Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Big Brother
Alex clenched his fist as he was ready to get up and slap that bastard who brazenly asked to meet with his beloved as if Alex didn’t know what was in Josh’s mind.
Many men wanted to court Eve when they were still dating back then. Eve was objectively gorgeous, and her tough persona and disciplined attitude made her look like an unreachable goddess for many, including Alex.
So he did everything he could to be the one who occupied her heart. It was a painstaking effort to make sure that Eve only had her eyes on him, but it was well worth it.
’There is no way I’d let another man do that. Not when I finally have my chance to make her mine forever,’ Alex told himself. ’Maybe I shouldn’t allow Josh to come here anymore. We can always talk in my office anyway.’
Unfortunately, Alex had a bigger problem in front of him.
He didn’t expect that woman—the bitch who ruined his family—to return and collude with his uncle.
Since Alex couldn’t hurt her, he began to think of a way to counterattack, "Since I can’t hurt her, then I guess the best way is to ruin Roger and Pierre. She is using them as her tool to get what she wants."
Alex gritted his teeth as he knew what that woman wanted.
He darted his eyes at the mirror, looking at himself, and chuckled mirthlessly, "Oh, how much I hate inheriting some of your features, you psychotic old bitch."

Eve was waiting inside her room for an hour. She hadn’t taken off her outfit, as she was waiting for dinner with Alex. She didn’t want to have dinner with him while wearing pajamas.
She stared from the window and saw Alex’s friend walking to his car which was parked near the garden. He didn’t seem to notice her, but she kept staring at him longingly.
She didn’t understand why, but that man felt familiar with her as if he was her long-lost sibling or something.
Eve had the urge to open the window and call that man, so she could at least have a chat with him. But then, she remembered how angry Alex was when they were staring at each other for five seconds.
Despite being the dominant one most of the time in their relationship, Eve knew not to press his button, as Alex was actually possessive and somewhat controlling. He would question her nonstop about everything, and once he got all the adequate information, any man who approached her suddenly withdrew the next day.
She had long known that he didn’t like seeing her being all friendly to a guy if it wasn’t for work. Not that she wanted to since most of the men she talked with had that perverted grin on their faces, especially when Eve tried to be a little friendly by smiling at them.
Eve scoffed as she realized that she had been seeing Alex with thick rose-tinted glasses, "I should’ve known that he’s not the simple broke boy I thought he was. How come he could force all of those men to back off immediately?"
Nevertheless, the truth was out, and there was no point in confronting Alex about this. Eve already knew that he must’ve used his power to suppress those men to leave her alone.
Usually, Eve wouldn’t care much, but this Alex’s friend in particular...
"How come you feel familiar?" Eve murmured. All she could do was to watch him drive off out of the mansion.
Eve sighed. She leaned on her chair and stared at the ceiling.
"Wouldn’t it be nice to have a sibling? A big brother would be great. I’ve always been alone since I was young," Eve muttered. "I want a big brother I can rely on, so my life won’t be full of struggles."
Eve didn’t understand why she said these things, but it just felt right after seeing Alex’s friend.
As she was busy with her thoughts, there was a knocking sound followed by Alex’s voice from the outside, "Eve, dinner’s ready."
"Ah? So fast?" Eve responded as she got up and opened the door.
Alex was still wearing the same outfit he wore during the family function a few hours ago, added with a checkered white-pink apron that was too small for his body, "Let’s go. I’m starving."
Eve snickered, "You look cute with that apron."
Normally, a big and intimidating guy like Alex wouldn’t be happy to be called ’cute’, especially when wearing an apron two-size smaller. But he didn’t mind at all.
"Really? This apron is for you, but maybe I should buy a new one of my size, so we can match like a couple, right?" Alex asked shamelessly.
Eve was the one who got embarrassed instead, "Y-you don’t need to do that. I was just teasing you."
"But I bet we’d look cute as a cooking couple. How about we start a cooking show?"
"L-let’s go to the dining hall! I’m hungry!" Eve said as she walked past him.
Alex smiled and followed her to the dining hall.
"Dinner’s ready. Sorry, I couldn’t cook complicated dishes. I was busy in my study just now," Alex informed as he stood next to the dining table, like a contestant ready to be judged for his dishes.
"It looks and smells nice though," Eve commented as she saw the pecan chicken casserole. She knew it must have taken time for him to make, so she added, "You don’t need to cook for me every dinner, you know. We... we are not living in that small rented apartment anymore."
The smile on Alex’s face dissipated a little, "I just want to repay you. You’ve cooked for me almost every dinner and lunch for five years. It’s only fair if I am the one doing it now."
"I never think of it as a burden. We were very much in love back then..." Eve lowered her voice as she got self-conscious of what she said just now. "Besides, I-I can always cook every other day for the two of us. I don’t mind..."
