Chapter 177: One on One Encounter

Jules’ pov

I’d recognize that face anywhere.

The memory instantly resurfaced in my head, of that particular night, whereby before I had gone off to go play the piano with my magic, my father had taken me to a group of men, then he had broken the news to me that I was gonna have to select a husband out of all of them.

I’d remember that face anywhere because in that moment, it had traumatized me immensely.

I was filled with an insane amount of shock. It was currently dancing through my entire insides, and that was because never in my wildest dream did I ever guessed that this same person would end up being Blaze’s father.

I thought they all died that night?

The report was that I was the only survivor.

How is he still alive and why the hell does he have to be Blaze’s father?

Blaze peered down at me, eyebrows arched slightly in a silent question. I let out a slow breath and slowly nodded, tightening my hold on his wrist.

’You’re alright. You’re alright. Nothing’s gonna happen to you’.

I repeated those words over and over again in my head as Blaze led up forward till we were standing in front of his father.

A lot of people were watching us, but pretending not to.

In the middle of the large space where everyone was seated around, a large field was right there and from the looks of things, it seemed like the competition had already started.

When I glanced back at Blaze’s father, our eyes locked and instantly stiffened because it felt like I got slapped across the face.

He looked nothing like Blaze, for one.

Which is probably why I couldn’t have guessed that this man could be Blaze’s father.

Because all these while, I had just assumed that Blaze and his father were gonna look alike.

Boy, was I wrong.

Blaze dropped my hand and in the next minute, he draped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me against his chest, and then he spoke.

"Hello, father." I felt the rumbles in his chest before his voice drifted out of his lungs and I bit on my bottom lip, while silently praying nothing goes wrong today.

Blaze’s father let out a small chuckle before leaning forward in his seat. He had a handful of guards flanking him right now, and they all looked ready to attack anyone at a single command.

"It’s been a while, son." Blaze’s father finally breathed out and behind me, Blaze let out a scoff while shaking his head.

"What do you want?" Blaze asked in the next moment, cutting straight to the point and I found myself stiffening again.

His father’s eyes wandered around for a moment before locking with mine for a moment.

I instantly averted my gaze because he was making me feel so uncomfortable even though he wasn’t doing anything yet.

"Do I need to want anything to come watch my son play?" Blaze’s father drawled while chuckling once again.

After a few moments, Blaze spoke again. "If you have nothing else to say to me, then we’d be on our way. The only reason why I came down here is to show you that I’m not afraid of you." Blaze spoke, voice flat and this time, his father rose to his feet after handing his drink to one of his guards. He stared at Blaze for a few seconds before shaking his head.

"I think we should go somewhere private. At this rate, the entire people present right now are watching us instead of the competition."

And he was right, a quick glance confirmed that even were indeed watching us. I even noticed a few people recording to my bewilderment.

"I’m not interested in going somewhere private with you." Blaze responded without missing a beat. His father shoved his hands into his pocket and remained frozen for a few moments. When he took a step closer to us, I felt a scream start to build up in my throat.

"People are watching. You want them to run off with gossip again? They’d say stupid shit like you’re gonna hit me or something, like you’d ever have the guts to do that." He threw his head back with a laugh at the end of his sentence and as I watched him, I couldn’t believe that he was casually edging his own son like this.

"You know I’ve never cared about gossips, I don’t give a fuck about what anyone thinks." Blaze responded, sounding suspiciously calm. His father snorted this time.

"Of course you wouldn’t. After being known far and wide as a deranged prince, nothing else can be able to top that." His father explained and I instantly felt anger still to grow inside of me on Blaze’s behalf.

His father was a psycho.

A sick one.

"Hm. ’Deranged son kills his father by cutting off his dick and forcing it down his throat, along with his plucked eyes and chopped off fingers and toes’. Do you know how much buzz that kind of headline is gonna create?" Blaze laughed maniacally as he spoke and a muscle in Blaze’s father’s forehead ticked as he only snorted without saying anything else.

"You’re funny, son." He finally responded, chuckling wryly. Blaze snorted in the next moment.

"It runs in the family, don’t you think so?"

Blaze’s father chose to ignore that and in the next moment, he nodded towards me and at once, my heart climbed into my throat.

"You aren’t gonna introduce me to this piece of cake?" His father drawled, eyes gleaming as he stared at me, like he knew something we didn’t. I inched into Blaze’s chest even more, getting consumed with the urge to hide away right now.

"Don’t fucking call him that." Blade snapped just as his hand around my shoulder tightened.

Before either of them could say something else, from the side of my eyes, I noticed Andrian approaching.

"Oh shit." I muttered underneath my breath, heartbeat quickening in waves.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

With my heart hammering against my ribs, I watched as Andrian stopped beside us and bowed at Blaze’s father.

"Your majesty."

"Val, the prodigy. Fancy seeing you here." Blaze’s father drawled in response and I felt my eyes widen at once at the fact that Andrian had just been referred to as Val, and also because it seemed like Blaze and Andrian knew each other.

Blaze waved a hand towards me, his eyes still on Blaze’s father as he continued.

"I’d like to borrow this one for a little bit." As he spoke, I instantly began to shake my head because from the looks of things, if Andrian takes me away for a few minutes, he’s never gonna let me return. That was clear enough at this point.
