah, Karl went to pick Gwen up from his house, as she was still asleep when Tristan called him.

As soon as he entered the house, he was expecting to see Gwen around but the pin drop silence was the sign that she wasn’t up yet.

He then walked to his room and entered in only to find the bed neatly arranged. Just when he was about to call Gwen he heard the clicking sound of the bathroom door opening and Gwen stepped out with a towel wrapped around her body.

’What the hell. Is she planning to give me blue ball’ Karl told to himself and gulped as he watched stare at him.
