Chapter 59: The Bitch (I)

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: The Bitch (I)

Again, it didn’t take long for Alex to pick up the call as if his phone was always in his hand, or maybe he had been waiting for her call the whole time.

Eve surely wished the second option was the real answer.

"Yes, Sweetheart?"

Alex’s voice sounded as calm as usual, but Eve knew he was everything but calm. There was a heavy tone in his voice as if he was holding back a lot of anger right now.

She also heard his footsteps and a few commotion outside, so she guessed that he already left the mansion at this point and was probably about to confront Roger or Pierre.

"Are you busy? I... uh... I just want to talk for a second."

There was a pause from the other side, before Alex asked, "What happened? Did the company threaten you? Let me have a bit of a talk with the representative."

"N-no, I’ve handled everything well enough. It’s all good now, and the representative of the Honor company was satisfied with the compensation I offered," Eve replied.

"Really? Are you sure you don’t need my help?"

"Mm... not for now," Eve replied. "But I have to thank you."

"I... haven’t done anything to deserve your praise, Eve. I messed up. I didn’t expect that Pierre would be stupid enough to leak the document," Alex admitted. His voice lowered as he was ashamed of his oversight.

Eve opened her mouth. She wanted to say that Alex helped her by being on call. His voice was enough to give her clarity so she could tackle a big hurdle before her.

It reminded Eve of the time they were still together, and how they gained comfort by listening to each other’s voice.

But knowing how troubled he seemed right now, all she said was, "No need to feel burdened."

...

"I’ll fix this soon, don’t worry," Alex stated firmly.

Eve listened to how remorseful Alex sounded. Though she hated him for lying about everything, Eve could immediately tell whenever Alex felt disappointed in himself, and this was one of those rare times.

Back when Alex still had his fake persona, whenever he was in a bad mood, he would apologize to her repeatedly, stating that he was unable to be a great man for her, or that he was unable to fulfill his duty as her man.

Eve didn’t really understand what was all that about, since she believed that Alex had done enough for her, so she simply allowed him to rest his head on her lap, and feed him with snacks to make him feel better.

’Maybe I should do that later. He seems upset, so...’ Eve pondered. But before she could entertain that thought, Alex suddenly said;

"I’ll talk to you later, okay? I... have to teach those bastards a lesson for messing with us."

Beep.

Eve sighed.

She was 100% sure that Alex was inside Roger Dust’s office right now since that was the only place Pierre could use to hide from Alex. She knew it wouldn’t be pretty, but she believed that Alex could handle the problem just fine.

"You protected and helped me behind my back for five years straight. This shouldn’t be much for you, right... babe?"

**

Alex stood in front of the door leading to the Redbox Inc’s CEO’s office. His gaze darkened as he emanated a murderous aura that terrified the secretary behind him.

The moment he heard that Eve was in trouble, he knew he had to teach his uncle, Roger Dust, a lesson.

Pierre was too much of a wimp to do anything, so he was definitely getting steered by his father.

’Have I been so lenient these days that they don’t fear me anymore?’

That question popped up in his mind. He was angry and ashamed of himself. All that promises to keep her safe as long as Eve was willing to bear his child, and he couldn’t even keep his promise.

’What is the point of taking control over your dad’s power, when you can’t even protect your own beloved, Alexander Langford?’ Alex told himself. ’You’re a joke.’

With that, Alex kicked the door open, surprising everyone inside the CEO’s office.

Alex swaggered into the office and was also caught off guard after seeing two people sitting on the sofa.

It was, of course, Roger Dust, his fat and greedy uncle.

But sitting next to him was none other than the bane of his life.

The monster who ruined his family, and the bitch that Alex always referred to whenever he talked to Eve about his background.

"YOU—!"

The middle-aged woman smiled at Alex and said, "Long time no see, Alex."

Alex felt that his world was spinning right now. All of the terrible memories of his childhood started flooding his brain.

He was trying his best not to fall on his knees, as it would make him look weak in front of others, and he refused to show his weakness except in front of Evelyn.

After regaining his composure, he asked in a harsh tone, "What are you doing here, Nora?"

"Is that how you talk to your mother? I know that Hugh is a bad influence on you. Call me mom," Nora Langford—Alex’s mother, sighed.

"Why should I call a bitch a mom?" Alex scoffed. He tried to avoid Nora’s eyes and darted his eyes at Roger Dust instead. "Besides, I’m not here to meet you, Nora. I’m here to get even with my uncle."

Roger Dust was not a wimp, unlike Pierre. He didn’t cower when Alex glared at him. He leaned on the sofa and asked, "Are you here because of Pierre? Come on, we both know that he is not really bright, right? If he makes a mistake or two, then just let him be, as long as he doesn’t harm you."

"Don’t play dumb, you bastard. You are the one who told Pierre to leak the document. That coward wouldn’t dare to do anything if not because of your order!"
