Chapter 96: Kissing Before An Audience

Jules pov

My heart was still racing and it felt like I was in a trance as Blaze led me through the spacious compound, straight ahead till we were walking through the gates.

He led me straight to a running car with tinted windows and tugged the back door open. I slid into the car without questions and he slid in along with me, pulling the door shut almost immediately.

The car began to move in the next moment, pulling out of its spot and straight unto the highway.

My heart was still pounding fast and when I glanced at Blaze, he had an eyebrow cocked when our eyes locked.

His hand settled at the side of my face almost immediately, cupping it and making all of my insides to flutter uncontrollably.

"You okay, bunny?" He murmured and I let out a sound of disbelief before pulling his hand off my cheek and turning the hand around to take a look at his knuckles.

This was the hand he had used in punching Xander. It wasn’t wounded, but it was red, and it looked like it was gonna start swelling in no time.

"You’re the one who threw a punch because of me, I should be asking you that instead." I mumbled as I gently traced the tip of my finger across his knuckles.

He let out a scoff before tugging his hand from my grip and using it to tilt my head up.

"Why? Was bunny worried about me?"

I bit on my bottom lip, cheeks flushing a little as I stared into his eyes.

In that moment, I hadn’t been worried for him because I was certain he’d effortlessly take out Xander. But it still left disturbed feelings inside of me, the thought of him putting himself through trouble or getting a little hurt does that to me.

He brushed my hair out of my face, fingers softly stroking my cheeks.

"I wish you didn’t have to protect me this much." I breathed out and I noticed a frown settled across his face, making my heart stumble in my chest because it instantly looked like I had said something wrong.

"I mean, I wish I could defend myself instead of being protected like this everytime. You protect me so much and I don’t want you to think this is gonna be a normal occurrence, it’s not gonna be, I promise. I- I’ll be able to take care of myself soon, and then–"

I was speaking without stopping to take a breath and I didn’t stop until he cut me off with a single word.

"Bunny."

I trailed off at once, cheeks flushing a little and heart racing as I shifted a little in my seat.

"I love protecting you." He revealed and I felt my chest expand with so much emotions at once.

"You’re not weak because you need protecting, it’s just the circumstances which you have no control over. I’m not gonna get tired of protecting you or think it’s something wrong." He continued and my breath hitched in my throat, eyes widening a little as I blinked a couple of times.

"Oh." I breathed out and he hummed, fingers combing my hair out of my face.

"That’s right. So stop worrying this pretty head off with issues you have no control over, okay?"

I blinked once before exhaling slowly and nodding twice.

"Okay." I whispered and his eyes twinkled this time.

"Good boy."

I felt lightheaded almost immediately, cheeks reddening as I averted my gaze, while my heart pounded against my ribs.

"He’s right, pretty boy. You should listen to him. He loves protecting me too." A voice called out, startling me and causing me to jolt a little as my eyes darted forward to settle on the person in the driver’s seat of the moving vehicle.

How I didn’t notice him until right now was a complete mystery to me.

He looked like a student, a good looking one, and he was currently handling the steering wheel with one hand, like a pro.

It was like he could feel my gaze on him, because he threw a glance at me in the next second, one which was accompanied with a sly grin.

"Hey there, I’m Roy." He introduced himself, a dimple popping out and I glanced at Blaze who was currently massaging his forehead.

"Shut the hell up and drive, Roy." Blaze called out with an eye roll and Roy, the driver (?), snickered in amusement and after a few moments, he glanced at me again.

"So, you’re the boss’s bunny, huh?" His eyebrows wiggled as he spoke and I flushed all the way to my hair roots at once.

Before I could attempt to say something, Blaze was tugging me backwards and I fell against his chest with a squeak, hand grabbing his muscles filled lap for balance and cheeks flushing even more, because Roy just continued to wiggled his eyebrows at me through the rearview mirror.

"Cut it out, Roy." Blaze called out before grabbing my chin and tilting my face till our eyes were locked once again.

"Ignore him, he’s a noise maker and a nuisance." He said to me this time, and even though his voice was gruff and dismissive, I could detect a hint of fondness in it.

It was hard to ignore Roy though, not when I was certain that he was still looking at us through the rearview mirror. I have a lot of questions to ask, mostly about Roy, but then Blaze was tugging me forward and kissing me softly, a kiss so soft that still managed to completely steal my breath away.

I let out a stuttered breath once he released his hold on my chin, cheeks flushing in embarrassment because I was a hundred percent Blaze had just kissed me in the presence of this person who was a complete stranger to me.

My heart was still beating fast when Blaze held his right hand out for me.

"Since you were so worried for me, why don’t you kiss my knuckles better? I heard it helps."

Roy had a shit eating grin across his face when I peeked at the rearview mirror, but I was determined to tune him out.

I held Blaze’s larger hands in my smaller ones and leaned down to brush light kisses across each reddened knuckle. My heart clenched after each kiss, because each reddened knuckle was a proof of him defending me when he didn’t have to.

My heart was spilling over with so many emotions by the time I was done.

It was like Blaze could read my mind, because he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and tugged me against his chest, holding me against him without saying a word.

He didn’t even need to.

His silence was more than enough.
