Captive Mate BL
Chapter 102: + - 102+

Chapter 102: +Chapter 102+

Caspian colored up at her words, which was kind of redundant considering that she had checked over every inch of his skin, and then some.

He couldn’t blame her for her words, learning that he had a fractured rib and shoulder contusions was enough to make him very receptive.

She had also done some blood tests but it would take a while for the results to come in.

The door opened to reveal Jael, the Beta leaned against the doorway, a calm mask on his face.

"Are we free to go Doc?"

Brianna handed Caspian a paper bag, "Yes, and I’ll need you to make sure Caspian gets enough rest." She said steadily, holding Jael’s gaze.

The double meaning in her words was clear, and Jael figured he could at least do that much.

"Can we grab lunch together?" Caspian blurted out after waving Brianna goodbye.

They were in the parking lot, languidly walking towards the car.

Jael was quick to agree. Maybe going out for a change would put some color in the Omega’s skin.

Besides, he would rather Caspian’s company to his own shit company in his bedroom.

"Sure," He accepted as he helped him into the car, giving directions to the driver.

He chose a quiet restaurant nearby, and Caspian immediately went to a window seat.

It was clear that he wasn’t in the mood for conversation, and Jael didn’t mind, content to sit in companionable silence.

Soft jazz played in the background as a polite server showed up to take their orders.

After their food arrived, Jael watched Caspian push his food around his plate for half an hour, lost in his thoughts as he watched the people and cars go by.

"Is the offer to leave still open?" Caspian shattered the silence with a question that had Jael cocking a brow.

If the Omega wanted to disappear, Jael was more than willing to offer support even if it meant incurring Asher’s wrath.

Love shouldn’t be destructive.

"Always."

Caspian pushed the food on his plate around some more, now that he had experienced more, he understood now that Jael hadn’t tried to get rid of him because he had a vendetta against him.

And although he had asked that, he didn’t think he could ever leave Asher. He couldn’t live without him.

He just... He needed some answers from Asher, he deserved that at least.

"Thanks, Jael." He blurted out without warning, truly grateful to the Beta.

His initial image of him was a detached, cold-blooded criminal, and he was just that.

But even cold-blooded criminals could give warmth too.

Caspian should probably be more concerned about his current position.

But if cold-blooded criminals were the only ones to accept him, and give a shit about his well-being, then he would take it.

He didn’t make the rules. He didn’t choose who to fall in love with.

He expected the Beta to deflect it like he always did but instead, he saw the shadow of a genuine smile on his face for the first time.

It didn’t touch his dim eyes though, and he feared it never would. Lucy’s death was still fresh.

The trip back to the mansion was just as quiet but the air between them was lighter and brighter, Caspian dozing lightly by the time they got inside the gates.

Jael made sure the Omega was tucked in bed before leaving, giving orders to the staff to pay special attention to him.

He never needed to do that before, Lucy had asked a few questions about Caspian all on her own, and went ahead to make sure he was alright.

Jael wondered if she saw her younger brother in Caspian, or if she just felt obligated to take care of everyone she met.

He made a few calls as he made his way out of the mansion again, it was time to drop in on Asher.

He wouldn’t resume work until he was completely healed. He had promised Caspian and he would hate to have the Omega worry.

Jael hopped into his favorite car, it was one of his personal cars.

In the center console was a pair of shades he wore often and a couple packs of cigarettes. One was already open.

He ignored the cigarettes and picked up the shades to put them on, swerving out of the open gates.

He should get the car deep cleaned, the cigarettes included.

Jael got down from the car and started for the club, the men situated around immediately standing at attention at the sight of him.

He ignored them, he wasn’t here for work, he had other important things to deal with, like the hospital report sitting in his pocket.

The men idling in front of Asher’s office didn’t bat an eyelid at his presence, standing in place when he reached for the door handle.

Jael swung the door open without knocking, pleased to find the Alpha all alone.

He shut the door behind him and strode forward, taking his sunglasses off.

Asher leaned back at the sight of him, sprawled in his chair.

"You’re supposed to be on leave," The Alpha said calmly, hazel-gold eyes cool.

"Right." Jael didn’t slow down, reaching into his pocket. "However, I’ve got something important for you."

Asher eyed the piece of paper being handed to him, refocusing on Jael.

"You’re pissed." He noted casually.

Asher reading him perfectly was no surprise, "And you’re about to find out why." He waved the paper in his face.

Asher was cautious, and Jael could understand, he was acting very out of character.

The Mafia King preferred to be bluntly told things, and Jael did that every time without fail.

Asher finally reached for the paper in his hand, and Jael forced himself to sit down peacefully.

He needed the Alpha to read the report himself, and if his reaction wasn’t satisfactory, he would jump him.

He watched Asher unfold the paper and quickly scan it, needing to look away briefly at the torturous realization unfolding in his eyes.

By the time he looked back, Asher already had a gun in his mouth.
