Chapter 178: Thinly Veiled Threats
Jules’ pov
Blaze’s hold around my shoulders tightened at once, reminding me that he had me and wouldn’t let me go so I had no reason to fear or panic.
That reminder has my mind slowing calming down.
"Father, ask Val to back off." Blaze spoke next and the exact shock I felt was perfectly mirrored across Andrian’s face.
Andrian laughed a little as he finally glanced at Blaze. He awkwardly cleared his throat the next moment.
"I just need to talk to him... as his guardian..." He was still speaking when Blaze cut him off.
"You want to take him out of the school against his own will. He doesn’t want to leave." Blaze’s voice was flat as he spoke and Andrian flinched a little before clearing his throat and trying again.
"Ah... Blaze... I know you’re just worried for him, we all are, that’s why he needs to change schools. Jules understands as well. Don’t you, Jules?"
Three pairs of eyes were on me in the next moment and I bit on my bottom lip, completely unsure of what to say next. Andrian had an expectant look in his eyes and Blaze’s father was still filled with that glint.
"I- I don’t think the school’s unsafe for me." I ended up stuttering in response and I noticed the moment Andrian’s eyes darkened.
"See? He doesn’t want to leave, so back off." Blaze continued almost immediately and I watched as Andrian sighed, combing his fingers through his hair.
"As his guardian, I know what’s good for him." He turned to Blaze’s father this time as he continued. "Your majesty, let me remove him from this school. He’s currently in a situation that requires a safer space..."
Blaze cut him off. "Are you saying the school isn’t safe?"
Andrian shook his head. "No, your highness. That wasn’t what I meant. What I meant was that–" Andrian was still speaking when Blaze waved him off.
"Father." He spoke next. A single word, and his father sighed as if bored.
"Why do you need my help with keeping him in school with you? You haven’t even introduced him to me yet." His father pointed out almost immediately and I bit on my bottom lip as Blaze scoffed while chuckling.
"I don’t need your help to keep him with me, father. We’ve both established that at this point. I’m telling you to ask this man to back off because it’s clear you both have history together and I’d rather not get my hand bloodied unnecessarily right now." Blaze responded and I noticed when Andrian’s eyes widened on realizing that he was who Blaze was referring to in his sentence.
Blaze’s father chuckled a little, shaking his head slowly. In the next moment, he reached out a placed a hand on Andrian’s shoulder.
"The kid wants to remain in the school. I don’t think removing him is gonna be of any use. The school is safe and he’d be protected there." Blaze’s father spoke, and it was clearly the opposite of what Andrian had expected before his face visibly fell.
Moments later, his eyes locked with mine and I sucked in a sharp breath at the amount of emotions dancing in his eyes right now. One which stood out the most was rage. He quickly tried to mask it but I had already seen it.
"Oh." He breathed out before nodding slowly. "Of course, your majesty. You’re right. I was only worried since I’m his guardian." As he spoke, I wished there was a way I could slap him or something. Watching him right now made me feel like a fool because of the way I trusted him in the past, not knowing he was right in the middle of my entire misfortune.
Blaze didn’t thank his father, and it didn’t seem like his father expected him to. Beside his father, Andrian still stood there, trying to appear neutral but I knew he was fuming on the inside because once again, his plan to take me away from here has just been ruined.
At this point, I knew the presence Andrian has been putting out this up all these while wouldn’t be able to remain. This encounter is undoubtedly gonna bring a shift into this entire thing.
And I genuinely didn’t know what to expect.
"When were you gonna tell me about your mate?" His father’s voice pulled me out of my thought and I noticed his eyes on me once again.
"And why the hell would I do that? Knowing you’d end up finding out anyway." Blaze responded and his father snorted.
"You’re right, son. I always end up knowing."
"I wasn’t keeping it from you if you’re wondering. I just didn’t deem you... relevant enough to be informed." Blaze drawled and this time, his father’s jaw ticked. It was clear that this one had hit close to home.
"You’ve not as smooth as you think, son. You’re still messy, like a child. You leave stains and footprints behind everywhere. You’re supposed to be a pro at this by now." He breathed out while Blaze snorted.
"I’m still a teenager, after all. By the time I graduate in a few months, you know what I’m gonna do next?" He started as his hand dropped from my shoulder to clamp around my wrist.
"I’m gonna kill you... and I won’t leave traces behind by then." He finished speaking, voice filled with a clear threat.
His father however only rolled his eyes, appearing bored.
"You’ve been saying this for over a decade, son. This is why everyone still believes you’re deranged." He pointed out with a chuckle.
I let my eyes wander around again and as expected, we were being watched but no one could hear us because the arena where we were currently standing was separated from the others.
"Goodbye, father." Blaze spoke and my eyes darted towards Andrian who was staring at the ground. A scowl was on his face when his eyes locked with mine in the next moment.
"Goodbye, son. Enjoy this... while it lasts."
That was a thinly veiled threat and I felt flabbergasted.
"Enjoy breathing... or a few more months." Blaze said in response to my utter bewilderment at his confidence right before he tugged me away.
