Chapter 180: Apology
Chapter 180: Apology
Jules’ pov
Before I could respond to Blaze, we got interrupted by a voice calling out my name.
I turned around and my eyes locked with Josh. A bitter taste instantly settled on my tongue at once and I let out a low sigh, watching as he carefully approached us. He was dressed in knee length shorts and a tank top which represented the team he’s playing for today. He stopped a few feet away, an uneasy look across his face and it took a few moments for me to realize that it was because of Blaze’s presence.
"Can we talk?" He asked after clearing his throat. His other was pinched in a nervous line as his eyes darted at Blaze before panning back to me. At this point, watching people display this amount of fear and uneasiness in his presence like he’d randomly attack them or something was starting to make me feel irritated.
I wanted to ask everyone why they’re so afraid of him because to me, he’s literally harmless. Although anger a few seconds, I remembered the last time I had a conversation similar to this with Josh and Taylor; whereby Josh had said just because he never gives me reason to be afraid of him any longer, doesn’t mean he had given every other person reasons to not be afraid of them.
I pushed my hair out of my face and took a step away from Blaze as I responded.
"About what?" I asked and Josh’s eyes slowly darted towards Blaze who seemed to be deep in tho"Can we talk in private?" He rephrased and I bit at the inside of my cheek for a moment.
"Can you please tell me what you want to talk to me about first?" I asked and he hesitated for a moment before stepping close to me a little.
"How have you been?" He asked and I almost snorted but I stopped myself from doing that, chosing to chuckle instead.
"I’ve been okay. What about you?"
"Look, Jules... I just want to apologize to you. I know what I did was wrong..." I cut him off before he could finish, shaking my head.
"Oh, no. You don’t have to apologize. Why are you apologizing?"
"I know I messed up. You’re my friend as well and I kind of didn’t act like one when I went behind your back to make up with Taylor." He examined and I huffed, chest feeling a little warm at his apology.
"I appreciate the fact that you’re apologizing, Josh, but you know you didn’t really do anything wrong. You and Taylor have been friends before I arrived, it’s normal that you have a stronger connection with him, so I don’t think you did something wrong by making up with him while I was on the sidelines. It’s very understandable and although I was sore about it, now that you’re apologizing, I realized that you’re not supposed to because you don’t owe me that, you know?"
He shook his head once I was done speaking. "Don’t speak like that, Jules. You’re still our friend, my friend and I know I owe you an apology. You’re entitled to be annoyed and I hope this apology would make things better between us." He explained and I let out a small sigh before taking his hand in mine.
"Thank you for the apology, Josh. You’re too kind."
He snorted this time. "Not really, I’m not. Anyways, I really missed you and I know things won’t be the same between us but just know you have a friend in me." He offered and I offered him a bitter smile in return.
"I’ll keep that in mind, although won’t Taylor mind?" I asked and he rolled his eyes a little this time.
"Taylor is a little difficult to understand." He breathed out and I snorted underneath my breath.
That was an understatement.
After a few more exchanges, I closed the distance between us and tugged him into a hug. He was stiff at first before enveloping me in his arms. We’ve never hugged before and I’ve never initiated a hug myself in ages with someone I’m not familiar with.
"I’ll see you back in school." He breathed out as he left and I waved at him, telling him that I’d see him in school as well.
Once he was gone, I turned around to meet Blaze with a small smile tugging at the side of his lips.
"That was cute, bunny. I told you he was the sensible one out of the two, didn’t I?"
I let out a low huff, still feeling like I needed to defend Taylor even though we’re not on talking terms.
"They’re both sensible. Taylor just has his moments." I sighed out and Blaze snorted before putting out his cigarette.
I let my eyes wander around and from the looks of things, the competition was gonna be over soon, then parents would start leaving and students would soon start to return to school.
My eyes locked with Kai in the next moment and my breath hitched in my throat for a few seconds. He was walking past and the eye contact only lasted shortly, but it felt extremely long. He didn’t say anything to me, nor did he stop to attempt talking to me, probably because of Blaze behind me.
As I watched his retreating form, I realized that I’ve not seen Xander since that encounter with him in the elevator. I wonder if I’d see him after we return back to school. I wasn’t even looking forward to that, but at least I’d return back there with Blaze already claiming me. That’s supposed to keep those nasty bullies away at least.
Blaze pocketed his phone and held a hand out.
"Let’s go."
My eyes widened, my insides perking up as I slipped my hand into his. "Where are we going?"
"Away from where. Roy is waiting for us." He explained.
"Is he taking us back to school?"
He scoffed. "Fuck no. We aren’t returning to school until tomorrow. For now, we’re going somewhere else, to do a bunch of things which I’ve planned out."
"Where is that?"
"It’s a surprise." He announced.
"But I wanna know." I whined and he chuckled.
"That’s gonna take the fun away, don’t you think so?"
