Chapter 287: -Chapter 287-
He immediately took a couple of steps back at the cutting glare the Mafia King had directed at him, keeping his fingers crossed that he wouldn’t get shot.
Lake stared at the perfect white floors in the clinical room until Davian left.
"I apologize for the unorthodox way of things, Lake," Doctor Perez started quietly.
"There’s usually a questionnaire to be filled, and you’re welcome to take it with you."
Lake frowned, looking up, "A questionnaire?"
He had asked for some private time with the doctor to ask some questions about the effects of sleeping drugs on a baby.
"The routine questions, how stable your mental health is, if there’s any case of family violence..."
Lake pursed his lips, the doctor was awfully quick to jump to conclusions.
At first, he had called him Davian’s mate, and now, he was tagging them as a family.
"I’ll take the questionnaire," He said shortly to end that line of conversation, "But that’s not why I asked to speak privately with you."
Micheal blanched, fearing the worse but he waited to listen to what the Omega would tell him.
"Are sleeping drugs bad for the baby?" Lake asked bluntly.
Doctor Perez got a little whiplashed, "I’m sorry?"
"Sleeping pills?" Lake clarified, he wasn’t sure what Matilda had used but he had woken up on time without any adverse side effects.
So he was guessing that it was just an over-the-counter pill.
"You have trouble sleeping?" The doctor asked with concern.
"You can say that," Lake answered vaguely.
"Well, I wouldn’t recommend sleeping pills for a pregnant Omega," He said gravely, "Usage over a long period of time could have dangerous effects-"
"And a one-time use?" Lake pressed, he needed to know as much as possible about this.
"Shouldn’t be a danger to you," Doctor Perez let him know, the doctor out of his depth with this odd line of questioning.
"Thank you, doctor," Lake rose to his feet, ending the conversation there.
Micheal didn’t push further, this was only the first visit after all, he needed to build trust with Lake.
Then he would try to push for more information so that he didn’t scare the Omega away.
"Right this way please," He gestured, leading them to a connecting hallway that led to his office.
Davian had been pacing while they were away, the Alpha slowing to a stop and turning to look at them when the door opened.
The Alpha was clearly using a lot of effort to hold himself back from asking the questions on the tip of his tongue.
He didn’t have to though because Doctor Perez went right on to break the silence.
"I would recommend sleeping in the same bed," He said while clearing his throat, a habit he did whenever he said something controversial.
"It’ll improve quality of sleep and it’s healthy for the baby..."
Lake shot the doctor a look, knowing well that the balding man was bullshitting.
The doctor wisely avoided his glare, leading them out of his office with a happy smile.
That’s it, Lake would be tearing up the questionnaire the doctor gave him.
He knew that Doctor Perez was just trying to be helpful, and the doctor had kept his secret but he would rather the doctor spilled what he had privately asked him than what he had actually said.
Davian had been looking for the perfect reason for them to share a room, and the doctor had just given him one.
Lake really needed his personal space, for his own sanity.
He crossed his arms as they rode the mostly empty elevator down, pouting despite himself.
"We don’t have to share the same room," Davian broke the silence.
That caught all of Lake’s attention, because who was this Alpha? It couldn’t be Davian because he would have jumped on this chance.
He lightened up at that, smiling at himself for taking it so seriously. "I’ll hold you up to that."
"But we should listen to the doctor and sleep in the same bed," Davian dropped the other shoe.
They had gotten out of the building now so Lake picked up the pace, he couldn’t believe he had fallen for that.
Davian kept up with his pace, the Alpha making no moves to take his atrocious claims back.
Lake was disgruntled, resolutely refusing to add to the conversation, but he wasn’t upset enough not to notice that they were returning to the mansion in a different car than the one they came in.
He didn’t mention it although he found it odd, settling in for the ride with a soft sigh.
All he had was an illusion of choice, if Davian wanted them to share a room, they would be doing just that.
He supposed he should be grateful that the Mafia King didn’t often use the power he had over him.
"Are you that upset about having to share a room with me?" Davian asked into the tense silence of the car.
Lake turned to him, "I just want some privacy, is that so bad?" He turned the tables on the Alpha.
"I planned to give you that," Davian said quietly.
Lake didn’t like the way he said that, it made him feel guilty for reacting the way anyone else would in this situation.
"I don’t think you can do that while we share a bed," He said lightly.
"I’ll show you," Davian said with far more seriousness than the situation warranted. "When we get home."
Lake caught himself smiling at the second half of his words, looking out the window at the streetlights they passed.
The Alpha had also kept to his word and was taking them back to the mansion after their rather brief visit to the doctor.
If Davian said they could have their privacy and still share a bed, he would take the Alpha at his word.
It wasn’t like he could do much else, plus Davian tended to do as he said he would... most times.
