Chapter 249: -Chapter 249-
"Why did you say no?" Asher asked in an odd tone.
Caspian looked up at him then in pure disbelief, "What?"
"I just..." Asher trailed off, tousling his dark red hair. "I’m just curious."
"Are you seriously asking me that?" Caspian asked, slowly getting to his feet.
Asher was certain he could taste bile then, panic souring the taste in his mouth. "I..." He trailed off, unsure of what to say.
He wanted to fix his mistake but he was wary of saying another word, certain he would ruin things further.
Because he really did want to know why Caspian said no. He knew his mate loved him, but he just wanted some reassurance.
And he found the absolutely worst way to seek for it.
But deep down, he was really insecure, he was a Mafia King and he had little else to give Caspian but a dangerous life.
He would rather be gutted than see Caspian with Noah but he wasn’t blind to see that the stupid Alpha would provide him a more stable life than he ever could.
He supposed he was just curious why Caspian chose him, more than simple curiosity, he really wanted to know.
"I’m going to take a shower," Caspian took a step back, walking around Asher to get to their shared bedroom.
He expected his mate to come after him but Asher seemed glued to the couch.
Caspian’s head was a mess, and it wasn’t because of Asher’s smoky scent.
He absently undressed and made his way to the bathroom, trying to figure out what had happened.
They rarely had fights, as a matter of fact, they never did.
All they had previously was disagreements and that stemmed from being too worried about each other.
This wasn’t even a fight but Caspian felt awful regardless. Why did he need to have a reason to say no to Noah? What was so special about him?
He understood why Noah asked that, what he couldn’t wrap his head around was why Asher would ask too.
As he showered, he wondered if he had overreacted. His conversation with Noah hadn’t gone great and he might just be taking it out on his mate.
Caspian let the shower water run over his face, his emotions a tangled mess.
Even if Asher wasn’t in the picture, his response to Noah would have remained the same.
And regardless of his lack of involvement in his parents’ death, nothing would have changed.
The more he thought about it, the more confused he became. Was he supposed to accept the atrocious offer? What was he missing?
After cleaning up and getting ready for bed, Caspian decided that he wasn’t going to let Noah come between him and his mate.
So he marched right to the living room, determined to get to the bottom of what Asher was talking about.
Only to find the couch empty, not just the couch but the entire apartment. Asher was gone.
Caspian immediately took out his phone to call him but the call didn’t even connect.
He couldn’t believe Asher had gotten rid of his phone to avoid talking to him, it made him clutch his phone tighter, upset.
He could find his mate if he really wanted to by going to find the men that accompanied them. Calling Jael was another great option, but he was too upset to consider doing that.
Caspian just turned around and stomped back to the bedroom, when Asher was ready to talk to him, he knew where to find him.

Davian felt a little out of it but that was to be expected after getting off inhibitors.
He had been paying close attention to himself these past few days, the moment he felt off, he would immediately make his way back to the mansion.
That was the reason he was heading back home earlier than he usually did tonight.
Often, especially after Matilda and Savannah moved into the mansion, he got home past midnight.
It was dead quiet at that time, even Arthur was hardly awake to receive him, and he preferred it that way.
But now it was barely past eight PM and he was already back, his expression souring as he bumped into the last person he hoped to see.
Savannah and... a visitor he had never seen before.
Davian cocked a brow as they both froze a short distance from him. He had just come in through the front doors and they were on their way out.
"Davian," Savannah beamed, visibly nervous. "Y-You’re back early."
Davian decided there and then that he wasn’t ready for a conversation, intending to walk right past them.
"I’ll let Mom know we’re having dinner together," Savannah pressed on, her companion staring wide-eyed at Davian like he dropped from the sky.
Now Davian was forced to stop and address the allegations, "I already ate. I’m going to bed, don’t bother me."
Savannah just silently watched him stride right past, wisely saying nothing more.
She didn’t know if she was allowed to bring in outsiders, and her mom had warned her to make sure Davian never met any of her friends dying to visit his mansion.
And she had fucked up royally on that end.
"You guys totally act like siblings, oh my god," Natasha, her friend fawned.
Savannah wasn’t interested in the compliment, uneasy about potentially getting in trouble. "I think you should get, going Tasha," She murmured, taking her friend’s wrist and dragging her along.
Natasha was blissfully unaware of what her friend was going through, still not over bumping into Mafia King Davian.
"That was the first time I’ve ever seen him up close. Won’t you help me hook up with your cousin, Sava?"
Savannah practically shoved the other Omega into her car, "Text me." She said in a hurry, waving her off.
Natasha sat in the driver’s seat for a minute or two, her blushing smile never fading as she finally started up the car much to Savannah’s relief.
She stepped back and made sure the other Omega left before starting for the front doors...
She needed to tell her mom what just happened.
