Chapter 288: -Chapter 288-

Back at the mansion, a taxi pulled up in front of in front of the gates, the back door opening to reveal a woman.

She wore a poster girl dress with a faux fur coat over her shoulders, huge sunglasses covering most of her face.

The taxi drove off and left her behind with a suitcase and an overnight bag, a designer handbag hung daintily over her arm, an unlit cigarette between her red lips.

The gates were immediately opened at her presence, the men guarding the gate curious.

After a brief conversation, she was allowed in, a couple of the men helping her with her luggage as she strutted into the mansion like she owned it.

She didn’t get very far because the moment she stepped foot into the foyer, Matilda was already there to address her, a dark scowl on her face.

Arthur was hot on Matilda’s tail, his pallor a deathly gray, muddy brown eyes bulging.

He never thought he would see the day when he would see her again... "Sofia?"

"Let me open the door for you," Davian said as he drove through the gates.

Lake hadn’t expected him to ask that, it wasn’t fair, Davian always used the approach he least expected, and he gave in every time.

He sat tight as Davian got out to hold the door open for him, "Thank you," He remembered to say, his attention drawn to the open doors of the mansion.

As they walked into the house, it became more evident what was going on.

There seemed to be a face-off happening, a strangely familiar woman up against Matilda... and Arthur?

They all froze when he showed up on Davian’s arm, the strange woman’s eyes lighting up as she saw him.

"What’s going on here?" Davian asked, more curious than upset.

Arthur instinctively took a step forward to answer the Master of the house’s question, but he seemed incapable of forming words.

His eyes were fixed on a single person, desperation making his pupils grow bigger.

"This fraud waltzed in here with her luggage claiming to be Lake’s mom!" Matilda was quick to provide answers, her voice shrill from anger.

At the top of the stars, Savannah had finally gotten attracted by the ruckus, coming to see what was going on.

Lake had heard Matilda loud and clear, but for some reason, every other sound that was made after she said that felt like it was said under water.

The lady claiming to be his mom took off her large sunglasses then, flashing him a gold-toothed smile, "Not gonna give your mom a hug?"

Lake felt like he was going to throw up right then, and he knew it had nothing to do with being pregnant.

It wasn’t her words that made him nauseous, no, it was because staring at the stranger felt like looking in a mirror.

She looked exactly like him, from their dark chestnut brown hair to their matching soft brown eyes.

She looked really young too, so more like his older sister who looked uncannily like him, and it made him heave and slap a hand over his mouth.

Davian immediately zeroed in on that, reaching for him. "Are you alright?"

Lake took his hand from his mouth and nodded - he was not at all okay.

His mom had left right after he was born, he couldn’t even remember what she looked like, that’s how quickly she left after having him.

It wasn’t like he knew nothing about her either, his dad had made sure to complain about her at every chance he got.

He would go on and on about how she had left him a baby and ran off to whore around.

What he didn’t know was how young she had been when she had him, because if she looked like this now, it meant that she had been a teenager when she had him.

It was too much, all at once, it felt like the walls were closing in on him.

Davian didn’t bother asking Lake if he was alright again, displeased now that this was the outcome.

"Move this conversation from the foyer," He dismissed them, guiding Lake away. "I’ll deal with this later."

Lake let Davian take the lead, their trip to the master wing slow and steady.

The entire time there, he kept fighting with waves of nausea.

He only knew his mom’s name, Sofia, he hoped desperately that the stranger he had just met would have a different name, and he could write this off as an awful coincidence.

Lake went right to the bathroom when they got to Davian’s room, going past the broken door to lean over the counter, gagging into the sink.

He didn’t realize he was crying until Davian helped him hold up his hair, his slender body wracked by sobs and dry heaves.

Davian cursed under his breath, helpless to do a thing.

He had considered giving Lake some privacy when he went right to the bathroom, but the sound of him throwing up was enough to send him sprinting there.

His expression was grave, he didn’t know much about Lake’s mom.

Rob was a bit of a lecher, he ran through money, booze, and women so fast, he was honestly surprised that Lake turned out to be the only kid he had.

He couldn’t let her stay regardless of who she claimed to be if this was the effect of her presence on Lake.

Davian felt really useless just standing there holding up Lake’s hair, until the Omega splashed water on his face to clean up and threw himself into his arms.

His heart felt like it was held between a vice, twisting painfully as he gathered up a shivering Lake.

He was bad at comforting so he just held him and stayed quiet.

He considered moving them back to the bedroom but he didn’t want to interrupt the moment.

When Lake was ready to move from their current position, he would know.

Lake had stopped crying but the Omega had his arms wrapped around him so tight - it explained why his heart hurt.
