Chapter 157: Gooey, Mushy Feelings
"Oh." He whispered, face painted with various shades of emotions at the same time.
I nodded tensely.
I hated thinking about my childhood. It brings along a lot of trauma, which I’d rather not think about.
"That must have been frightening." He ended up whispering, cheeks wet with tears which I instantly began to wipe away with my fingers.
"Stop crying, bunny." I murmured and somehow, that made more teardrops roll down his cheeks.
"It’s just that... I used to think I had it bad growing up, but compared to yours, my childhood seemed like a joke, like- like a walk in the pack."
I shook my head and wiped his cheeks again. "No, bunny. Don’t say that. We’re all built differently and our experiences matter and shouldn’t be compared, okay?"
He nodded slowly. "I still feel so bad. I’m so sorry you went through that. You must have been so scared when that happened."
I nodded once. He was right. I really was scared shitless back then.
"I was indeed scared because that never happened before and because it was also my first time killing anyone."
His entire face crumbled again. "At ten years." He whispered and I hummed a little while nodding.
"I’ve tried to bury most of my childhood memories when I broke out of my father’s chain. My father isn’t aware of most of the things I can do. The ones he’s aware of, he tried understanding them, had me undergo a lot of tests while growing, but they all amounted to nothing."
"Your father is so horrible. He sounds so scary." He whispered and I couldn’t agree more.
"He really is. He’s all of those and way more than those." I explained.
"So... you knew those two men who captured me?" He asked and I nodded.
They were faces I’d never forget. They were a part of my father’s train of guards and they’ve been tasked to whip me countless times when I was still a child. I had vowed to take revenge on all his guards involved with my suffering since childhood.
After a few moments, he reached up and wrapped his arms around my shoulders, tugging me into a hug. I held him tightly against me, eyes falling close and body shaking a little because I hadn’t realized I needed a hug until now that he was hugging me tightly.
He wasn’t creeped out after all that I revealed to him. Instead, he was here, comforting me. Even though I like to convince myself that I’ve gotten over the entire thing I experienced while growing up, this hug was all it took for a wave of pain to crash over me at once, one which was slowly being numbed away by this hug.
"Do you know what that is? That makes you suck in people’s souls with your hand until they turn into sand." He asked after we finally broke out of the hug and I slowly shook my head.
After the first time that happened, I refrained from trying to do that ever again because I was afraid of the ability itself. My father never got to know of that. Those three guards who I ended up killing that night, my father never assumed I was the one behind their absence because I heard him asking for their whereabouts a few days after the incident happened.
After I got with Roy was when I used that ability against for the second time. It was to save our asses from someone who my uncle sent to tail me back then. Roy had been horrified when that happened, but he still stayed by my side. It was mainly because he had nowhere else to go but I still secretly liked that he remained by my side. We tried to figure out what that power meant together, we searched vigorously but didn’t find an answer that actually related to that power of mine.
"So... it’s like an urge?" He asked after a few seconds.
"I’m not sure." I glanced at my hand as I responded, replaying that rush of euphoric satisfaction and fulfillment that usually consumed me whenever I take people’s souls.
"It’s like an urge but one that stays forgotten until whenever I actually want to think about it. It’s not something that I think of a lot, because I don’t. It’s also something that I can control. When I do it, it fills my inside up and makes my veins feel charged, but that’s about it. I’m not sure why I’m able to do that and I’d still like to know why."
I brushed his hair out of his face as I continued. "I remember telling you that there’s a lot of things I can do that you weren’t aware of. This is one of them. I thought it scared you, and it broke me. But I’m glad it didn’t because I don’t want you to be scared of me. I’d never hurt you.
He grabbed my wrist. "I know you’d never hurt me. And I’m not scared. I was just shocked, that’s all. Are there any more power abilities you possess? So I won’t be shocked when I witness it."
I chuckled wryly as I stroked his cheek.
I was about to respond when his phone rang, cutting through the atmosphere.
He fished out the phone and grimaced on checking the caller ID.
"It’s Andrian." He announced and I groaned in annoyance. I hated this Andrian and I really wanted to rip his heart out for having the audacity to trick my mate this entire time, but I knew I couldn’t be hasty, which was why I’ve been calm this whole time.
Jules accepted the call and put it on loudspeaker.
"Where are you?" Andrian asked immediately, voice sharp and I closed my eyes for a second to stop myself from snatching the phone and ordering him to mind his business.
Jules stumbled over his words a little. "I- er... I–"
"You’re okay, right?" Andrian asked.
"Yeah, I am."
"Come over to the office right now." Andrian continued. "We need to talk."
Jules glanced at me and I shook my head.
"Ah, Andrian. I can’t right now." Jules breathed out.
"You have to. This is important. You know what we’re working on. You can’t just decide to not show up when it’s important. You didn’t end up showing up last night. We really do need to talk."
Jules glanced at me again and I shook my head, pointing between the two of us and mouthing to him that we’re together right now.
"Maybe tomorrow then? I’m- I’m currently with Blaze."
"Blaze? Leave him and come over this instant. This is way too important than whatever you’re doing. Drop everything and show up as fast as you can. Or do you need me to come get you myself?" As he spoke, I massaged my head because I could feel a headache starting to grow there.
When Jules glanced at me, I nodded my head slowly, mouthing a response to him.
"Okay. I’ll be there in a few." He responded and the call ended.
"Am I really showing up? Did you detect how he sounded? He sounded very furious and it’s obvious he’s up to no good." Jules breathed out and I couldn’t agree more.
"Yes, bunny. You’re really showing up... and I’m coming with you."
His eyes widened. "You are?"
I nodded with a grin. "It’s high time I pay your uncle Andrian a visit. Don’t you think so?"
