"What the fuck was he thinking? A mistress? Evelyn as my mistress?!" Alex raged as he ignored everyone and went straight to his car. The more he repeated the word ’mistress’, the angrier he got.

If there was a timeline in this world where he had to take Evelyn as a mistress rather than a wife, then he would rather never marry for the rest of his life.

Julia smiled thinly as a response. She wasn’t angry at this woman, since she was used to being mocked for her situation. She was quite interested in her method instead. Nora Langford was obviously a dominant monster—the type of person who would do anything to assert her dominance over others, including her own family.

For Nora to put a bodyguard in here just to watch over Julia, and intentionally let her wait for an hour before showing up, was a clear show to Julia who would be the boss in this soon-to-be alliance.

Nora sat facing Julia, she observed her from head to toe, and commented, "I see that wench got her look from you. It’s quite unsettling seeing how similar you two look."

"My daughter hates it when someone says she looks like me," Julia replied. "But yes, she and I share many similarities."

"In personality as well?" Nora asked. "Because she looks like someone who would put aside her dignity just to be a gold digger."

"Yes, that too," Julia agreed. "We’re very much alike. The only difference between us is our age and our job."

"You mean, a job that my son supplements?" Nora smiled. "Let’s be real here, there is no way that a woman born out of your night shift will be able to set up a successful business without any help. I’m pretty sure my son has been using all of his money and connections to help her company."

Despite wanting her daughter to return to her roots, Julia knew that Evelyn was actually very capable. She had always been independent since she was young, as Julia left her alone in the house while she worked in the brothel almost every day since she was five or six.

In addition, Eve was a valedictorian in high school and got a full scholarship to an Ivy League university.

Thus, Julia sincerely believed that Eve would succeed with or without help from Alexander Langford, simply because she had all it took to be a successful career woman; smart, disciplined, and beautiful.

But of course, none of this would be aligned with the narrative Nora was talking about. She seemed to fully believe that Evelyn was just a whore who used her beauty to seduce Alex and used him for his money, status, and connection.

Keeping a smile on her face, Julia replied, "Indeed, I’m pretty sure my daughter has been using your son all this time. She’s my daughter, after all, she can’t be a successful woman."

Nora went silent after that.

For some reason, she felt uncomfortable in front of this woman, and even more uncomfortable when staring at her.

Nora had a lot of experience in life, and Julia’s eyes felt very empty as if she truly had nothing else to look up to in this world. She was akin to a zombie, walking around to spread disease while waiting to rot.
