Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Meeting with Daddy’s Boy (I)
Eve finished work earlier today. Ever since Alex had paid for the financial damage, she returned to her original schedule and was able to clock out before five.
She could clock out anytime as the CEO, but she still had to set a proper example for her employees.
Eve entered the Bentley that had become her daily driver now. Alex had a lot of cars she could pick, but she decided to stick with this one because truthfully, it was the dream car inside her journal back then.
’Once I’ve saved enough money, I guess I can buy this Bentley from him. Our contract won’t last forever, and I’ll have to leave eventually,’ Eve thought as she caressed the steering wheel. ’Do I even have enough savings to buy this at its full price anyway? It’s a limited edition after all.’
Eve sighed.
She felt sad whenever she thought that everything between them was temporary. But in the end, she knew that everything was but a beautiful illusion, as it was difficult for Eve to trust Alex completely.
She patted her flat belly, and pondered how long would it take for her to get pregnant, or if she had to do it again with Alex over and over until she got pregnant eventually.
Nevertheless, she just wished that her body could forget him once she left.
’How long would it take for me to forget about you, Alex? I’ve tried my best to forget about you for two years, and I still can’t,’ Eve thought. ’And now that we’re getting back together, it will be even harder to forget about you.’
Eve drove the car out of the office parking lot and through Los Angeles traffic. She suddenly got a call during a red light, so she checked the caller ID and frowned instantly when she saw it was Pierre.
She forgot to block him after confronting him on the phone yesterday. She was about to reject the call and block him again but then remembered the engagement ring in her bag.
After Pierre betrayed her, she took off her engagement ring and put it inside her bag like other miscellaneous items inside a woman’s handbag. She quickly forgot about that ring the moment Alex walked into her life... until now.
’Right, I ought to return the ring to him,’ Eve thought. Thus, she decided to accept the call. She was also curious about what he would do next after leaking her client’s confidential document.
Pierre still had many confidential documents at his disposal right now, so she wasn’t safe yet just because she managed to get away with the last leak.
—
"I didn’t expect you still have the guts to call me after almost ruining my life," Eve said coldly right after she picked up the call. "So, what do you want to do now? Are you going to threaten me again?"
...
There was a long silence on the other side of the call. Eve assumed this must’ve been her mother speaking, just like yesterday, but before Eve called her mother out for using Pierre’s phone, a male voice suddenly came on the speaker.
"H-hello, Eve..."
Eve was genuinely surprised when she heard Pierre’s voice. She shut her mouth after that, waiting for Pierre to say something. "I... I have something to talk about with you. Are you free to meet with me somewhere? I don’t mind meeting in a restaurant or a cafe."
Eve was astonished by this man’s shamelessness. He still had the guts to ask her to meet somewhere casually, as if he wasn’t a threat to her whole career.
"It’s important, I promise," Pierre added.
...
"Go to our usual restaurant right now. This is your last chance to ever explain yourself to me, Pierre."
"I-I will be there—"
Beep.
—
Eve saw the light had turned green, and instead of turning left, she drove straight to the restaurant where they had dinner whenever Eve was too tired to cook.
She didn’t have a good memory of this restaurant, because it reminded her of how many times she had to pay for their dinner.
She had to pay for almost everything when she dated Pierre, because that man, despite his status as Roger Dust’s son, was broke most of the time.
’Hah, of course, he’s broke most of the time. He keeps getting into that crypto investment and dumps all of his money. What am I expecting anyway?’ Eve rolled her eyes as she parked her car at the side of the road and entered the restaurant.
She sat in her usual spot near the window, waiting for that bastard to come.
She ordered a coffee for herself, and as she was waiting for Pierre to come, she suddenly got a text from Alex.
—
Where are you? Are you done with work today?
I’m quite hungry.
—
Eve smiled.
That’s right, it was her turn to cook dinner. So she texted him;
—
I’ll be home soon.
The traffic is bad.
—
Honestly, Eve didn’t know if she should lie or tell Alex the truth. She was about to meet with Pierre out of her curiosity. In addition, she had to return the engagement ring to him.
If she told him the truth, she was 100% sure that Alex would crash into the restaurant. He was still a celebrity in the end, so he would attract everyone’s attention.
One thing that Eve didn’t want was unnecessary attention, and she surely didn’t want to be caught red-handed by the paparazzi with Alex.
It would be a stain in his career, and also hers.
Since they weren’t a real item, to begin with.
Hence, she thought it was better to lie for now, so Alex wouldn’t need to worry.
’Besides, there’s no point in trying to explain this to him. Since he’d think that I haven’t moved on or something,’ Eve shrugged as she sipped her coffee.
Meanwhile, someone had been watching her from the building across the restaurant and sneered when he got the text.
"Traffic, huh? Let’s see how long this traffic will hold you, Sweetheart."
