Chapter 138: A Sinking Feeling
Chapter 138: A Sinking Feeling
Jules’ pov
I took one last look at the woman who was still sitting in the same spot. She was currently trying to act unfazed but I could see past the front she was trying to put on, probably because she got threatened to do just that.
When I glanced back at Andrian, he had an
Unreadable expression on. I exhaled slowly as I began to speak.
"I know you’ve put so much effort into this, Andrian, but I don’t want to try unsealing it any longer."
Andrian blinked slowly before letting out a sigh, and then he closed the distance between us and crouched before me.
"Why are you hellbent on not trying? This is for a great cause." He began as he moved closer to me. I tried my best not to let the uneasiness I was starting to feel get obvious.
"If you unseal your magic, you’d have a bigger chance at finding the murderers of your family, that’s something you’re always wanted from the very start, isn’t that right?" He continued and I hesitated before shaking my head in response.
"I’ve always wanted to unseal it, but not at the expense of people’s lives. My mother wouldn’t be happy if I do that, Anya wouldn’t be happy if I do that. I was raised by them to be a better someone than that." I explained, watching as he blinked slowly.
"Who’s Anya?" He questioned and I tilted my head sideways as I slowly responded.
"That’s my sister, Anya." I explain and he slowly nodded.
"Ohh."
I blinked slowly. "You knew who she was, right? You said you knew about me and my siblings since you were friends with my mother." I breathed out, feeling a sinking feeling settle in my stomach.
He nodded slowly once again before rising to his feet. "I remember Anya now. That pretty sister of yours, right? I forgot her name for a moment back then." He chuckled once he was done speaking and even though the sinking feeling in the pits of my stomach multiplied, I forced myself to chuckle along with him.
He walked over to the table and began to look through the things scattered over it for a few minutes before throwing me a glance.
"You seriously not gonna consider trying it one last time?"
Once again, I slowly shook my head in response.
"If we let this witch slip through our fingers, we might not be opportune to come across one as powerful as her again. I say we try one last time. I have a feeling this one’s gonna work and in most cases, I’m never wrong." He began to speak almost immediately and I found myself sighing again.
He just doesn’t give up, does he?
"Andrian, I think we should just let destiny take its course. Maybe my mother had a reason for sealing my magic. Maybe it’s to protect me or something. So I feel like we should just leave it be for now." I finally responded.
Andrian walked towards me with a drink which I accepted and pressed against my damp fingers.
If he was annoyed that I was refusing to try one last time, he didn’t indicate. Instead, he walked over to the witch and said something inaudible to her, and then he walked her towards the door and closed the door after her, leaving the both of us alone in here.
I grew more nervous now that we were alone, but I made sure to conceal that emotion.
Andrian walked up to the circle on the ground where the witch had just vacated. He picked up the book from the circle and stared down at it for a moment before placing it on his table.
"I respect your decision, kid. But you know this means all my efforts, the time I spent working on getting a hold of this book, the sources I paid to scout the country for powerful witches, everything has technically been flushed down the drain tonight.
I bit on my bottom lip as the uneasy feeling heightened even more in my inside.
"Oh." I ended up mumbling, not knowing what else to say.
"I just didn’t want any more important people to die because of me. You know I still suffer from guilt because of the amount of people that died that night." I explained and Andrian snorted before walking over and taking the spot beside me.
"I hate to come off like this, but you’re gonna have to get over this feeling of guilt at a point, especially knowing that your parents and siblings were innocent when they got murdered. You should be ready to go to any length to bring justice to them even though it means a few innocent people would end up losing their lives along the way, they’d be dying for a great cause and that’s all that matters."
As soon as he was done speaking, I felt chills roll down my spine.
In a way, what he was saying sounded extremely right. But I don’t think killing innocent people just because I lost my family is the right thing to do. If anything, that’s just gonna make me as worse as the murderers of my family.
"What you’ve just said makes so much sense, but I still don’t think I can kill innocent people just to achieve something." I finally mumbled in response.
Andrian laughed a little, and then he reached out and massaged my shoulder a little, which made me instantly stiffened.
"In due time, this mindset of yours is gonna change." He ended up announcing and even though I was extremely sure that’s never gonna happen, I didn’t bother mentioning that to him.
He leaned forward in the next moment and sniffed at my throat and I felt my cheeks flushed before he spoke.
"So... you and Blaze huh?"
I swallowed emptily as my heartbeat began to race.
"You’ve been keeping your distance from him, right?" He asked and I nodded at once.
"Of course, I have. But y- you know he’s kind of persistent, so his scent gets left on my skin a lot." I explained, hoping he doesn’t prob too much right now to avoid me from slipping up.
I couldn’t wait to leave his office right now.
Andrian laughed at that before patting my shoulder again.
"Most werewolves are like that so that’s expected. But I’m sure he’s also being extremely clingy to you because of his ulterior motives, which is why you need to always be on guard around him at all costs.
I nodded tensely, feeling like a lump was stuck in my throat.
"You’re right, Andrian." I breathed out and he laughed again.
"I always am. Also, by the way, you’re still keeping your identity a secret from him, right?"
He questioned and I made sure to not grow stiff or tense because his hand was still on my shoulder tight now. I shook my head at once, appearing offended as I responded.
"Of course I have! And I’m not going to reveal it to him. You said he’s definitely one of the bad guys and well, I’m not ready to take any chances in this situation."
He grinned, clearly pleased by my response.
After one more tap against my shoulder, he pulled away from the couch I was still sitting in, and I was finally able to breathe again.
He began to talk about the new plans he was working in and I kind of tuned him out, because my mind was back on analyzing the fact that he wasn’t a good guy this entire time like I had believed.
If I had been finding it hard to believe this, then tonight has kind of hit the nail on the head.
I felt sick to my stomach and I couldn’t wait to leave his office tonight.
The fact that he has been a part of the bad guys this entire time means everything he has told me has got to be a lie, at least, most of it.
Before I exited his office tonight, he made sure to show his displeasure over the fact that I was yet to start using the new phone he got for me. I didn’t understand what his deal with the new phone was, but I told him I was gonna start using it tonight.

The ride back to the dorms was slow because of traffic, and that left me with more than enough time to dwell on the entire thing that happened back at Andrian’s office.
Despite already coming to the conclusion that he isn’t a good person, it was still hard to get used to that fact, which is because I literally trusted him with my entire life.
When I arrived at the dorm, Blaze was still not present.
I fished out my phone and the first thing I saw there was a text from Andrian reminding me to start using the new phone.
With an irritated groan, I walked towards the wardrobe where I kept the new phone at and fished it out.
I unboxed it and pulled the phone out of the pouch. I stared at it intently, wondering what’s so special about the phone and why he’s so fixated on me using it.
