Chapter 149: Contemplations
Jules’ pov
My mouth dropped open from the feeling of shock mixed with confusion swirling through my veins.
"What’s wrong?" Blaze asked as he took a look at my phone screen. I noticed as a scowl slowly formed across his face in the next moment.
I took a deep breath in, feeling extremely conflicted.
"Do you think... Do you think Kai knows something about what’s happening?"
Blaze still had a scowl across his face as he combed his fingers through his hair.
"It would seem so. I wouldn’t put it past him." He paused for a moment before continuing.
"If he does know what’s happening, then it means my father is really out to get you."
I exhaled slowly as I stared down at my phone again, unsure of how I was supposed to respond to the text right now.
I could remember the last time we spoke in the elevator. He had said I’d have to come to him and hang out with him if I wanted to get more information about all that was happening. Of course I hadn’t gone ahead with that because I really didn’t want to start what I couldn’t finish. But now, it was looking like I should have really taken him up on that offer.
"You and Kai are related, right?" I asked when I glanced up a Blaze again. He lazily shrugged his shoulders before nodding once.
"Kai told you about it?" He asked and I hesitantly nodded. I had completely refrained from ever bringing this particular topic up, but right now seemed like a perfect opening.
Blaze kept staring at me as he continued. "What else did he tell you?" He continued and I shrugged. There was no way I was gonna be telling me all what Kai told me about Blaze.
"Nothing much." I breathed out.
If Blaze could tell that I was being evasive, he didn’t indicate, he only let out a small huff before rising to his feet and dragging his hand over his face.
"Right now, Andrian is expecting you, but of course, you aren’t gonna show up, you didn’t plan on doing that anyway." As he spoke, I nodded slowly while listening intently.
"As for Kai, I’m actually not surprised that he also knows about this." He paused for a moment, eyes serious.
"You see... My father favors Kai more than me. Which is why I can see how Kai is able to figure out things like this, because he gets them right from the horses mouth."
I blinked in surprise and confusion as I dwelled on what he had just said.
"But why would he tell me something like this? If your father wants to get me and Kai is aware, why would he want to betray your father this way and why would he even want to help me out or protect me?" I asked, genuinely feeling lost.
Blaze snorted. "He’s not outrightly telling you anything this way, he’s never gonna do that, which means he never outrightly betrayed my father. As for why he’s trying to protect you, it’s just because he wants you for himself. He always wants anything that belongs to me." He explained and I nodded slowly even though I was still lost.
"Oh." I whispered and he hummed while nodding again.
"So... does this mean Andrian has been working for your father this entire time?" I asked after a few minutes, eyes widened when I began to process that probability.
"I had Roy look him up a few days ago. There was nothing on him, which clearly means ’Andrian’ isn’t his real name. Roy is still trying to dig him up but so far, nothing’s coming up." He informed me and I felt my heart hammer against my ribs.
I instantly began to feel disgusted to the core. I began to think about the few times Andrian spoke about Blaze’s father in the past. It had always been with so much fear. So he had really been working with Blaze’s father this whole time?
The sheer audacity for him to act like a saint in my face over and over again when he might have had a hand in the murdering of my entire family.
I dropped my phone beside me on the bed and gripped my hair tight. "All of this is driving me crazy. Why does your father want to capture me this badly? Why did they have Andrian act like a good guy this entire time? Why did they wait all this while before finally starting to strike?" I kept asking questions after questions, expecting Blaze to have an answer for every question.
Blaze massaged his forehead as he sighed. "I’d give anything to know why my father of all people is involved in all of this to begin with."

I didn’t end up calling Kai. I didn’t let him know that I was already aware that I was in danger. I only told him I had no plans to leave for anywhere in the first place.
He instantly asked if we could meet up in his room, an offer which I declined, claiming I needed to sleep because I was a little under the weather.
As I laid in bed that night, the amount of fear weighing down on my bones prevented me from getting a little drowsy.
Blaze reassured me he had everything under control snd that nothing was gonna happen to me the previous day, but I couldn’t help but still worry and worry, because I know that if I end up getting killed, no one would give my parents the justice they deserve, and then I’d also fail my mother that way because she had urged me to stay alive no matter what.
I felt Blaze’s arm around my middle pulling me closer against his warm chest.
He nosed down my throat and in a few seconds, I felt his teeth clamp down on a spot behind my neck, causing me to instantly stiffen before the entire thing I was thinking about rolled off my mind, leaving my entire limbs feeling slackened, head completely empty.
This time, I knew what bite that was, right before I drifted off to sleep.
It was a settling bite.
