Chapter 390: -Chapter 390-
Lake remained at the door so he wouldn’t be a nuisance, nearly gnawing his nails clean off from nerves.
Firstly, Asher was a fucking monster. Even while protecting Caspian, it was almost impossible to hold the Alpha down, more than a few of the men getting thrown against the wall.
Lake had to wonder if it was the condition that gave him such inhuman strength. Protecting Caspian was a chink in his defense but it also meant that the men going after him were forced to be careful, it was like watching a room of grown men tackle each other to the ground while trying to keep an egg unbroken.
As soon as Jael had Caspian, Asher getting bound by the chains, Lake hurried forward to take his friend far away from whatever madness was going on there.
Jael relinquished the dazed Omega into his hand and Lake hurried out with Caspian while ignoring Asher’s increasingly violent growls. He had figured out what was wrong with Caspian as soon as he got close enough and now as he half carried his friend down the hallway, a frown formed on his worried face.
He was in heat.
Lake focused on getting them somewhere private first, and he ended up in the room Caspian offered to him the first time they met.
He didn’t stop to relieve the nostalgia, helping Caspian on the bed. The Omega burned to the touch and seemed delirious from the heat emanating off his body.
Lake didn’t hesitate to undo the buttons on the dress shirt he wore, tugging off his socks as well. He needed to cool him down first and any other thing could come after that.
He pushed his hair out of his face impatiently as he filled up a bowl with water in the bathroom, getting on the bed with Caspian when he returned.
The door was closed, the quiet room miles away from the chaos and destruction that was Caspian’s bedroom.
The blonde Omega mumbled incoherently as he gently placed the cold towel on his damp forward.
Lake could taste his sugary scent, the cloying flowery scent making him slightly nauseous. He pushed his discomfort to the side and focused on getting Caspian’s temperature down, relieved when his soft moans and hums died into silence, the Omega dozing off.
Lake wrung the wet towel one more time, absently patting Caspian’s neck to keep him cool, carefully avoiding his freshly bitten mark.
Caspian’s heat had come abruptly, and Lake could tell that his heat wasn’t supposed to happen or Caspian would have at least been well prepared.
He would probably get the answers later, for now, he just had to make sure that Caspian was okay.

Asher went still as soon as Caspian was out of the wrecked room, burning eyes fixed on the hole in the wall. But he didn’t make a move to go after Lake who had Caspian, and that had noting to do with the fact that he was tied down.
"Have the men leave," Asher quietly said to Jael.
The Beta cocked a brow, taking in the strained expression on his Mafia King’s face. "Not till you’re locked in the basement." He said bluntly.
"I’ll break out if you do that." Asher said bluntly.
Jael hesitated, although he liked to think that the basement was the one place that could keep Asher in, he really didn’t want to test that.
"You don’t want to threaten me, boss." He said coldly. He was still yet to recover from the scare he had gotten when he first came in.
"It’s not a threat, I just want to talk." He said gruffly leaning his head back against the headboard like the conversation was taking a lot out of him.
Jael silently gestured for the men to leave, an exasperated expression on his face. His clothes were in a disarray but Asher wasn’t any better, the Alpha wrapped up in heavy duty chains like a burrito.
"Caspian is in heat." The Alpha went right to the point, his mania tinged eyes constantly drifting to the smashed door.
It made Jael’s hackles rise, feeling like Asher would dash off at the next moment. There had been too much going on for him to process then but even in the aftermath of the chaos, Caspian’s sweet scent was still choking, even to him.
"That’s not supposed to happen," He muttered, alarms blaring in his head.
He was immediately reminded of Caspian’s bodyguards calling to report that the Omega’s doctor had been changed.
Asher easily read his second-in-command like a book. "There’s something you’re not telling me." Despite his calm words, there was a vicious snarl on his face.
Jael was unfazed by the threat, "No need to throw a hissy fit, it wasn’t supposed to be important." He paced a bit, one of his empty holsters hanging off his shoulders.
"Doc Bri was sick so she was swapped with a replacement. Peter and Keith reported to me and I did the necessary checks..." Jael trailed off, frowning.
"Have the bodyguards sent in," Asher said without hesitation.
Jael was used to Asher being lucid while his body did otherwise, the chains creaking around the straining Alpha.
A quick call later and the bodyguards were on their way. It was a good thing they were always on standby at the mansion.
"Why would anyone want to trigger Caspian’s heat?" He found himself asking the questions in his head out loud.
Asher didn’t seem to be able to make sense of it either. "A shitty prank?"
"Sounds like a lot of trouble for a prank." Jael straightened up when the bodyguards showed up.
They took the destruction in stride and made their way in.
"Who was the replacement doctor for Doctor Brianna?" He tossed at the men.
Peter’s brows dropped as he quickly put together what was going on.
"Emma Brown." Keith was quick to give a response.
Jael immediately went off in the direction of the ruined closet door to make some calls.
"Was there anything off about her?" Asher continued the conversation in Jael’s absence.
Being Caspian’s bodyguard, the two were used to all of the strange situations their Mafia King often got into, so the sight of a bound Asher wasn’t jarring, they were more distraught by the possibility of Caspian being exposed to danger.
"No. She was average, we only informed Jael because it was odd that Doctor Brianna sent an email to remind Caspian about his check up but she wasn’t in when he showed up." Peter went into detail.
Jael returned with a dark look on his face, visibly fuming. "There’s no one called Emma Brown at the hospital. Doctor Brianna’s replacement was a male Omega."
The new information settled heavily in layers.
"You two know what she looks like, I want you to find her." Jael tossed at the bodyguards who were quick to get started on their new tasks.
Jael had already made arrangements for someone to look into the hospital. The prank was really an elaborate one, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that they were behind Doctor Brianna’s illness.
"Is Doc Bri okay?" Asher asked calmly.
"Yeah, she should return to the hospital in a few days." Jael muttered. He was floored, this was such a ridiculous situation.
No one was actually put in danger so it meant that the people behind it didn’t have any malicious intent, and that made it so much more harder to figure out.
"It might be better not to help Caspian out with his heat," He suggested hesitantly.
It was clearly an induced heat but no one could figure out why anyone would want to do that, he was just being cautious.
Asher gritted his teeth but he didn’t refuse, also thinking along the same lines. Besides, he had an inkling that Caspian’s scent was what tipped him over the edge, he couldn’t be trusted around his mate.
"You’re also thinking that Caspian’s approaching heat is the reason you flipped out?" Jael perched on the messy bed.
Moments like these made the fact that he had quit smoking hit really hard because what he needed right then was a good smoke.
"Yeah," Asher closed his eyes, voice raspy.
"What do you think about staying away from the mansion until Caspian’s heat is over? Lake is here, he’ll be taken care of." Jael suggested, thinking about moving to the far end of the room as he did.
Asher’s expression was pained, he didn’t agree but he didn’t refuse either, Jael would take that as a good sign.
There was a brief silence in the room, both men too caught up in their own thoughts to bother keeping up the conversation.
It was during this silence that Lake made an appearance, the Omega was frazzled and smelling like Caspian had turned his scent to liquid and drenched him in it.
Jael was already on his feet at the Omega’s appearance, as reliable as Lake was, he hadn’t forgotten that he was also pregnant.
"Lake? What’s wrong?"
Lake looked on the verge of tears, "It’s Caspian, h-he’s..."
