"So would you prefer our former apartment?" Noah suggested.

Caspian felt his stomach heave then, feeling a little nauseous. "That’s even worse... Look, what do you want to talk about?"

The Alpha’s room was no longer the apartment he grew up in, that place no longer existed.

The time he snuck in here to find out clues about his parents’ death had shown him that.

Noah strolled over to the living room and sat on one of the couches, expecting him to do the same.

Caspian didn’t humor him, standing a good distance away with his arms crossed.

"I don’t understand why you’re being like this," Noah broke his silence, "My parents were the ones who fucked up, not me."

"And I think it’s a little unfair that you’re punishing me too."

Caspian fish mouthed at that opener, staring at Noah in complete disbelief.

He had to pace for a moment before responding, not trusting himself not to walk over and slap the Alpha.

"You think I mated someone else to punish you?" Caspian decided to have a calm conversation with Noah.

Their discussion would never end if he let his emotions lead and just yelled at him like he really wanted to.

"I told you, I don’t mind that you’re mated," Noah said, showing him pitiful eyes.

Caspian felt his stomach lurch again, that only worked on the girls in the Pack who swooned over him.

"...I’ll take you back and we can run the Pack together like we should have."

Caspian had to take another deep breath, starting to come to the realization that Noah might not remember how their three years of marriage and cohabiting had gone.

Or maybe he just remembered it how he wanted to.

"I’m not doing that," Caspian said instead.

He had initially wanted to argue and figure out why Noah was hellbent on saving their wreck of a failed marriage but not anymore.

He didn’t care what mental gymnastics the Alpha performed to come to that decision, he just wasn’t going to be a part of it.

"What?" Noah whispered, more shocked by this than anything Caspian had said before.

"I said no, Noah," He repeated, his voice flat. "I dislike you, and you hate me even more. Let it go."

Noah slowly rose to his feet then, black eyes inscrutable. It was almost like he hadn’t heard the rest of his words after he said no.

Caspian took an involuntary step back, seeing a flash of the teenager that would shove him into lockers in the look Noah wore.

"Why?" Noah asked, tilting his head to the side.

Caspian was just relieved that he wasn’t trying to close the distance between them.

"Why what?"

"Why did you tell me no?"

Dead silence fell in the eerily empty room then, realization clicking behind Caspian’s crystal blue eyes.

Noah was asking why... Of course, he would. He always got everything he wanted, women and men alike fell for him.

Caspian turning down his offer of companionship was too alien a concept for him to comprehend.

"Because, I don’t like you." Caspian said slow for the Alpha to understand.

Noah had to sit down again, still flabbergasted. And if this wasn’t such an aggravating matter, Caspian would be laughing.

"I haven’t even made a move on you yet, you can’t say that."

Caspian was over the conversation then, they weren’t getting anywhere with this.

They would just keep going around in circles, and that was because Noah’s ego was too big that it tripped the Alpha’s sense of reasoning.

"If you try that, I’m not going to stop Asher from going after you." Caspian told him point blank.

He turned around and started for the door then, "This conversation is over, unless you’re holding divorce papers, don’t talk to me."

Caspian was a little nervous that Noah would try to come after him then but the Alpha still seemed to be in shock.

He had to roll his eyes as he walked down the hallway to get some of the exasperation out of his body, taking out his phone to call his mate.

"Where are you?" Asher asked immediately the call connected, sounding a tad breathless.

"On my way back to our room..."

"I’ll meet you there," Asher hung up.

Caspian was a little trouble about how bothered Asher was, he wondered if there was something else bothering his mate.

"What did he want to talk about?" Asher immediately demanded as soon as he stepped into the room.

Caspian didn’t mind Asher manhandling him into a couch, getting comfortable in his mate’s arms.

"Nothing helpful," He sighed, starting to get ticked off again now that he had to reiterate what had happened.

"He started by saying I was punishing him for what his parents’ did, insisting I come back to run the Pack with him aga..."

"Asher? Asher? Baby..." Caspian tried to get his mate’s attention, his vision swimming slightly as he choked on his mate’s smoky scent.

"I’m not going to be able to talk if I’m scent drunk," He protested, trying to sit up.

Asher seemed to catch himself then, his pupils snapping back to their usual size.

"Shit sorry, I got a little distracted."

"It’s fine," Caspian sat up straighter to try to get some fresh air in his lungs, hoping to clear out his fogging thoughts.

"Are you alright?" He had to interrupt himself to ask Asher, more worried about his mate’s well-being than his annoying conversation with Noah.

"You can tell me, I’ll listen," He pushed, worry making his blue eyes glassy.

"It’s nothing that can’t wait," Asher tried to say calmly, but his darting eyes gave away how jittery he actually was. "Tell me more about what Noah said."

Caspian didn’t trust him but he had a feeling that his conversation with Noah was part of what was bothering his mate, so he acquiesced.

"I told him no and he couldn’t believe I was turning him down. He even had the nerve to ask why I said ’no’."

Caspian sighed out his frustration, "I was over the conversation then, and just ended it."
