Chapter 103: +Chapter 103+
Jael had to lunge across the desk, but for a completely different reason.
"Put that the fuck away," He bit out even as he struggled to pry the gun out of Asher’s hand.
"Caspian is fine," He tagged on, tossing the gun over a shoulder.
"It doesn’t look that way," Asher rasped, the report falling out of his hands and floating slowly to the table.
"He’ll be fine," Jael quickly corrected, eyeing Asher closely to make sure the Alpha wasn’t going to try to blow his own head off again.
"You just need to stay off him for a month, or Brianna is going to send assassins, your way."
"Doc Bri?"Asher clarified.
"Yeah, she was the one to do Caspian’s physical," Jael informed him.
Asher’s eyes grew cold at that, the room dropping a couple of temperatures. "Did she say anything?"
Jael was unfazed in the face of Asher’s turbulent emotions, "She can’t say what she doesn’t know."
Asher backed off at that, dropping his head in his hands and messing up his hair. "Right."
"You know you have to tell him right?" Jael shot at Asher, "He deserves answers."
"Right," Asher repeated, his voice less certain. "But that’ll be after my business trip."
Jael slowly looked at the Alpha, disbelief painting his features. "You’re fucking running away."
"I just need a fucking moment okay?" Asher cursed.
He couldn’t trust himself to be around Caspian, just thinking of all he had done to him made terror coalesce in his veins.
"How long?" Jael asked cryptically.
Asher was lost in thought so he didn’t understand, cocking a brow. "How long, what?"
"Is your business trip?" The Beta completed flatly, knowing that Asher was lying about that, badly.
"A couple days," Asher said with shifty eyes.
Jael knew he was lying again but he didn’t push, Asher had looked a little eager to eat a bullet after reading the medical report, maybe some distance was best...
For the both of them.
He remembered all too well what had happened the last time Asher had avoided Caspian, that was right, he flew off the fucking rails.
So he would give him two days tops before he came running back.
"Don’t do anything fucking stupid," He scolded the Alpha in advance, "And keep your fucking phone on you." He tagged on.
Asher didn’t even look like he was listening, a look of despair on his face, one that made Jael’s chest sting.
Once again, he considered calling Gage over, he would have a better solution than either of them.
Chalk it up to experience.
"The men can handle things without us, and if it’s dire, have them call me," Jael said as he rose to his feet.
He wasn’t too eager to keep Asher company, not when the Alpha reeked of misery.
Asher knew how to find him if he needed him, for now, he was going back to the mansion, to keep his promise to Caspian.
He left reluctantly even then, worried that he would come back to find Asher black-out drunk in his penthouse again.
Jael put his glasses back on his face as he stepped out of the club, heading for his car.
He drove back to the mansion with the windows wound down, which was something he very rarely did.
But it was a cloudy day, and there was a cool breeze so he had every reason to.
It also felt like he was trapped inside the car with his thoughts, they were all dreary.
He would most likely be back at work the next day, sitting and stewing just wasn’t for him.
He ditched the sunglasses in the car before stepping out, walking into the mansion, and walking right to check up on Caspian.
He had immediately picked up on the fact that the Omega wasn’t doing great the first time he saw him, but he hadn’t expected the outcome to be much much worse.
Jael knocked lightly on the door, and when he didn’t hear a response, he gingerly peeked in, expecting to find Caspian fast asleep.
He didn’t at all predict that he would find the bed slept in but empty, not a single trace of the Omega in the room.
A quick phone call had him hurrying to the kitchen. The maids had pointed him there, saying that Caspian was in the kitchen.
Now why the hell would he be in there?
"Jael!" Caspian exclaimed in surprise when he saw him.
Jael had a hard time keeping a straight face at the sight in front of him.
Caspian was in a pink apron, intently watching one of the chefs teach him to make what looked like... tea?
Trying to feign upset was a lost cause but he tried anyway, "Shouldn’t you be asleep?"
Caspian looked away with guilt in his eyes, he couldn’t sleep, his thoughts wouldn’t give him a break.
He expected Jael to be in his room as well so he had snuck down to the kitchen, knowing that the Beta wouldn’t come to check on him anytime soon.
"I couldn’t sleep so I wanted to try drinking some tea." He made up an excuse.
It was clear Jael wasn’t buying it, the Beta silently pointing him to his room like a school teacher.
Caspian slowly trudged out of the kitchen, pouting the entire way there.
"I need you all to keep him out of the kitchen," He poured the full might of his scolding on the cooking staff.
"Caspian is on prescribed bed rest, and I want it to remain that way."
The staff looked shaken, they hadn’t exactly been eager to let the boss’ lover do their jobs but he had been so eager and so polite.
They were quick to agree, happy to have a proper reason to keep the pretty male Omega out of the kitchen.
Jael went after Caspian after laying into the staff, arranging for them to make the tea and bring it down to Caspian.
He knocked quietly and waited for a response before walking in, pleased to find Caspian under the covers.
His approval fell away when he got close enough to see the Omega’s damp, pale skin, his breath shaky.
