Chapter 294: -Chapter 294-
Davian went to the first order of business after making the orders.
Sophia had bluntly said it herself that she had no interest in being a part of her son’s life.
And Davian would personally rip away anything that would upset Lake... because it was bad for the baby.
Sophia would be leaving, and he was going to make sure she didn’t try to worm her way back into Lake’s life.
Considering that she was able to demand for money right after admitting to abandoning Lake because she didn’t want him, he wouldn’t put it past her to return after the baby was born and try to play the grandmother card.
Davian opened the door without bothering to knock, cocking a brow at the sight of Arthur in the room.
The butler froze in turn, muddy brown eyes wide in consternation.
Sophia had been chain-smoking ever since her confrontation with Lake, upset at how she had handled it.
And she had been laying her complaints to Arthur before they were interrupted.
Mafia King Davian stood in the doorway, larger than life, his dark brow lifting slightly.
"I was merely assisting Miss Floris in her early departure," Arthur quickly provided an explanation to Master Davian’s silent question.
Davian kept a poker face on, "Leave, I want to have a word with Miss Floris." He said her name mockingly.
Sophia gulped, she had quickly thrown clothes on after their earlier conversation, because a threat from a Mafia King wasn’t one you took lightly.
Arthur felt like he was walking over hot coals as he dragged himself outside the room for the second time that morning.
Lake wasn’t here and the first confrontation had gone very badly, there was no rationalizing his anxiety about Sophia’s safety.
Inside the room, Davian propped himself against the closed door, his calm composure a stark opposite from Sophia’s constant fidgeting.
"I’ll hand you a blank check, on the condition that you never try to seek Lake out again."
Sophia felt her breath catch in her throat, and it wasn’t from the generous offer.
Her past wasn’t much to write about, but she had lived most of it in the dark side of Haines, not to know what was going on.
Taking Mafia King Davian’s offer would spell her doom, because the Mafia King didn’t need to offer her money to keep her away.
It was a test, and if she failed it, she might not leave the mansion alive.
Unaware of Sophia’s raging thoughts, Davian was occupied with thoughts of Lake, worried that the Omega was all alone.
He didn’t care for Miss Floris, and had zero respect for her after learning about who she really was.
But she was still Lake’s mom, so he decided to go the peaceful route.
"Well?" Davian prodded impatiently, displeased about how long she was taking to give an answer.
Sweat beaded on Sophia’s brows, misunderstanding the situation completely.
"T-There’s no need to pay me, b-boss," She murmured, using her old title for him. "I understand, I’ll stay away."
Davian pushed away from the door, that had worked out easier than he thought it would.
Sophia had no qualms demanding for money from her estranged child so he thought that he would have a difficult time dealing with her.
"I’ll hold you to that," He accepted, stepping out of the room.
That was another task checked off his list, now he could return to Lake’s side...
"Need something?" He asked with evident disapproval as Matilda stepped in front of him.
He had been expecting to see Arthur when he stepped out of Sophia’s room but the hallway had been empty.
At least until Matilda walked right in front of him when he was about to make a turn.
Matilda flinched, she hadn’t been expecting to run directly into Davian, she had just wanted to snoop around.
"Just a word with you," She quickly regained her composure.
She could use this opportunity to get rid of Arthur and the trashy whore.
She had known immediately Sophia was told to leave but she had heard again that Davian had gone to see her, so she came here directly to learn more.
Davian’s wasn’t impressed, "It can wait." He told her bluntly, making a move to brush past her.
Matilda wasn’t giving up however, Arthur hadn’t been acting like himself ever since Sophia came.
And seeing as she was the reason the butler had ire with Lake, she had to move quickly before things fell apart.
"It can’t," She continued calmly, "It has to do with Lake so I’m certain you will want to hear this."
She had Davian’s attention the moment Lake’s name was mentioned, his brows drawn tight.
"Come with me." Davian gave in, leading the way to his study.
This better be fucking good.

Arthur returned to Sophia’s side like a moth to light, eyes wide in consternation.
"What did Master Davian say to you?" He asked in low tones.
Sophia already had her bags packed up, a scarf thrown around her neck. "He offered me money to stay away for good."
Arthur frowned, not expecting to hear that. "And what did you say."
"I turned him down, Art, I’m not stupid." She snarked.
Arthur let her words roll down his back, he had long grown a thick skin to her brash words.
"And where will you go from here?" He kept interrogating her.
Sophia’s red lips curled in a smile, "Do you really want to know?"
Arthur swallowed down bile, he really didn’t, but at the same time, he couldn’t help but ask.
It had been over two decades since he had last seen Sophia, and he knew that if he let her leave, he might not get to see her again.
"Don’t play games with me," He gruffly complained.
"I have clients downtown, so I may stay in Haines for a while." Sophia said airily, walking past Arthur.
"You know I don’t stay in a single place for too long. I go wherever the money takes me."
