Chapter 81: Tax (II)

Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Tax (II)

"W-what are you talking about? I’ve always been rule-abiding! Besides, there is no way you can have all my company’s financial records. It’s all classified!" Roger shouted as he started to get anxious. He wasn’t sure if Alex was just trying to scare him, or if he truly had all the financial reports that were supposed to be classified.

"Just like how your son stole the classified document from Eve’s agency, I can also do the same to yours," Alex said. "What if I tell you that I have ALL the reports needed to be sent to the tax bureau? They’ll have a field day with this, haha!"

"Y-you’re lying! All of my subordinates are trustworthy! I know you’re just baffling!" Roger yelled at Alex, but the latter still kept his cool.

"There is nothing I can’t buy in this world, including anyone’s loyalty. Be it with money or with something else, I will always get what I want, Uncle," Alex said arrogantly. "Maybe you should inspect them one by one, or you can fire and replace them all. I’m sure it will be a fun time knowing that none of your ’trusted’ subordinates are trustworthy anymore."

"And even if you replace all of them, do you think I can’t just buy the rest of them?" Alex tormented his uncle, knowing full well that he had the upper hand.

He didn’t like stomping on ants unless it was necessary. Working ants were still useful for many things.

But since one of them dared to act up, he had to make sure they knew who was the real patriarch of the Langford family.

Roger’s back started excreting cold sweat. Alex always had his way of deceiving everyone in the family, but this felt so real that Roger began to wonder if he truly had those documents.

"Don’t play around with me, Alex. If you dare to leak those, then I will—"

"Will you tell my father, so he will scold me?" Alex scoffed. "And what would happen after that? At most, he’d give me a good scolding that I’d just ignore as usual. But you... your company will be in shambles, and I doubt my father will be willing to help."

Roger looked at Nora, whose smile had also vanished. Both of them didn’t expect Alex to make a move so soon. It was very rare for him to be so hasty.

Roger muted the call quickly and asked Nora, "What should I do?! Holy crap, your son is insane!"

Nora was also as nervous as Roger. She thought hard and finally said, "T-try to play dumb and see how long he will keep pushing you."

Roger nodded and did what Nora instructed as he unmuted the call, "I don’t understand you, Alex. It was Pierre who leaked everything, and there’s no proof that I’ve been instructing him. You’re targeting the wrong person!"

Alex had finally lost his patience. His gaze darkened as he said on the call, "You can play dumb all you want, but I want that bastard Pierre to come to my mansion as soon as possible. I will give it one day before I send all of these reports to the tax bureau."

Beep.

"FUCK!" Roger cursed as he threw away his phone. He was fuming because he knew damn well that he wouldn’t be able to save his ass now. "What should I do now, Nora? Your son has all the reports of the tax evasion that I have done since 2014. Do you know how much I will have to pay with the fine? It would ruin my company!"

Nora was just as pale as Roger. She was expecting Alex to stay calm and wait for the second leak before doing something, and by that time, he would’ve been busy trying to do damage control and wouldn’t have time to suppress Roger or hunt down Pierre, because they had prepared to leak at least five classified documents at once.

They could’ve done that now, but it was far too risky if they leaked five documents at once. Who knew if Alex would actually destroy Roger’s company in retaliation?

Roger looked at Nora apologetically. He clenched the blanket as he said, "Nora, I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can continue with our original plan. It’s not possible anymore when Alex threatens to destroy my company in one fell swoop."

If Nora could be honest right now, she wanted to smack this bastard in the head for daring to say such a thing. She slept with this fat man just to make sure he’d do anything, including ruining the relationship between Alex and Evelyn.

But if she said that, Nora knew that Roger would back off instantly and pretend they never had anything between them.

Nora knew well that Roger was still a crooked bastard who had no feeling for her except lust. He was the worst of the worst.

Thus, Nora decided to stay civil and muttered, "It’s such a pity. I was thinking that maybe we could be together forever after we kick Evelyn out of my son’s life. But it seems that it can’t be helped."

"W-what do you mean it can’t be helped? You told me that you’ll stay with me for now," Roger asked nervously.

"I wish to do that, but I desperately need to kick that whore’s daughter out of my son’s life, or else she will turn into a sticky parasite that refuses to leave," Nora shrugged. "I have been thinking about finding another man who can help me. As much as I love you, I don’t want to waste my time, Roger."

Roger felt a sense of urgency in his heart.

He might not be a good person, but he had been attracted to Nora ever since he met her for the first time. At that time, Nora was still putting on a good show with Hugh, acting like a good wife, while Roger was engaged to Natasha Langford. Even back then, he had been fantasizing about Nora.
