Chapter 247: -Chapter 247-

The Alpha’s brow furrowed a bit and then straightened out, immediately beelining towards him.

Lake’s eyes darted around, wondering if he still had the chance to escape.

He would ditch his meal if he had to, cooking was less trouble than getting tangled further with Clint.

"You left before I could say goodbye," Clint said with sad eyes, inviting himself to sit at the table.

Lake resigned himself to another meeting, fiddling with the pasta he had gotten.

"Uh... something came up," He muttered, noting that Clint just deserted the lady he had come in with.

She stood awkwardly in the distance waiting for him, and Lake almost wanted to invite her to come sit at the table.

He felt a little bad for her but inviting her meant he was giving Clint an opportunity to stay longer than he wanted him to, so he let her be.

"You’ll be at the park tomorrow, right?" Clint leaned forward, earnest.

"Um," Lake hesitated, his expression taut as he tried to come up with an excuse not to.

"I’ll bring the picnic basket this time, it’s on me." Clint shot to his feet with that eye smile of his.

Lake didn’t remember agreeing, but Clint didn’t seem to care.

He was leaving though so he didn’t try to stop him to correct the misunderstanding.

The Alpha would realize it for himself when Lake didn’t show up to the park the next day.

"See you tomorrow, Lake," Clint waved him off, returning to the side of the lady who gave him an odd look.

Lake just ignored them both, refocusing on his food, he quickly cleared his plate and dipped out of the restaurant before Clint came looking for him again.

And just like earlier in the day when he first met Clint, he forgot to pick up earphones on his way home again.

Caspian regretted his decision to eat with the Pack now more than ever, keeping his gaze solely on his plate.

Even when he was a teenager, he disliked eating with the Pack. He wasn’t a favorite with the other Pack children, and the adults liked him even less.

He had only recently learned why that was the case.

It made him wonder why all the Pack elders were letting Noah do this.

If anything, they should be happy that they weren’t stuck with someone like him who had an outsider’s blood.

For a small write-off of a town, they were ridiculously elitist.

"Let’s never do this again," Caspian leaned closer to Asher to say in quiet tones.

He only spoke to his mate as dinner progressed, ignoring Noah’s attempts to have a conversation with him.

"If it makes you feel better, everyone else seems to hate the taste of their food," Asher replied to him, their faces mere inches from each other.

Caspian looked around briefly, biting on his bottom lip to keep his smile in.

Asher wasn’t wrong, the faces of the Pack members seated at the table with them were of strong disapproval.

Caspian wasn’t sure if it was because of his mating to Asher, or for simply existing.

"It does make me feel better," He smiled a little this time.

There was a thud on the table then, attracting everyone’s attention.

Noah had been the one to slam a curled fist on the edge of the long wooden table, rising to his feet.

"We need to talk." He bit out at Caspian, "Just you and me," He tacked on, shooting a cold glare at Asher.

Caspian placed a calming hand on his mate’s thigh. Noah was usually at his bullying best when it was just the two of them.

They really needed to have this conversation.

He rose to his feet then, alone; Asher remaining seated at the table, his jaw locked tight.

Caspian had deliberately gone for an outfit that would show off his mating mark, the soft-to-the-touch top he wore dipping in a v-line down his chest.

"Fine," He agreed, gesturing for Noah to lead the way.

Noah hesitated for a bit, like he hadn’t been expecting his demands to be listened to.

Dahlia had sat on the other side of him at the dining table, her skin ashen as she focused on her food.

Caspian might still be hurt if this had happened right after the truth about his parents’ death came to the surface.

But now, he just didn’t care about Dahlia anymore, she was no one to him.

He had a friend now that actually cared about him, and wouldn’t betray him over a teen crush.

Caspian pushed his short locks of hair out of his face, walking after Noah.

The dining room was so quiet as they went out that you could hear a pin drop.

It meant that the person that lost hold of their silverware then caused a deafening noise.

He didn’t pay attention to it, choosing to keep walking behind Noah as the Alpha led the way down a hallway.

He was curious about where Noah intended to take them.

The entire Pack house was empty because most were in the dining room. The teenagers and kids had their own separate dining room right next to the main one.

"We don’t have to tour the entire Pack house before having that talk," Caspian spoke up, starting to lose patience at all the walking.

"I just don’t want anyone walking in on the conversation," Noah said calmly, an odd contrast to how he usually was.

Caspian eyed up the back of his head distrustfully, wishing that Asher had given him a gun again this time.

He knew well that Noah was painfully aware of the fact that if he did anything to him, Asher would gut him.

Noah was stupid but not that stupid to know that putting him in a danger was essentially a death wish.

So he obediently went with Noah who took them to the Alpha’s room.

Caspian grimaced as he walked in, "I really wish we didn’t have to have this talk here."
