Chapter 65: In the Same Bed (I)

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: In the Same Bed (I)

Eve took a long shower at night before sleep. She felt strangely nervous, even though she didn’t plan to seduce Alex like she did the previous night.

Nevertheless, this would be the first time in two years that she would consciously allow Alex to sleep on her bed, staring at each other’s eyes as they drifted off to sleep, while sharing their warmth.

They might even hug to sleep, and she would allow him to spoon her from behind.

Eve’s body slowly heated up under the shower, as she had some strange expectations of what would come next.

’Remember, Eve, no sex,’ Eve reminded herself as she walked out of the bathroom wearing her bathrobe.

She checked on her wardrobe and pondered on what she should wear tonight.

Usually, she’d just wear her loose pajamas to sleep, but today was a little special after all.

Eve saw the special lingerie she would use for a sexy night, neatly tucked at the corner of the wardrobe.

’Should I... use that one?’ Eve stared at the lingerie for a long time, as she was seriously considering it. Then, she snapped out of that ridiculous idea and scolded herself. ’What were you thinking, Evelyn? You were the one who told him it’s strictly just sleeping together on the same bed. Why would you try to seduce him again?!’

Thus, Eve decided to just wear her loose pajamas and rested on the bed, waiting for Alex to come at midnight... if she was still awake around that hour.

Alex was still in his study. He had no time to check on the clock because he was currently busy arguing with his father over the phone.

"You stupid son, you’ve gone insane!" Hugh Langford yelled on the call. "How could you spend so much to save that girl? Even her small agency isn’t worth that much to begin with. You’re going to make us bankrupt!"

Alex rolled his eyes when he heard that, "Stop acting like I’m using your money. I used my own money that I saved in our bank. It’s only ten million dollars anyway, even if it’s YOUR money, it wouldn’t even put a dent in our finances."

"YOU—" Hugh was speechless when arguing with his son. "You sure know how to argue, huh? Did your mother teach you to argue with me?!"

"Stop bringing her up. I don’t even want to talk about that bitch," Alex spat. His father never admitted it, but the way Hugh never tried to actively harm her, even after she was caught red-handed for cheating, proved that he had a soft spot for his wife. However, Alex never had such a thing, and would never forgive his mother for the abuses he suffered through.

Hugh’s voice softened when Alex called his mother a bitch. Hugh had a complicated relationship with her, but he still believed that Alex needed to show some respect to his mother.

"Don’t call your mother that. She’s still your mother," Hugh advised gently after scolding Alex for an hour straight.

Alex had no more energy to deal with his father, so he asked, "Is there anything else you want to talk about? It’s late, and I can’t wait to finally sleep on the same bed with her."

"You are unreasonable, Alex. That woman is a burden to you. You’ve spent ten million dollars just to bail her out, so what’s next? Will you spend all of your money on her?"

"Yes, I will," Alex replied fearlessly. "I don’t even care if I have to renounce my title as the heir of Langford estate if that would make you stop bothering me."

...

"Talk to me once you’re sober, you drunken bastard," Hugh scolded before he ended the phone call.

Beep.

Alex sighed. He leaned on his chair, looking at the ceiling as he wondered what he needed to do to feel secure enough to stay.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t just renounce his title as the heir of Langford that easily. He knew better that even if he left, his family would still try to attack him. They would never let him go.

On top of that, being the heir of a billion-dollar estate and businesses meant that he had incredible influence, enough to protect Eve from any harm. More reason to not let his title go.

"Let’s just think about that later," Alex told himself. He checked the clock and snorted, "There goes my quality time with Eve tonight. All goes down the drain because that old crook refused to stop yelling at me."

Alex left the study and walked towards Eve’s room.

He knew that she must’ve fallen asleep at this hour, as it was past midnight, and Eve was very self disciplined. So he simply walked in, only to see Eve sitting on the bed, dozing a few times but eventually still tried hard not to fall asleep.

Alex was stunned, "Eve?"

"Hm? Ah! Y-you’re finally here," Eve opened her eyes instantly.

"Were you waiting for me?" Alex asked as he approached the bed. "You know you can just sleep first without me, right?"

"W-who’s waiting for you? I was busy with work, I went to bed just now," Eve denied.

"Mhm, sure," Alex smiled as he joined her on the bed, and pulled the blanket for both of them. They lay side by side on the bed, staring at the ceiling awkwardly before Alex said, "You should sleep now. It’s already past midnight. You will get sick if you stay awake for too long."

Alex knew Eve’s habit and her weaknesses. Since she was very disciplined, she would catch the flu or at least get a headache in the morning if she didn’t sleep well enough.

"I... I just thought that it’d be unfair to you if I slept earlier. I want to make sure you have a good sleeping schedule," Eve said. "We... we’re not young anymore, Alex. We’re almost thirty. If you maintain this sleeping schedule, you’ll get sick eventually."

"But I’m not sick."

"Don’t lie to me. Do you not remember how many man flu you had back then? All because you are a permanent night owl," Eve scolded.
