Chapter 290: -Chapter 290-
They stopped in a cozy corner of a hallway, there were only two doors in that part of the hallway, and Lake’s heart sunk at the thought that he would actually be getting what he wanted.
He wondered why they had to come all this way for these particular rooms anyway.
There were a lot of rooms in the master wing, as a matter of fact, he doubted he had been here before.
Which was saying a lot because he worked at the mansion for years.
But some places were off-limits even to the house staff so it wasn’t all that surprising.
"These used to be my parents’ rooms," Davian said, taking a deep breath. "There’s a connecting door between them," He explained as he opened one of the doors.
Doing this was harder than Davian thought it would be. He routinely had his parents’ rooms cleaned specially, and he had cleared out their personal effects years ago, but he had never been in here.
Lake hesitated at his words, looking up at Davian with concern in his eyes.
"You don’t have to do that, we can just share a room."
Davian smiled at that and it made Lake stop in his tracks.
The Alpha was always gloomy and expressionless, he didn’t even think that Davian was capable of a smile.
"I needed to do this, I wanted to do this." He said expressively, "Plus, this way, you get to keep your privacy."
Davian expected to reawaken past demons when he stepped into his mom’s room but the decor had already been changed, and it looked nothing like the room he used to know.
These two rooms were in the safest corner of the mansion, and there was a secret back door they could get to from the hallway.
There were several reasons he chose to reopen the rooms, and he was handling it great so far.
Lake stood rigidly at the entrance while he drifted into the room that was made in soft gold and honey tones.
"There’s nothing of my mom that remains here, I had it all taken out. These are all new furniture, even the wallpapers were changed." Davian rambled in a bid to make Lake more comfortable.
In hindsight, he probably should have talked to Lake about this before doing it, but he kind of wanted to surprise him - which was a little silly.
"It’s beautiful," Lake breathed out.
And it was, the decor was so warm it felt like the sun was shining although it was dark out.
"My room is just through that door," Davian said with more enthusiasm, walking to the door right in plain sight.
"Your things are already in the dresser," He went on, starting to sound like an agent showing off an apartment.
"If there’s anything you need, I’ll have it added for you. We can even fit a baby’s corner in here, I don’t know if you would want a separate room for the bab..."
"Breathe, Davian," Lake said with a smile and then froze.
He didn’t often casually address the Mafia King by his name without a title so it was shocking.
"Sorry," Davian murmured, ruffling his hair.
His reaction defrosted Lake’s smile, his life had just taken a violent turn without warning, but it didn’t feel as debilitating as it should.
Even if there was a woman claiming to be his absent mom, it didn’t matter much.
What mattered was that his baby was going to be okay, and his baby’s father was a little awkward but he actually cared about the child.
"I’ll have Arthur reheat the food..."
"We can do that ourselves," Lake interrupted, handling the suggestion better this time.
Lake couldn’t believe he called Davian expressionless, because moments like right now put those claims to shame.
The Mafia King had an expressive look of disapproval on his face, and wrinkles in between his brows.
"You can do the reheating," Lake said with a laugh, "But I don’t want us to eat in here."
Davian relaxed at that, waiting patiently so they could both leave together.
Lake considered changing out of his clothes and changed his mind, he would have to shower anyway, so he would just do that after dinner.
His hair had been getting in the way all night though, so he stopped at his dresser to find something to help hold it up.
The dresser was massive, taking up one wall, and his measly possessions made it look practically empty.
It made his silk ties easy to find though, so he wasn’t complaining, going to the vanity mirror to tie up his hair.
Davian stood back and watched Lake move across the room so familiarly, the Omega belonged here...
In this honeyed room reminiscent of his scent.
It was a little eerie, because Davian had picked out the new colors for the rooms years ago.
He had picked at random, as long as it was different from the previous decor of the room, he didn’t care much.
His mom’s room used to be a vibrant purple, the color of her favorite flowers, and his father’s a dark red.
He hadn’t gone into his new room yet but he knew it was made in shades of black, the decor Gothic.
Lake walked over to him then, pulling him out of his thoughts with a soft smile, his hair out of his face, his eyes almost matching the decor of the room.
"I’m all set," Lake let him know, starting for the door first.
Davian was quick to follow after him, he had not really been paying attention to his meals over the past years.
He just ate what was served to him, barely remembering what he had eaten or even the taste of it.
But eating with Lake changed that, the Omega brought warmth and color with him.
Lake sat back at Davian’s direction when they got to the kitchen, he sat at the island, positioning his stool at an angle where he could keep his sights on the Alpha anywhere in the kitchen.
Davian just needed to shuck the leftovers in the microwave, surely he couldn’t fuck that up.
