Chapter 72: Chapter 72: A Female Zombie (II)
She was confused about why Julia was so accepting of her mockery and accusation about Evelyn. It felt like she was punching a cotton pillow.
Nora had been observing Evelyn for a long time and knew that she had a lot of fight in her. Evelyn seemed to be the type of woman who would fight tooth and nail just to get her point across, so she expected Julia to at least argue a little with her.
’Well, this is no fun. She’s like a defenseless zombie,’ Nora thought. She thought that she could intimidate Julia into submission, but since this woman did not fight her, she might as well say what she had to say, "Listen, I set up this meeting between us to make sure that we’re on the same page. I don’t want her around my son any longer, got that?"
"Of course, I also think the same," Julia replied with a deep smile. "I think she’s better in Seattle, working in that brothel just like I did."
"Glad that we’re on the same page then. Since you’ve been working on babying Roger’s son, I will give you a better job in the future, with a nice pay, of course," Nora said. "But for now, just continue babying him, that stupid wimp is a good scapegoat for all of our plans."
"Sure, Madam. I’m up for any plan from you," Julia nodded. "Though, I’m wondering. How come you’ve only started making trouble now? I thought you’d been observing Evelyn and your son for a long time."
"Honestly, I don’t care at first, since my son can do whatever as long as he maintains his status as the heir of the Langford family. However, now I see that he’s on the brink of losing his status just because he can’t let go of your daughter," Nora replied. "Other than that, he needs to fulfill his promise to marry a girl I have prepared. She’s young, energetic, and in love with him! Oh, it is a mother’s joy to be able to pick the right spouse for your son!"
Julia saw the light in Nora’s eyes. She was genuinely excited about the idea of picking the right partner for her son, but it wasn’t out of pure love for her son, it was more like a dominating thing to have her son under control.
Julia guessed this must be a habit of people with affluent families and wealth spanning generations.
She would never think about picking a good man for Evelyn to marry. If possible, she wanted Evelyn to become the mistress of a rich, old crook and stay as a pet for the rest of her life.
A whore needed to stay as a whore. It was unfair that only Julia suffered throughout her life while her daughter seemed to have a glorious life now.
"So, should we wait for a week until Pierre releases another leaked document? I thought it’d be better to keep releasing one by one every day to pressure Eve," Julia tilted her head.
"No, that’s not possible. My son already covers the cost of financial damage caused by the leak. He stormed into the office yesterday and punched his uncle in the stomach," Nora sighed. "Alex is quite patient when dealing with his family, but if we push him too much, he might start retaliating, and none of us can handle him when he’s truly enraged. Not even his father can control him."
"I see," Julia wanted to scoff when she heard that. She knew that man must’ve loved Eve so much, at least before he got bored and eventually moved on.
If Julia was in Nora’s shoes right now, what she would do wasn’t to intimidate Eve, but to persuade her to leave Alex out of her own volition. There were thousands of ways to do that with all of their resources and connections.
’And Alexander Langford will hate Eve for leaving him at his lowest. It’s so easy to break them apart with all their connections and money,’ Julia thought. ’It’s a pity, they have so much, yet they lack the brain to execute such a simple task.’
Julia knew their ego, so she couldn’t influence Nora, Roger, or whoever rich people that wasn’t her client to execute all of her plans step by step.
’At most, I can influence Pierre, but other than stealing documents from Eve’s office, what else can he do except be the scapegoat?’
Julia sighed.
It was annoying that she had to play a long game just to drag her daughter into an abyss called prostitution, but it was quite fun knowing that everyone wanted her daughter to fall.
’See? Nobody is on your side, Evelyn. By the time Alex ditches you, you will be truly alone, just like me,’ Julia thought.
Nora had been observing the strange woman in front of her for a while and was creeped out when Julia suddenly grinned without saying anything.
"How about you? Why didn’t you try to separate them years ago?" Nora threw the question back at Julia.
Julia’s grin widened until it turned into an ear-to-ear smirk, "Me? That’s because I’ve just been discharged from the mental hospital three months ago."
Nora held her breath. She knew this woman was a drug addict, because Nora was one too, and she knew the signs of an addict.
But she didn’t expect Julia to be a mental hospital patient as well, "And what are you admitted for?"
"I don’t know either. My daughter just signed something behind my back, and they suddenly put me in a mental hospital. She left me there for a decade, and lived a glamorous life," Julia shrugged. "Oh well, it’s in the past, and I’m ready to move on and let go. I’ve always been physically and mentally healthy anyway."
"... Are you though?" Nora asked, full of doubt.
"I won’t be discharged out of that mental hospital if I’m not sane, right?" Julia giggled. "Don’t worry, Madam Langford. I am here because I want to take my daughter back with me, nothing more, nothing less."
