Chapter 99: Secrets and Guilt

Jules’ pov

My eyes widened, heart flying straight into my throat as a sharp jolt of fright flew through my insides, prompting me to hurriedly grab Blaze’s hand and tugged on it, right before his eyes landed on the television.

He glanced down at me with an arched brow, one which lowered as he leaned down a little, eyes trailing over every inch of my face.

"Is something wrong?" He asked, eying me closely. He could clearly see the panic and fright on my face right now, one which i couldn’t explain.

"Bunny?" He called out as he reached for my shoulders and massaged it. My heart was thumping against the side of my ribs at a really fast pace and my ear was ringing from how panicked I was currently feeling.

I struggled for something to say, but nothing managed to come out after I parted my mouth to speak. I ended up heaving for breath because my lungs felt extremely empty.

Blaze began to glance around and I hurriedly grabbed his hand again before he could full turn around,

"N- nothing’s wrong." I finally ended up squeaking out, eyes darting around to check if anyone here had somehow recognized me from the picture of me which was displayed on the television, but no one was paying us any attention.

Blaze frowned after that, forehead creasing a little. "This doesn’t seem like nothing, bunny." He gestured to my face as he spoke, and then he stared at my hands with a displeased look and that was when I realized that my hands were currently trembling.

I glanced at the doorway before glancing around the interior once again. I wanted to get away from here as fast as possible. I couldn’t breathe properly any more, it was like my lungs were refusing to take in deep breaths which my entire body needed.

"Bunny, you’re trembling." Blaze pointed out as he reached for my hands and massaged them with his thumbs.

"Did you see something?" He asked and I frantically shook my head, eyes widening and panic flaring even more inside of me.

"No! No. I didn’t see anything." I responded urgently and then I glanced at the doorway once again before glancing back at him.

"Can we please leave?" My voice came out in a whisper this time and Blaze remained silent for a few moments before taking my hand and leading me out of the restaurant.

It was until we got outside of it that I was finally able to breathe. Blaze regarded me quietly as I dragged in deep breaths, and I knew that he was worried and deserved some explanations, but I couldn’t possibly reveal the truth to him, can I? I couldn’t possibly reveal that I had panicked that way because my picture was being displayed back in the restaurant as a murderer.

I had almost forgotten about that. Andrian had informed me that I had been labeled a murderer right after he successfully helped me escape from the country. It had completely escaped my mind until right now, proving that my life was clearly still in danger.

Blaze was still staring at me but he didn’t ask me any more questions, and that made me feel sick to my stomach.

Perhaps he didn’t bother anymore because all I did was lie to his face over and over again.

"You alright now?" He asked softly after a little while, hand settling against my forehead a little and I nodded before exhaling.

"Yeah, I am." I responded quietly as he pulled his hand away and shoved it in his pockets.

I cleared my throat and shifted a little in my seat, heart pounding against my ribs as I made to speak.

"I’m sorry for acting weird in there." I breathed out and he hummed while nodding his head slowly.

"You know I have a lot of questions, don’t you?" He asked after a few moments and I sucked in a deep breath before slowly nodding my head.

He took a step forward, closing the distance between us and I had to fully tilt my head back for our eyes to meet. He wasn’t holding my chin this time, but it felt like he was.

"I’m not gonna ask you questions any longer, bunny." He revealed and I felt my heart drop into my stomach as I blinked a couple of times.

"Oh." I breathed out and he hummed. The expression on his face was an easy and almost blank one. He reached up and brushed my hair out of my face after a fleeting moment.

"I’m gonna let you take your time, and come to me when you’re ready to talk. Okay?" He continued and I bit on my bottom lip as I slowly nodded, exhaling a long sigh.

"Okay." I whispered before pressing my hands together to stop it from shaking and giving me away.

"You’re hiding something from me." He continued. It wasn’t a question, it was a statement.

I swallowed emptily, a heavy lump still hooked in my throat. My heartbeat accelerated and my knees wobbled a little. Panic flared inside of me in waves, and this time, I didn’t try to deny what he had just said, because I didn’t want to lie to his face again.

"I’m sorry." I whispered, voice cracking a little.

He stared at me for a moment longer before wrapping his hand around the back of my neck and tugging my face into his chest.

We were currently in public and everyone were walking around, doing their own thing. It’s embarrassing to be in this position in public right now, but I couldn’t bring myself to pull away, I didn’t want to.

Tears welled up in my eyes but I refused to let it fall, because I didn’t think crying was gonna make a single thing in my situation a little bit better.

Instead of giving into the urge to cry, I took in deep breaths and blinked a couple of times to clear up the stinging sensation in my eyes. I also sucked in deep breaths, filling up every inch of my lungs with his scent which was pouring off him in waves and curling around every inch of my body.

Slowly, I felt myself start to relax against his chest and then I finally pulled away and exhaled deeply.

I cleared my throat and shoved my hands into my pockets before letting my eyes meet his dark, stormy ones.

"I- I’ll be off to see my guardian then."
