Chapter 62: Chapter 62: I’m not used to this separation anymore (II)
Andrea forwarded the call to the telephone line in the CEO’s office. Eve picked up the call and used her most professional voice as she had to face William Trust again.
—
"Hello, Mr. Trust. I heard from my secretary that you want to talk to me. I thought that everything had been cleared after our meeting at noon. Is there something urgent I need to know?"
"Miss Carpenter, why didn’t you tell me that you’re under the Langfords!?" William Trust said out of anger.
Eve’s mind slowed down for a second, "Pardon?"
"I was scolded harshly by my higher-up just now because I forced you to work on two ads without getting paid. Honor company is almost screwed because you didn’t tell me earlier that you’re connected to the Langfords!"
...
"I-I’m sorry, Sir. But I don’t follow. What does Langford have to do with this?" Eve asked. "We had a deal, and I don’t mind working on two ads for compensation."
"Nonsense! How could you say that, and then get Alexander Langford to talk with our president to get this matter cleared?!" William Trust shouted. "The Langford Diamond—yes, the private bank, has paid for all the financial damage caused by this leak."
...
"Mr. Langford told the president of Honor company to apologize for pressuring you, and I am likely to get fired because of this," William had no goodwill anymore, knowing that he was screwed for messing with the wrong woman.
"A-Alex paid for everything?!"
"See? You even addressed him with his first name instead of Mr. Langford! Oh my god, Miss Carpenter, why didn’t you tell me sooner that you’re dating him?!"
...
Eve was just as shocked as William Trust.
"I... I didn’t know this would happen..."
"Well, it happened. Since Mr. Langford has paid for everything, you’re not obliged to do any extra ads for us. We’ll take what we ordered before, and pay you according to our initial contract. Good night, Miss Carpenter."
Beep.

...
...
There was a long silence in the CEO’s office as Eve tried to let the new information seep in.
Unfortunately, she had no time to do so, because her phone rang immediately, and it was none other than Mr. Langford who called her.
The moment she picked up, Alex simply said one thing before hanging up.
"Go home. If you’re not here in two hours, I’ll pick you up myself."
Eve gritted her teeth. She grabbed her bag and left the CEO’s office.
Andrea had been waiting outside anxiously, scared that her boss would have to face another dire problem. As soon as the CEO’s office door was opened, Andrea saw Miss Carpenter, who was carrying her bag.
"M-Miss, how was the call with William Trust? Is everything okay? Should we continue working?" Andrea asked while following Evelyn closely.
"Tell everyone to go home. We don’t need to work on another project for Honor company. Everything has been settled," Eve replied coldly while strutting through the corridor.
"Eh?! B-but how? Weren’t we in big trouble just a few hours ago?"
"Someone very generously decides to cover for all the financial damage. Just relay my message to all employees, I’ll leave now," Eve said as she entered the elevator. She stared at Andrea as the door was closing, and smiled menacingly, "I’m going to meet this very generous man."
Andrea gulped. She knew the identity of this generous man.
She thought Miss Carpenter would be full of joy because Alexander Langford covered for her.
’But why does she look upset now? Is it because of their history?’ Andrea pondered. ’Isn’t it better to just let bygones be bygones at this point?’

Eve sped through the Los Angeles night road as she couldn’t wait to meet with Alex.
She didn’t know what she’d do when she faced him an hour from now, but her heart felt uncomfortable. She wanted to know if Alex was doing this out of their business contract or for something else.
If it was solely because of their contract, then she also had to compensate him in one way or another, as it was all strictly business in the end, and their unspoken contract only said that he would help her fight against Pierre.
But if his kindness was out of something else, then...
Eve’s pursed her lips.
She knew that they were already teetering at the edge between their business contract and rekindled love. It was impossible to let everything be strictly business after they spent the night full of passion.
It was hard to ignore their compatibility in bed. They were simply a perfect match, and that feeling never changed, even after two years of separation.
Eve parked the Bentley in the basement parking lot and rushed to the elevator. She was expecting Alex to be sitting in the living room, waiting for her, and she was absolutely right.
The moment the elevator door was opened, Eve could see the fireplace being lit in the spacious living room, and she immediately spotted Alex lounging on the big couch next to the fireplace.
His piercing cold blue eyes stared at her unblinkingly. Even under the dimly lit light, she could still discern how unhappy he was.
Now, the question Eve had was;
Was he not happy because he had to pay an exorbitant amount of money as financial damage, or was it because of something else?
He said nothing, but his eyes told her that she had to go there and have the much-needed conversation.
Eve clenched her bag strap as she walked out of the elevator towards Alex. Once she stood in front of him, she said calmly, despite the raging storm in her heart;
"The representative of the Honor company called me at work. He said that the Langford Diamond has paid all of the financial damage. He also said that the scion—Alexander Langford—wants the CEO to personally apologize to me,"
She was anxious, scared of what they would become of them after this.
The last time they had a ’conversation’, it ended with a big argument at the dining hall.
