Chapter 139: Physical Confirmation
Jules’ pov
I turned the phone around and took a closer look at it. It was the latest model, and it was already set up according to Andrian, I just have to turn it on and start making use of it.
When I heard a sound behind me, I wheezed, heart flying into my throat as I whirled around.
Blaze was standing in the doorway of the bedroom, Leaning against the doorway and hands shoved deep in his pockets. I let out a long relieved sigh as my shoulders dropped low.
I really should get used to Blaze doing that. I should get used to him materializing out of thin air like he had just done.
A smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he began to strode towards me at a lazy pace, and I felt my heartbeat pick up because I had missed him so much even though I spent the entire morning and afternoon with him.
"Hey Bunny." He cooed once he stopped before me and as usual, I felt my stomach do some flip flopping around, which usually happened whenever he called me that. It didn’t matter if he had always called me that, it still always managed to leave me feeling flustered.
"Missed you." I mumbled as I accepted the hand he held out to me, and then he pulled me into his arms, holding me firmly as I buried my face in his warm chest. I desperately inhaled his scent, and as it moved through my insides, it managed to help me stop feeling so nervous and worked up, like I had been feeling way before I exited Andrian’s office.
"Missed you more bunny." He rumbled out after a few minutes and i felt my entire inside turn into a puddle at once. His firm arms were around my sides and i never wanted to leave the warm cocoons of his arms. This is exactly what I needed after the entire thing I experienced tonight.
From the talk with Taylor, and the encounter with Andrian. I literally went from having the best day with Blaze up experiencing a very shitty night.
"You okay, bun?" Hid voice was soft as he spoke when he pulled me out of his arms and regarded me closely.
I bit on my bottom lip as I dwelled on the question.
I wasn’t okay before, but I definitely feel way better now that he was here.
His eyes caught the new phone on the bed before I could respond and he eyed it closely before speaking.
"What’s that?" He asked and I walked towards the bed and picked up the new phone which I was yet to turn on. I’ve decided that I’d return it back to Andrian tomorrow and let him know that I don’t need it for anything.
"It’s a phone Andrian got for me after the old one got destroyed. Although I never got to use it since I’m still using the one you gave me." I responded and then I began to put the phone back into the carton. "Although, Andrian had always been pestering me to start using it and to return your phone back to you, and I don’t understand why he’s so fixated on it. He literally reminds me like every day."
Blaze hummed as he walked towards me and retrieved the phone from me. He pulled it from the carton and turned it around, peering at it like I had previously done.
"It’s just a normal phone." He stated and that was the exact thing I said after checking it out.
He turned the phone around and tried to open the back, but it didn’t budge. He walked off to his side of his bed and retrieved a pair of keys and used it to force the back open. A cracking sound echoed through the room in the process, and I watched in confusion and curiosity as he finally opened the back of the phone and peered down at it.
I noticed his forehead pinching together which prompted me into closing the distance till I was peering down at the back of the phone along with him.
A black chip, that looked like a SIM card was glued there, connected with some wires to the phone. I didn’t understand what that was, and when I glanced up at Blaze, a dark expression was plastered across his face.
"This is a listening chip. For listening in on conversations." He announced and my eyes widened as my mouth dropped open in utter disbelief.
I recoiled and slapped my palm across my mouth, heart getting lodged in my throat. Intense panic began to flare inside me at the realization that Andrian had been able to listen in on our conversation this entire time.
The fuck?
If I still had second thoughts, then this is the physical proof I needed to be a hundred percent sure that he’s certainly a part of the bad guys.
When Blaze noticed the panicked expression across my face, he took the phone as he spoke.
"Relax, bunny. It’s not activated yet." He explained and a rush of relief flooded my veins at once.
"Oh." I whispered, watching as he carefully closed the phone up. The back of the phone was now cracked.
"That’s why he kept pestering you to start using the phone. The chip can only work when the phone is turned on. Once it’s turned off, it won’t be able to work." He explained while eying the phone wearily.
I suddenly felt too weak to keep standing, which made me drop into Blaze’s bed.
It all made so much sense. Why he literally kept reminding me every time to start using the phone already.
But why would he need to put a listening chip on me?
"Why would he do this though?" I breathed out as my mind reeled.
"Probably to see if you’re starting to doubt him, or if you’re telling me things you shouldn’t, or it could just be because he wants to know everything you’re getting involved in." Blaze explained as he sank into the spot beside me.
"I can’t believe I trusted this man." I whispered after a few minutes. My entire inside was filled to the brim with disbelief, I had literally trusted him wholeheartedly.
Fucking hell.
