That wasn’t right...

It was already concerning not to find anything if he was using commonly available information but he wasn’t.

He was using methods that weren’t necessarily legal but it wasn’t exactly like he was a law-abiding citizen.

Yet he couldn’t find a single trace of the Omega; the only place he had been mentioned was in the article written about his parents’ death, and then it was almost like he didn’t exist outside of that.

Jael sat back in his seat, this ran far deeper than he could have ever predicted.

It was probably better to keep this information to himself for now, they still had to deal with the High Council.

He doubted that Caspian would be able to add anything useful even if he brought it up with him, he doubted that he knew a thing about it.

It was unspoken but it was clear that Asher wouldn’t be pleased with him discussing any of this with Caspian...

Leaning back in his seat and staring at the screen of his laptop that didn’t provide the information he wanted, Jael’s brow furrowed...

He had been so shocked by the email from the High Council, finding out that Caspian was essentially the leader of a Pack, and being unable to trace down any of his records to question the most important thing.

How had the High Council found out about Caspian?

Until recently, he had been flawlessly disguised as a woman... so how...

The creases in his brow wrinkled further, his brain working double time to come up with an answer.

Even if the High Council did have a spy, how had the spy known about Caspian’s identity?

It meant that all fingers pointed to the temporary Alpha of Moonstone.

Leaning forward again, he decided to change the direction of the investigation, looking up the current Alpha of Moonstone Pack.

Information immediately flooded his screen, Alpha Warren Reeves. He stood tall, his dark eyes bright, black hair elegantly graying on the sides.

It was easy to gather information on him, Warren Reeves was a charismatic man, loved by all of Moonstone.

A more in-depth research showed that he had been acting in the position of the Alpha of Moonstone Pack ever since the death of the previous Alpha and Luna.

And although Caspian, the heir to the position was now of age to take over, he didn’t look too eager to hand over the position.

If the very recent news articles talking about the opening of a resort in Moonstone were any indication.

The resort was intended to increase economic activity with the influx of tourists coming to spend their time there.

Warren had a cool smile as he posed for the press with his mate right beside him, her smile beaming.

There wasn’t a single article or news outlet talking about the only son of their deceased Alpha and Luna. Moonstone moved on rather fast.

Jael straightened up, there were so many businessmen, opportunists, suppliers, and so on in Haines City. It would be next to impossible to trace down any contacts Warren Reeves had here.

He decided to just wait and see how things would turn out, he had already spent way too much time on this matter.

At first, he had accepted Asher’s crazy response to the High Council’s ultimatum because he knew it was a losing game to disagree.

But after finding out more about Caspian’s past, he wasn’t too eager to send the Omega back there either.

It wasn’t just the shady man pretending to be the Alpha of Moonstone Pack, it was the entire town playing along that creeped him out the most.

His phone rang as he shut down his laptop, and he picked it up without checking caller ID.

There was barely any need to, he had only a few numbers saved, and only the men ever reached out to him outside of that.

So he was surprised to hear Asher’s voice, he was just a couple of rooms away from the Alpha, there was no reason for a phone call...

"I’m on my way back to the mansion," Asher informed him, unprompted.

"What?"

"By the way, there’s someone in the office."

"Wait..."

Jael stared at the screen of his phone when the call dropped, an exasperated expression on his face.

He shot to his feet and started for the private room that doubled as Asher’s office.

There was one of it in each and every one of his clubs, it was the only way to get him to do any work because the Alpha hated to be restricted.

He stepped in to find a nervous-looking man in a three-piece suit, he looked around like he expected to be shot out of a random corner.

"What do you need?" He gruffly asked as he stepped in - he was terrible at peopling.

The man cleared his throat, "W-Where’s Mafia King Asher?"

"What did he tell you?" Jael turned the question on him.

"That he needed to use the restroom for a moment," He said, somehow managing to sound more nervous with every word he spoke.

It was so juvenile that Jael couldn’t be mad. "Right. He’s unfortunately occupied, so I’ll attend to you instead." He said bluntly, planting his ass on Asher’s chair.

"I-I was thinking of expanding my business..."

Jael settled in to deal with the matter, it was just mid-afternoon. He was going to be busy for hours - it was high time he took a vacation.

Caspian laid on the couch with his phone in hand, reading a book.

The curtains were wide open, sunshine streaming in.

Usually, he spent his afternoons napping so that he could wait up for Asher but he had a feeling that he wouldn’t need to do that this time.

He laid on his back, his bare legs hanging over the arm of the couch.

Other than putting on shorts, he had made no adjustments to the outfit he wore in the morning, still wearing Asher’s shirt.

He planned to take it off right at dinner time, self-conscious about the thought of Asher seeing him in his clothes.

When the door handle turned, he didn’t move from his position, confident that it was just a maid.
