Chapter 391: -Chapter 391-
The sounds of chains snapping made Jael curse, but he didn’t push Lake to say more. He just held the Omega’s wrist and let him the way to where Caspian was.
It would only take Asher a few moments to completely get rid of the chains, it was better he got a feel for the situation before then so he would know how to diffuse it.
Lake stopped him in front of the door, standing protectively in front of it even though he didn’t look too great, his skin pale.
Jael forced himself to speak softly although he was a bit panicked and very impatient. "What’s wrong with Caspian?"
"His heat is strange," Lake finally got the words out, "It’s too... much?" He said hesitantly like he was trying to figure out the right words to use, his hair a wild mess. "It’s just not supposed to be like this."
Lake had successfully cooled Caspian down at first, and he relaxed knowing that he had managed to buy a few hours. It was the first day of his heat so he might have even managed to buy more than a few hours.
But only a few minutes later, Caspian was heating up again and curling up in pain. Trying to cool the Omega down again didn’t help and Lake was starting to get frantic.
He was pregnant so Caspian’s heat wouldn’t affect him but the cloud of the Omega’s scent was still too heavy, it made it hard to breathe which made him all the more nauseous.
Being unable to help with Caspian’s pain made the entire situation too much to bear so although he hated to leave Caspian alone, he had to go get help.
He opened the door then, and without even taking a step in, Jael already felt light-headed. That wasn’t good...
The sheets on the bed were ripped up, Caspian curled up in a corner sounding like he was sobbing.
What. The. Fuck.
Asher showed up then, the Alpha tossing off one last chain off his neck, his tattered shirt barely hanging on.
"Asher, we..." Jael didn’t get any of his words out before he was getting shoved out, the door slamming in his face.
Lake had been tossed into his arms, the pregnant Omega looking disoriented and a little pale.
Jael gritted his teeth and focused on getting Lake to somewhere he could lay down for a bit.
It was futile to try and stop Asher now, and he didn’t even want to. He had only gotten a glimpse of Caspian but he could imagine how torturous the Omega must be feeling.
The only person who could help him was Asher, he would just have to trust that Asher would be sane enough to control himself.
This was a mess.
Jael was still lightheaded when they got to a room sufficiently far away enough from Asher and Caspian. He had only been in the room with Caspian for a short while, he didn’t want to think about how affected Lake was.
"How do you feel?" He asked, standing awkwardly at the side of the bed.
Lake pressed his lips together, a strained expression on his face. "I’ll live. Could you ask the kitchen to make me hot chocolate?"
"Yeah sure," Jael muttered, taking out his phone to make a call.
"What’s going on?" Lake asked steadily.
There was no use keeping the truth from Lake, not to mention, the Omega already got a front seat to everything that had happened.
Lake’s accusatory expression turned grave as Jael pulled over a seat and gave him a detailed explanation. A maid brought a mug of hot chocolate in the middle of it and the familiar scent and warmth made him feel a bit better.
"Do you have any idea of who would want Caspian in heat?" He asked, thoughtful.
"No clue, Asher’s just as lost. I had Peter and Keith find the fake replacement, that’s the only lead we have now."
Lake gulped down the hot chocolate like oxygen, and it had Jael wondering if he should have requested for an entire jug.
"How about anyone that would want Caspian pregnant?" Lake rephrased his question.
Jael abruptly stopped thinking about hot chocolate, "That’s just as ridiculous."
Lake knew it was but it was the only reason he could see for an induced heat. Especially as Asher and Caspian had no plans to have children, but who could it be?
"Don’t stress about it," Jael said, rising to his feet. "Just get some rest, I’ll handle everything."
Lake didn’t protest, his mug of hot chocolate empty. Caspian’s scent was usually light and calming but it had been too much today, so much that it became downright nauseating.
He hadn’t wanted Jael to panic because the Beta already had enough on his plate but as soon as the door was shut, he was out of the bed and hurrying to the bathroom.
Lake held his own hair out of his face as he retched into the toilet bowl. With Davian constantly around him, he never had to rely on something else to micmick the Alpha’s scent.
He did not feel better after throwing up, splashing water on his face and going back to bed.
A worried maid showed up with a jug of hot chocolate on a mobile tray, "Jael requested that we bring mo-" more hot chocolate...
"Take it out," Lake said sharply, a look of disgust on his face.
It was the wrong scent, it was chocolate but it smelled nothing like Davian, it made him want to throw up even more.
"W-What?" The maid stumbled over her words, already taking a few hasty steps back.
"I mean I’m full, thank you but please return that to the kitchens." Lake rephrased, the last thing he wanted was for Jael to be informed.
It would suck but after napping for a few hours, the nausea should be all but gone. If Jael was told, it was only a matter of time before Davian would find out, he didn’t want that to happen.
