Alex strode out of Roger’s office with anger that he couldn’t suppress. He was expecting Pierre and Evelyn’s mother to be in the CEO’s office but didn’t expect that Roger would be accompanied by his mother instead.

Alex clenched the steering wheel.

It was difficult for him to think of anything right now, as his mind kept recalling the horrible abuses he experienced growing up.

He was also worried about Eve, as his mother had always been unpredictable.

Would she actually leave Eve alone?

Or would she try to separate them for whatever reason?

Alex knew damn well how controlling his mother was.

He was expecting his father to disagree with his choice the moment he decided to announce his relationship with Eve. He also expected him to make some trouble separating them.

With the addition of his mother in the mix, Alex began to question if he truly needed to turn the world upside down to have Eve by his side.

"I don’t mind that," Alex told himself. "But what about her? Will she stay knowing how terrible my family can be?"

Alex scoffed.

He already knew the answer, he just didn’t want to say it out loud because it would only hurt him.

"Ah... just as I thought, living on a secluded island with only the two of us for the rest of our lives is the best option," Alex chuckled as he entertained the idea. "I just have to find a way to convince her to leave everything behind."

It was his last resort plan, but for now, he wanted to meet with Eve first. He had to check on her since she must’ve been terrified today.

It was seven in the evening, and Alex had been sitting in front of the fireplace, staring at the logs that cracked as they were slowly consumed by fire.

His stomach rumbled from time to time, as he waited for Eve to return and cook him something for dinner as they took turns now.

He checked his watch for the thirtieth time, and clicked his tongue in annoyance, "Where is she? She said she’ll be back before dinner."

Alex began considering the possibility that his mother already tried to harm Eve, and grew increasingly restless.

"Argh! I can’t wait anymore!"

Alex finally grabbed his phone, and then called Eve.

It didn’t take long for Eve to pick up, and the moment their call was connected, he immediately barraged her with questions.

"Hello? Eve, are you alright? Are you hurt? Where are you right now? Were you being followed?!"

"C-calm down, Alex, I’m fine," Eve replied, a bit startled by his questions. "I’m still in the office. Uhm... probably will work past midnight."

Alex frowned, "I thought you already have everything mapped out."

"Well, yes, but I have to compensate Honor company for the leaked document."

"Didn’t I tell you that I’ll just pay for the financial damage? Just let them name their price," Alex reminded.

"It feels wrong to do that. They will demand huge financial compensation, and it might put a hole in your wallet," Eve sighed. "Don’t worry, they don’t ask for much. They simply want me to make two ads for them, so I’ll have to cram all of my projects, to make sure that everything is according to the deadline."

Alex took a deep breath.

He knew that Eve was a hard worker, and wouldn’t mind cramping all of her schedules to meet the deadline.

But this would be torturous for him because he wanted to spend every night with Eve no matter what.

Alex tried to be patient and reason with her, "How long would it take for you to finish all the deadlines?"

"Mm... probably around three months, then I can return to my regular schedule."

"THREE MONTHS?!"

Alex almost exploded when he heard that. There was no goddamn way he’d be able to survive the cold winter night all alone for three months straight.

"Yeah, so mm... I’ll be very busy. I think I’ll just stay in the hotel next to the office for now, or go back to my old apartment. Driving from your mansion to the office takes too long," Eve doubled it down.

Alex’s mind was blown instantly.

At first, he thought that he could’ve just endured the nights. But after knowing that he’d be separated from his beloved for three months straight, he had made up his mind.

Eve felt sorry for Alex. Three months was a long time, so she tried to coax him, "I should have some free time after three months. I’m doing this just to compensate for the leaked document, nothing else."

"And what if Pierre leaked another one?"

"... Then I’ll have to work nonstop for the next six months or so," Eve replied softly.

Beep.

"Hello? Alex?" Eve was surprised when Alex suddenly hung up the call. She sighed and put her phone on the desk as she busied herself to check the upcoming projects.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t do much about this problem, because she’d rather work herself to the bone than to ask Alex to cover for an enormous financial compensation.

"Maybe I should video call him from time to time," Eve muttered, but her eyes were still glued to the screen. She saw the crazy amount of work she had to do and smiled bitterly, "Or not. I don’t even have time to rest right now, let alone to talk with him about random stuff."

Eve continued to work two more hours before Andrea knocked on her door and entered before Eve could even tell her to come in, "Miss! There is an urgent call from Mr. William Trust. He demands to speak with you immediately!"

Eve’s eyes widened.

A sense of anxiety immediately assaulted her. She had a bad feeling about this and was afraid Honor would change their mind after a board meeting and demand compensation.

"Is this about the leaked document?" Eve asked.

"Yes! Uhm, he sounds angry, and demands to talk to you immediately."

Eve took a deep breath to calm herself. No matter what, she had to be prepared for the worst.

"Connect the call to my line. I’ll talk to him."
